"Kite..." Aurora said, about to collapse on the ground from pure exhaustion. She gulped in much needed breaths of fresh air, the tinge of coppery, metallic blood flooding her mouth. It wasn't just her, either, everyone around them had multiple wounds, and was releasing the scent of fear and blood into the air. She hacked for a moment, her body convulsing, and coughed up blood. "Kite... He is hurt, really bad. There was water in his lungs, and.... Oh, Kite it's my fault. I almost let him drown." She hung her head, her voice becoming weak and insignificant. She did her best to take the sadness from her voice, and replace it with strength, but the result was a cracking and fatigued response "Kite, if you use your... 'Ability', you would be to weak to help anyone else. Try to heal him as natural as you can... Just hurry!"

Aurora didn't know why this loner meant much to her, but she had gotten some sort of emotional attachment, as if he was her responsibility.

She picked up one of the dead birds that she had taken from the cave, and said "This is what we are up against." It had shiny, unnatural plating on its body that took the place of feathers. It's odd, beady eyes were red, but now they had gone dark. It's wings were far to long, with sharp edges almost like blades. The beak was also too long, and too sharp. The plume on it's head was more of a short, stubby pole with a bulbous end. It's talons were ghastly, and Aurora didn't think any animal was capable of having weapons of such destruction. They were long, and as sharp as anything she'd ever seen. She felt the pain just looking at this unnatural anomaly. Then she realized she wasn't imagining the pain, just noticing it. She glanced at her wounds, and saw that they were partially closed, but still bleeding steadily.

She felt like fainting again, but she looked at Manga and shook the thought from her mind. She gritted her teeth and tried to stand stronger than ever. Oh... I can't do this. She thought, her knees wobbling and her head spinning. She stared at Kite and whimpered slightly as if to say: 'Me next, please!'

In summer I can taste the salt in the sea,
There's a k i t e blowing out of control on a breeze...

Kite looked the loner over quickly, then turned to Aurora. For a moment, his face broke down, showing the pain and stress overwhelming him, but he quickly disguised it again, returning it to it's usual calm state. "Aurora, I know... I'll do everything I can... It wasn't... Your fault." He bustled back over to the male, pressing his tongue to a couple of the wounds, trying to stop the bleeding. "I can't use my power... I've already healed someone's... Broken bone." He quivered, gritting his teeth. "Aurora... I'm going as fast as I can. If you... Hadn't noticed, at the moment... I am the only healer trying to sort out all the injured wolves... Healers are not... Magical... Despite popular belief." The sudden outburst shocked even Kite, who had been used to him mild-mannered, unruffled attitude. But he was stressed weak, and bleeding profusely, and he really didn't have time to keep up his charade right now.

Still licking at the wounds, Kite cast a glance at the bird she was holding. "I know... I've seen them. Leave it here... I can check for poison when I'm... Finished." Dropping his gaze back to the loner, he remembered the berry paste back in the clearing. Closing his eyes for a moment, the wolf sat back, wondering what to do. If he left the wolf, there was every chance that either Kite would collapse on the way there, or the loner would die while he was gone. But could Aurora still walk? "Could you... Go to the clearing? There is a... Paste... That will stop... The bleeding." Pain and confusion flickered across his face again, but he masked it, returning to the task of slowing the blood flow. If she couldn't move, he would have to leave her with him while Kite fetched what he needed. Hearing her whimper, he paused for a moment, gazing at her. "I know it hurts... I'll stop it soon... Don't worry." He smiled faintly, then lowered his head back down to the blood-soaked wolf beneath him, hoping that his licking would at least wake him up, if nothing else.

Aurora was startled by Kite's sharp-tongued retort, but only for a moment. She knew the stress that he was up against. She knew the stress that all of them were up against. She looked down at her comrade, and nodded. She'd do anything for Manga at this point, after what had happened in the cavern. She had no idea that he would nearly drown... She dropped the bird that she was examining, and said "Yes, I'll get the paste. I'll be fine, and I know... I know you're working as fast as you can. I'm sorry, and if you overwork yourself, then you'll be no help to anyone else." If he needed to pace himself, by all means. She looked around and confirmed her worry that there was no other healers.

Without another word, she ran towards the clearing that Kite was speaking of. Of course there were multiple clearings in their territory, but this particular clearing was known by all of the wolves in the pack. It was not only larger than all of the other clearings, but it is where the healers harvested some of their medicinal herbs. She hoped that either Kry or Ocean would be there, but she didn't get her hopes up. She hadn't seen either of those two since the day the loners had set foot on their territory. She rolled her eyes and said Maybe if I had just stayed at the pack, I'd be better prepared to fend off these 'birds'.

Suddenly, her eyes grew wide with fear as she neared the clearing. Not only had she left the camp that day, but Fabian! Where was her leader now? Dead? Picked to pieces by the abominations that we call birds? That wasn't even the worst thing she could imagine. As much as she wanted to get the berry paste for Manga, she was torn. Her obligation obviously laid with her leader, but she had made a promise. Would she break it now? Her thoughts were stopped short by a horrible screeching up ahead, and she already knew what that meant. I'm not ready for another fight. She whimpered, and the inevitable attack was obvious. She forced herself to run forward, the urgency of the situation still burned into her mind.

Aurora broke through the trees, into the clearing. She gasped for breath, looking around for the berries. She was confused, to say the least. Panic caused her to jump around, filled with anxiety. She cursed herself for not asking Kite what exactly it looked like. Is it berries? Or is it already a paste? She was no healer, but when she found a cluster of berries freshly crushed on a leaf, she realized that the healers probably crushed this earlier and left it here before the attack. She folded the leaf and carried it in her mouth, careful not to digest the too-sweet smelling berry paste. She booked it out of there, barreling back into the cover of the trees.

In summer I can taste the salt in the sea,
There's a k i t e blowing out of control on a breeze...

Kite sat up, eyeing the bird warily as Aurora turned and wheeled away into the trees. "Thank you..." He called after her, shifting himself closer the bird. There wasn't much more he could do to help the loner until she brought back the paste. You left Amara alone in the clearing... Maybe you should be looking after her, instead of a loner you don't even know. But he shook the thought away, stretching forwards to touch the bird with his nose. Amara isn't bleeding any more, this loner is. And anyway, he had always vowed to help any wolf, regardless of whether they were in the pack or not. He couldn't go back on that now. The bird felt cold to his nose, and he jerked away, remembering the cruel, sharp feathers that could slice through flesh with ease. But how? Moving closer to it again, Kite sniffed it, but couldn't pick up any traces of poison. Happy that they weren't going to die from poisoning, he shuffled back to sit beside the loner, waiting patiently for Aurora to return with the paste.

Hearing a screeching in the direction that Aurora had gone, Kite leapt to his paws, stepping forwards to stand between the fallen loner and the sound. Please don't let it find us! Anxiously, he began to pace back and forth, his tail swishing nervously. They weren't safe here. The birds would be able to see them easily, and they were open to attack on all sides. Quickly, he whirled round, and began poking the loner's muzzle with his nose. "Wake up... Don't sleep... We need... To be ready."
I wonder what will happen to you,
You wonder what has happened to me.

Kite steadily pounded more and more berries and leaves, until he had enough paste to heal quite a few wolves. Then he sat back, concentrating on steadying his breathing. Hearing a soft cough, he glanced round, spotting Amara with one eye open. He smiled broadly, padding over to sit next to her. "Yes... it's me. I'm quite... Alright... But its not me we should be... Worrying about. How... Do you feel?" Curling his tail around himself, Kite stole another look around the clearing, hearing the whirring of the birds' wings nearby along with the sound of voices. He hoped that they were alright. Turning back to Amara, he noted how weak she looked. "Can you eat? Take one... Of these." Nosing a small strip of dried meat towards her - which he had saved, dried, and soaked in watered down berry juice to keep it from rotting - the young wolf watched her with concern. If only they were back at the camp, it would be easier to treat her - and the rest - in the healer's cave. But they would have to make do here.
I wonder what will happen to you,
You wonder what has happened to me.

Even though,
You were never there for me,

Amara lifted her head all the way, opening her eyes. She smiled wryly up at him, though it was a weak smile. "I feel fine." She paused, looking him over. "Kite." She said, as if pondering the word, feeling what it felt like in her mouth. She slowly ate the food. She felt guilty eating when others could eat it, others worse wounded than her. "Kite. One day you're going to starve youself because of a sick patient who needed to eat a lot." It didn't make much sense out loud, but it had made plenty in her head. Amara could feel her skin prickling as the whirring of birds caught her ears. She shivered, at the same time that Kite turned around and dove away. She dropped her head down. That constant movement was going to make him lose to much blood. When he got back, she was going to see to him. She looked at the paste and felt a flood of exhaustion.

I'll be here for you.
Don't worry

I
I know I'm pretty bad,
That I've been rather petty

Shadow moved towards where a healer appeared to be. He could smell dried meat, and just that small scent made his mouth flood with red saliva. Blood still poured lightly from wounds in his mouth, and the continual taste made him even more hungry. His hunger and that meager supply rung a bell within him. The camp pile wasn't far away. He could go gather food, and some of it he could eat! Inside him, a little bit of pleasure squirmed at thethought of helping these wolves. Shadow turned, feline tail swishing and twitching with excitement. He bounded off, hurling himself into the dangers of the forest, where the birds stayed. One immediately swooped from the branches, but Shadow continued to run. He would get the food. The smell hit him.

The black male sped up, bursting into the camp and plowing towards the kill pile. The stinging blows of the bird were forgotten as he saw the food. Droll dropped from his lips. But he didn't stop to eat. Couldn't. He grabbed as much as he could carry; two squirrels and a rabbit. He whirled around, getting a vicious beak slash across his right eye. He let out a muffled yelp, clenching his teeth down on the prey. Blood flooded his right-side vision, and pain spiked through his skull. Shadow threw himself forward, back the way he had come.

But the truth is,
I hate to let them live.

-Huster-
He said " Sparrow go." He looked her in the eye and licked her cheek and nudged her out of the birds path and he growled and snapped. Fur and and feathers flying in the cloud of dust and the screams of birds and Wolf could be heard. Huster Talons and teeth were more than a match for the birds beaks, but on the upper hand the birds would gang up. Their was about five left and with Huster on edge and the wild blood firey wolf and tore into those birds like a rabited raccoon after a snake, he growled and as the dust settle Huster has won the battle he spit a bird out of his mouth and said " Let's get moving." He looked at Sparrow to see which way she wanted to go.

"Huster!" Arissa said to the other wolf. "You and Sparrow should go see Kite. He's trying to treat everone's wounds, and it would be easiest to defend ourselves in a group. It doesn't matter if either of you need treatment--The sooner the pack is together, the sooner we can beat these birds. If you'd like to help, you can round up the rest of the pack."

Sparrow

"Can you lead us to Kite? I can't smell anything with these birds around us." Sparrow murmured, panting. She looked over at Huster with wide, worried eyes. "I'm more concerned about Huster then myself." She whispered to her packmate. "Come on. We need to get moving." She whinned, agitated. She didn't when birds would be coming down from the sky next.
Hello there. :) I'm incredibly sorry for my disappearence from this website, but I have had NOOOO time to do things like this. XD I've been so busy. But some of my activities will slow down come Winter, so I think I'll be able to come back. But there's one problem. This account is REALLY cluttered. :/ I hate having 43 pages of pointless/dead roleplays and things. And I've let it sit inactive for a while, so it is kind of pointless. I'm hopefully going to have the same username, so come friend me! :"D

Shatter's eyes widened as a bird swooped towards her, cruelly curved beak opening, getting ready to take a bite out of her. She ducked out of the way just in time, able to feel the whoosh of air as it skimmed past her fur. She could feel warmth leaking down her shoulder, but from all the blood that mingled with the air, she was far from the worst injured. The bird came back at her, horrible talons outstretched, but because she did not turn around, she was unable to avoid it as it slashed a nasty cut along her flank. Though she showed no pain on her face, she gritted her teeth as fire erupted.

The moon, she thought desperately. The moon. She gazed up at it, letting its cool balmy light seep into her and ease her conscience. Her attention, however, was diverted as the bird came diving at her again, aiming for her eyes. She caught it in her mouth, ignoring the cuts as its metal feathers sliced through her gum, and hurled it to the ground as she had done before. It was momentarily stunned, but she was aware that it would not remain so for a long time. Thinking quickly, she seized a rock and brought it down upon the bird's throat. It fluttered its wings in protest, but was too weak to get up. Not wanting to waste time finishing it off, she abandoned it, hoping that it would die on its own. "Good riddance," she muttered, running her tongue gingerly over the wounds the bird's feathers had inflicted upon her mouth. Perhaps the bleeding would not be too bad.

manga ;;

The next sensation that Manga had felt was poking and prodding upon his nose. It more bothered him than ecnouraged him really, but the annoyance was more than enough to force his sore muscles to make him move.

He was slightly disoriented as he scrabbled to his feet; he supposed he had fallen unconscious again when he'd forced himself to slide off of Aurora's back, but now he felt fully conscious for the first time today after the birds had attacked. "What the, what happened? Who're you?" he said to the new wolf [Kite], and arched his back with a hiss. He wasn't sure who this wolf was, and his next concern, where was Aurora? He was thrown off from his (unstable) train of thought, however, when another screech pierced the air and he looked wildly around them.

Manga happened to look down at Kite's feet and saw a bunch of herbs upon a sack of what seemed like the hide of some animal; looking upon himself, he noticed that he was not bleeding as much, and upon his paw was a paste that was covering a wound previously. Putting two-and-two together, Manga straightened up immediately, uttered an apologetic, "Oh,", and ducked away a bit further. Usually he gave thanks quite flippantly, like a word that didn't matter to him. How ironic that now that it did, he didn't even mention anything.

As he moved backwards, he backed into Aurora; jumping and turning around quickly, he smiled when he saw her, his tail swishing. "Oh, there you are!" he said brightly, as though they had separated ways and just happened to come upon each other again.
