WORMS: A major death in a horse population. It results in eating poluted grass or drinking polited water.
EQUINE INFECTIOUSE ANEMA: Equine Infectiouse Anema (EIA) is a highly contagiouse and potentially fatle viral disease for equiens. EIAV is a retrovirus, containing genetic RNA material, which it uses to produce DNA.This DNA is then incorperated into the horse's genome. It's really a cause of goodbye horse. When horses are exposed to EIAV, many may develop sever symptoms and die in 2-3 weeks. The initial fever may last less than 24 hours.
The Transmission of EIAV is from horse flies and deer flies which machanically transmit EIAV. Insect transsmition of EIAV is dependent on the number and habits of insects, the density of the horses population, te number of times the insect bites the same and other horses, the amount of blood transfered and the virus.
Ways of telling if your horse has this virus is if: 1.) Fever for an indeterminate period until the onset of another episode.
2.) Peticheal hemorrhages-Minute blood-colored spots appear on the mucous membranes.
3.) Depression-The horse appears more or less dejected(head hangs low)and generally listless
Equine Influenza:Equine Influenza is an acute resparatory of horses worldwide. Equine Influenza is repressented by 2 subtypes:1/Influenza A/Equine 2 and 2/virus(H3 N8) which is a most important cause of respiratory in horses and Influenza A/equine 1 virus(H 7 N 7). Others are:A/equine/Miami/1/63 isolate are currently circulating in horse populations.
Diagnosis:poor performance, a hacking dry cough,depression,anorexia,fever, nasal discharge,enlarged and tender submandibular and retropharyngeal lymph nodes are notable symptoms
Potomac Horse Fever:Afected horses might develop diarrhea, fever and usually die uness treated promply with tetracycline or similar antibiotics. The infected horse will go off of its feed and develop a fever. Low blood pressure and low blood counts develop. Intracellular bacteria will be seen in Giemsa blood smears. Sever Diarrhea and painful colic may ensue. The horse may become severley dehydrated requering IV fluids. It may founder. Infected mares may abort with inflammation of the placenta. Many horses test seroposotive without showing any sings of symptoms.
Sarcocystosis:All mammals have Sarcocystis species or something close to the name equine protozoal myeloencephalitis is absurd. These coccidian genera of the Phylum Apicompleta are Besnotia, Cystasospora, Frenkelia Hammondia, Neospora, Sarcocystis and Toxoplasma. Horses are simply hosts like many other mammals. Infections in raccoons or possums need not be different. Schizonts and Merozites, but no Sarcocysts, are found in horses. Similar Histopathologic Lesions of S.Neurona are seen in cats, mink, raccoons, skunks and so on.
Diagnosis: Ataxia and incoordination can be present in one limb or all of the other limbs. Damage to lower motor neurons of the spinal cord or brainstem can result in muscle atrophy. Obscure lamness may be the only abnormality. Signs of crainal nerve dysfunction may be present in over 10% of EPM cases, including atrophy of the temporal masseter muscles, atrophy of the tounge, vestibular signs, facial nerve paralysis, laryngeal hemiplegia, and dysphagia.
PREDATORS:
Wolves: A threat to horses and foals, they mostly strike at night but will occasionally come out during the day, expecially when mares are foaling.
Mountian Lions: Extremely dangerouse to both adult horse and baby, can hide in the trees but prefer canyons and high rocky places.
Adders:Highly venemouse snakes that will swell up and destroy tissue and even kill.
Coyotes: Not much of a threat but can be a hassel and if not watched can become deadly killers.
TERAINS:
FOREST::Hosts most of the deadly predators and not a place to sleep at night or at all. Many places for a horse to fall and break a leg or get seriously injured.
CANYONS PASS::A rocky trail surounded by steep rocky walls. Hosts the mountian lions home and has a lot of falling rocks that could kill a horse if not carefull enough.
GRASS PLAINS::Lots of fresh grass to eat and restour a horses strength on the journey to the birthing grounds, but be careful, it may look safe but it can house Adders, Coyotes, Mountian Lions and wolves, eat but keep on gurard.
FOALING GROUNDS:: The place where the herds travel to to have their mares foal, but this is also the place that has the bloodiest histroy as well.

•Ears
◦Ears Forward
This is an alert and attentive sign, often showing happiness.
◦Ears To The Side
This can show that the horse is relaxed. If the horse is being ridden and their ears are to the side then it shows that the horse is concentrating and relaxed. If the horse is stood still with its neck mid to low in height and with eyes half closed, resting a hind foot with the ears to the side then it shows that the horse is just tired, relaxed and resting.
◦One Ear Back
This is a sign that the horse is listening.
◦Ears Mobile
Horse is alert and can hear something of interest, the ears will move around often accompanied by a high neck carriage, bright eyes.
◦Ears Flat Back
This is a sign of anger and is often accompanied with swishing tail and kicking out by either one or both hind legs.
•Eyes
◦Eyes Open And Bright
Is a sign of an alert horse who is taking in their surroundings.
◦Eyes Half Shut
Is a sign that the horse is tired or dozing. Extra signs of this would be ears to the side with head mid to low and resting a hind leg and with a droopy bottom lip.
◦Eyes Shut
Is a sign hat your horse is asleep.
◦One Eye Shut
This usually indicates that the horse has a medical issue with the closed eye, so look to see if the eye is weeping or has any discharge and seek veterinary advice.
•Teeth
◦If the horse has bitten either you or another horse and it has been accompanied with the horse having its ears flat back, a back leg kicking out at you and/or a swishing tail, then it is a sign of aggression.
◦Horses also bite each other and you if they are grooming each other for pleasure and social interaction, if this is the case then the horse will have their ears either forward or to the side with a relaxed tail and happy expression.

◦Upper Lip Curl
When horses curl up their upper lip it is known as the 'flehmen technique', and horses do this when they are aware of a scent in the air; for example a stallion will do this when he is aware of a mares hormone scent when she is in season.
•Chin
◦Droopy
The horses chin and lower lip will often go droopy when they are very sleepy, content or relaxed. Other signs include resting a hind leg, ears to the side and head carriage mid to low in height.
•Nostrils
◦Snorting
Horses will make a snorting noise with their nostrils when they are unsure or frightened of something.
•Head And Neck Carriage
◦Head High is often a healthy sign of an alert and curious horse and is often accompanied with alert ears, bright eyes and an alert focused expression.
◦Head Low can either be a sign of submission, depression or simply tiredness.
◦Neck turning to the side and looking at their flanks can be a sign of discomfort, this can be either due to a fly on the horses side or a more serious upset such as colic in which case other symptoms will also be visible.
•Back
◦Back Raised
Raised and tight is a sign of discomfort, for example due to a saddle or sore in that area.
•Tail
◦Tail raised high in the air is usually accompanied with a high neck carriage, a bright happy and alert expression. Horses are often seen with high tails when playing in the field.
◦Tail clamped flat down is a sign of discomfort for example if a fly is under the dock of the horse. o Tail swishing is an aggressive warning sign and can also used as a sign of discomfort. Other accompanying symptoms to look out for are ears flat back and kicking out with one or both back legs.
•Back Legs
◦One leg kicking out is an aggressive warning sign.
◦Both legs kicking out shows aggression.
•Forelegs
◦Pawing the ground can be a sign of impatience, hunger and can also be a symptom of colic which will have other symptoms visible. o
◦Stamping the ground is a sign of impatience and can also be due to discomfort caused by for example a cut or flies on the leg.
◦Resting one foreleg is a sign of discomfort in that limb.
