"Silverstar?" called a voice from within the den. Emerging from a darker part of the den, a slender, pale gold figure padded out, her rare violet eyes gleaming. "My my my, this is a surprise. What brings you to my humble abode?" she asked in a flirty purr as she circled around the Tom.

"Uh, no one. Er, I guess someone could go with us.." he meowed, shaking his head. He couldn't think straight with no sleep, but it's not like he could really do anything about it. He went along with too many patrols last night, that and a random nightmare that never seemed to end would prevent any cat from sleeping soundly.

Sitting up straight after he gulped down a lark, Wildfire glanced around and noticed Blackpaw and Jadeflower bump into each other. He perked his ears as he heard his name along with the word 'patrol'. Thank StarClan, I'm getting out of here, even if it's for a brief moment.

His gaze followed Specklewing as she joined him, and he stared, transfixed for a moment. No. Having a soft spot for pretty she-cats, he pushed his thoughts away and forced a cheerful smile. "I was, uh, just coming to see how you were doing. No messages from StarClan?" Sitting down, he curled his tail over his paws, briefly wondering where Amberpaw was.

"Okay ... Just us then." She didn't think he was really fit for a patrol, but pushed the thought away. Koiflare was the deputy. He had a duty to do. "Border or hunting?" Arching an eyebrow delicately, she wondered how she'd grown so distant from the tom. They used to be very close, as apprentices.

She bounded over to Wildfire, eyes lighting up. "Hiya. I guess we're patrolling together." A coy smile playing on her lips, she glanced over her shoulder at Blackpaw, who caught up, panting slightly. "You ready to leave?"

Specklewing sighed and sat down across from the Tom, her tail curled neatly over her small paws. Great, I thought I had him for a second. Oh well, there's always another time. She thought, but showed no signs of it in her expression. "Messages huh? Can't say I have had any recently."

Koiflare stared blankly at Flashcloud as he blinked away more sleep and tried to remember what patrol they were going to be doing. "Uh, hunting." he meowed as he shook his head. Images from the nightmare he had last night kept coming back to him as he fought to stay awake. I can't go back to sleep now...it might come back...

The bulky Tom nodded, "Sure, let's go." he meowed as he stood up. "What sort of patrol are we doing? A border?" he asked over his shoulder as he began to pad out of camp.

"Well, that's too bad." Pausing, he glanced around the den, uncertain of what to say next. He didn't converse with the Medicine Cat very often, and her flirty advances had distracted him. It was forbidden for starters, and leaders didn't take mates very often. Focusing his steely blue gaze on her, he continued, with a frustrated twitch of his whiskers. "Just come and find me if you do receive any signs. StarClan have been silent for some time now." Rising to his paws, he dipped his head respectfully, then turned to leave the den, white tail-tip lazily trailing behind him as he moved.

"Are you sure we should be doing this?" she asked, rising to her paws, golden pelt shimmering in the sunlight. "I mean, you look as if you're about to fall asleep any moment. I think you should take it easy today. I think the Clan can manage without their deputy for a while, and I'm pretty sure Silverstar wants a focused, attentive warrior, not one who's exhausted. But hey, what do I know? I'm no Medicine Cat." Flashcloud muttered harshly, showing concern in her own feisty way. "Let's go. And try to keep up." Fur flushing slightly at her overly-rude comment, she turned and broke into a steady walk, leaving camp without a backward glance, though her mind was spinning. I'm on a patrol. With Koiflare. Alone. Her heartbeat sped up slightly, though mostly from nerves.

"Pretty much." she replied, with a casual shrug. "The others are hunting, so." Falling into silence, she glanced at the apprentice besides her. Blackpaw padded between the two warriors, occasionally doing a double shuffle to keep up with their long stride. Her gaze darted about the forest and she lifted her chin, scenting the air occasionally. The sounds of prey surrounded her, but she took no notice. Shooting a glance at Wildfire, she paused uncertainly. "Nice day, isn't it?" she began lamely, trying to keep the conversation going.

Specklewing watched as her leader padded out of her den. Tough one, he is. No need to worry, though. He'll come back, they always do. She thought as a mischievous glint flickered in her violet eyes. Silently, she slunk back into her den, going to tend to her various amounts of herbs that she had stacked in an organized manner. Now where is Amberpaw? I need her to fetch more tansy for me.

Ducking slight at her harsh comment, Koiflare sighed and followed after her. His paw steps seemed to drag on the ground as he walked, and images around him merged into a blur of colors and shapes. Maybe I should talk to Specklewing and Amberpaw once we get back.. He thought with a shake of his head. Sighing, he began to jog a bit faster to keep up with the she-cat in front of him.

With a flicker of his amber eyes, Wildfire shrugged, "I suppose. There probably won't be any trouble on our patrol, so it should be an easy run." he meowed. Turning his head back to face forward, the ginger tabby perked his ears as the sounds of the forest surrounded them. Seems like a good day to hunt. I don't know why Koiflare chose for himself to hunt rather than us. I mean, he's in a horrid condition at the moment. Talk about a reliable deputy. He thought with a roll of his eyes.

{What if Koiflare was receiving messages from StarClan instead of Specklewing? o3o And he can tell Amberpaw about it, since he doesn't want Specklewing to know.}

Gazing around the camp, he trotted over to the fresh kill pile and selected a plump vole. Padding over to a sunny spot, he stretched out and began to eat the prey. I'd better take Midnightpaw out to train once I'm finished. And maybe a couple of other apprentices too. Smiling at the thought, he found himself watching the entrance of the Medicine Cat's den. Uncertain what to think, he narrowed his eyes. Speckledwing. Huh. She sure leaves a lasting impression. Grimacing, he licked his chops before rising to his paws and making his way over to the apprentice's den. "Midnightpaw?" He called, blinking in the darkness of the den.

The pretty she-cat dropped back to walk besides Koiflare, a distinctly uncomfortable expression on her face. "Um. I'm sorry about earlier." she meowed slowly, not quite used to apologizing. She just didn't know how to act around toms - around any cat. Koiflare used to understand. I remember our conversations. He used to understand how I felt. I wonder if he still does. But it's not like we're friends ... Sort of. Ugh. Toms are so confusing. Biting her lip, she studied her paws as they walked, forgetting that she was supposed to be hunting.

"Yup. I doubt Flashcloud and Koiflare will bring back much, so why don't we hunt on the way back?" she suggested, tail swishing happily. "It can't hurt." Humming under her breath, she quickened her pace, eager to reach the border. It's nice, having the forest all to ourselves. We don't have to worry about any trouble, except the occasional fox or badger. And the loners are pretty friendly. Most of them.

Blinking open her bright blue eyes, a slender, ebony he-cat rose from her warm bed and stretched her legs. Looking over at the entrance, she noticed her mentor. Yes! Maybe he's taking me training! She thought excitedly as she padded out of the den. She dipped her head to her leader, "Morning, Silverstar." she meowed.

Koiflare glanced over at Flashcloud, his green eyes dull with weariness. "It's alright, Flashcloud, it's my fault. I know I shouldn't be out doing any sort of patrols, but I can't sleep and I figured it I wear myself out enough, I'll get some decent sleep." he half lied.

Wildfire nodded. "Sounds like a plan to me. Besides, it's not like we'll get in trouble for hunting a little bit on the way back. We need more food anyways, now that leaf-bare is over." he meowed in his deep voice. Already he could feel his paws tingle at the thought of hunting, be he'd have to hold off for the moment.

{Uh...maybe something bad, since Koiflare was having a nightmare.}

An amused purr escaped him as he moved to let the apprentice out. "You ready to train, or would you like to eat first?" He asked, noticing Tanglepaw and Aspenpaw lazing about. I wonder where their mentors are ...."We can take a few others, if you like." Flexing his claws, he pressed his chest against the ground in a long stretch. "We'll be practising battle tactics today." Sitting up, he smiled warmly at Midnightpaw, pleased to have an intelligent, honest apprentice.

Sighing, she scented the air and turned away from him without a reply. Pricking her ears, she focused on a nearby rustling sound and crouched low, unsheathing her claws. The familiar scent of mice drifted towards her. Must be a few in there. Positioning her weight evenly, she took three silent steps forwards, then bunched her muscles and sprang. A triumphant purr escaped her as she padded back to Koiflare with two plump mice dangling from her jaws.

"Thank StarClan." she agreed softly, coming to a stop once she reached the border. "Do you want to mark the border, or shall I?" Scenting the air, she noticed an unfamiliar scent, from a strange cat. Tom, probably a loner. Eyes narrowing, she glanced at Wildfire. "Do you smell that? Someone's been here!"

{Okay, um, how about some kind of sickness? Or a drought/flood? And, can Jadeflower and Wildfire find my loner? -flails- I forgot his name. -runs to look}

Not even taking a moment to think about it, her stomach answered for her with a loud rumble. Flustering in embarrassment, she giggled lightly, "Guess we can eat first." she mewed with a flick of her tail. "Do you want anything, Silverstar?" she asked as she slowly began to make her way towards the fresh-kill pile.

Koiflare smiled at his old friend, "Great job." he meowed. Maybe we should've gone on a border patrol instead...I don't think I can even hunt. He thought with a grimacing flicker in his eyes. Shaking his head, the tortoiseshell and white Tom glanced around, trying to catch the scent of any more prey in the area. Vole. Falling into the Hunter's Crouch, he moved across the ground, searching for the delicious prey. As he pounced, he just barely caught the vole, but it was just enough to catch it, and kill it with one last blow. Sighing, he picked it up in his jaws and brought it back to Flashcloud.

Wildfire nodded, "Yeah, I smell it." he meowed, glancing around. It's a Tom, that's for sure. Loner or Rogue, I can't really tell. Either way, it doesn't matter. The only thing that does matter, is if it comes down to a fight. He thought, his claws unconsciously unsheathing as the thought crossed his mind.

A soft chuckle escaped him as he heard her stomach rumble. Following Midnightpaw to the fresh kill pile, he sat down and curled his tail over his paws, waiting for her to pick something to eat. "No, thanks. I already ate." {WB for him}

"Thanks." she replied brightly, turning to watch him hunt. Scenting the air, she searched for what he was stalking. Vole. Let's hope he doesn't - A frustrated gasp fell from her lips as he almost lost the prey. ...miss. "Um. Nice save?" Flashcloud meowed weakly, unable to think of anything better to say. It wasn't the neatest catch. Burying her mice, she flicked Koiflare on the nose light-heartedly with her tail-tip as she walked by.

The small rogue tensed as he heard voices in the distance. Unsheathing his claws, he scaled a tree swiftly and crouched on a high branch, sharp gaze scanning the forest floor for the cats who were talking. Warriors. They must know I'm here. It was a foolish mistake, hunting by the border. He should've known they would notice his scent.
