"Just let me explain first," he said, mimicking her angry tone. "Two nights ago I got a call from my mother in Georgia, she said I needed to go down there immediately because my father was in the hospital," he started, running a hand through his short hair."I couldn't find you before I left, and I stormed out in such a hurry I forgot my phone in the tack box. He had a heart attack, but made a recovery so his life wasn't in danger. I came back as soon as I could."

Alex walked back out to the barn. Dixie and jerome in the cabin and the dog door securely locked. she walked over to Adele and untied her "soory girlie...Dixie got sick." she said mounting the anxious mare. She clucked her toungue and steered her towards the trails.

Apollo snorted. walking down the fence, following Alex and Adele, until he could go no farther because of the fence. he flicked his tail and nicker, half rearing.

Adele cranes her neck, nostrils wide as she walked at a brisk pace, looking around her back end to see Apollo. She bobbed her head in an acknowledgement, straining against the bit.
