(Thanks!)
Nunnie sits near the still pool of water near the top of Water Tree. Gilgamesh was called into a meeting early this morning and Nunnie figured she had time to kill before he got out and would give them new assignments. She was ahead on her quota for this week and so she let her mind and feet wander until she found herself at this place. She walks for awhile, simply enjoying the fresh breeze that blows in off the pool, the damp smells of algae and damp wood reaching her nose. Smiling to herself, she sits by the edge of the water and lifts her bulk back onto her hind legs to gaze at her reflection in the pool. The gently rippling surface distorts her greenish figure, blurring the edges making it look as though she almost a part of the water herself. Ah, there you are. She thinks, dropping back down so that her nose is almost touching the water. "I'd never leave you Tarnung..." She imagines the ghostly figure answering her. "I only hide at the bottom, because that is where the water-moss is the softest, and most tender" The reflection shimmers, as another breeze kicks up, marring the surface with ripples. Reflection swims away, flying through the pool like a bird on the wind, faster and faster, heading for the deepest, darkest part of the puddle. Nunnie gets up and starts to walk again, pausing for a moment to nibble some of the moist moss near the shoreline. Her imagination continues to spin and now, in her mind, Nunnie is the reflection, living at the bottom of the water.
Deeper and deeper, I go all the way to the very heart of Water Tree. The light from the sun up above, starts to fade and everything around me goes black. "It is so dark here, how will I ever see?" Suddenly, a blue light dawned next to me and I flew back, surprised. It grew brighter until it formed a neat little ball of light, which seemed strangely familiar. Then I recognized it: a Will-o'-the-wisp! Just like the ones I had seen floating on the pond at night "Will! What are you doing all the way down here?" I asked the glowing thing. "Oh Nunnie, this is where I live." It pulsed as it spoke to me, "I hide down here so the ground rats can't find me." I was surprised, "But why would they want to find you?" "Because, I have secrets only I know and they would force me to tell them." The wisp said, dimming a bit as though with sadness. "Secrets? What kind of secrets?" I asked, becoming very curious. "Oh Nunnie!" Will laughed, "Only you would ask such a question! I'll tell you what, because you are my friend, I will tell you my most hidden and mysterious things. But first, you must bring me three things...
Her thoughts are interrupted when she realizes suddenly that she has walked nearly half way around the pond. Worried, she curls her tail around her and fiddles with the end of it while she gazes up at the sky. Oh no! It's almost midday! I should be back before the meeting is out so I will know if Gilgamesh has any new assignments for me! Nunnie scurries off, back the way she came and towards the other rats. Hurrying herself back to the Tree of Life and the meeting halls in it's branches.
