"Darkness is nothing without light..."
"There is a great change coming..."
"Nothing is reversible..."
"Time slows hearts, kills and revives..."
"Nothing is too soon; everything is too late..."
Whispers of long forgotten cats lingered in the shadows of the cave, curling around Iceflare's paws and drifting lazily past her ear, fainter than a breath of air. Moonlight cascaded down onto the floor, onto the gray she-cat that stood perfectly still in the center of the mysterious room. Slowly, she lifted her eyes up, and almost immediately Iceflare's vision burst into a pyrotechnics display of white sparks, shooting off from the moon and falling toward her.
Not intent on the idea of getting burnt, Iceflare jumped back, hissing, only to bump into something else - the body of another cat. She turned around, about to spit out words of surprise, but stopped dead in her tracks, her heart suddenly feeling light it was going to burst inside her chest.
There, in front of her, stood a cat that was so still it couldn't have been alive - it wasn't even breathing. The cat's dark gray pelt had turned a deep, reddish-brown - the color of the blood that dripped from every tip of the cats fur. It didn't have eyes - instead, it had empty sockets that seemed like they were the essence of nothing, so dark that it seemed like it could swallow you whole. The cat's jaw moved up in down, murmuring words in a raspy, whispering only Iceflare could hear.
"Water... fire... collide... death... life... hope... despair... water... fire... collide-"
Iceflare jumped out of her nest, yowling in terror, her fur standing on end but plastered to her body like she had just dived into a pool of water. Her breath came in ragged gasps and her eyes stared at the ground, wide and unseeing as her trembling, feeble legs attempted to support her body from collapsing.
What was that... she thought fearfully. The dream (or rather, nightmare) had no real direction, and left her with no clear message. It wasn't a sign sent from Starclan, she knew that much - was she going crazy? No, she had been fine before she dozed off!
Suddenly embarrassingly aware of the other cats in the camp, she attempted to calm her breathing, though it wouldn't stop pushing against her throat, as if to say: I want out! Iceflare shut her eyes tightly, sucked in another deep breath, and without another forethought pelted through the warriors den and out of the camp, not knowing where she was going, only hoping it would be far enough to keep the terrible dream away.
Perhaps I just need a break...
