SmokeyEye

SmokeyEye's gaze grew bright as ThornClaw appeared, and she ran up to him, her tail straight up in delight. "Thornclaw!" She said cheerfully, listening to what he had to say. As he spoke, her tail dropped, and her eyes lost their splendor and became worried. She dipped her head to her friend. "Thank you, Thornclaw. I will tell SoulStar." She said, wishing he could stay longer, but knew that he couldn't. So, she waved her tail in farewell, as she watched his image fade.

Eaglepaw

He stumbled through the undergrowth, his eyes locked on the bright blue color of the butterfly's wings. He ran past a bramble thicket, skidding to a halt as he saw Cherrypaw training with SoulStar. "Oh, sorry..." He mumbled, knowing he would be punished for being out of camp witout permission.

Smiling at Eaglepaw, Soulstar asked calmly, "Does Smokeyeye know you were outside of camp?" His voice was stern, but gentle, and his eyes were not at all angry. "If she didn't know, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to punish you. You know that, don't you, Eaglepaw?" Soulstar made a fantastic leap and snagged the butterfly on his claw. He laid the butterfly on the ground in front of Eaglepaw. "I believe this is yours," he said, amusement in his rough, deep voice.

Cherrypaw stumbled a little and saw Soulstar was speaking to Eaglepaw. She did the front paw blow again,pawing Soulstar on his side softly,so she wouldn't hurt her mentor.

"Cheater," Soulstar purred, his voice light and amused. "Cherrypaw, grab something to eat and take a break while I sort out this situation with Eaglepaw."

EaglePaw

His eyes glowed as he saw his leader snag the butterfly, but were also filled with shame. "No, SoulStar, SmokeyEye didn't know..." He said quietly, anticipating his punishement.

"Well, Eaglepaw, I think you must tell Smokeyeye that you are sorry for not paying attention to her and for disobeying the rules. You will hunt until sunset. You may bring others to hunt with you, but that does not give you the right to fool around, understand?" Soulstar knew that it wasn't really a punishment, just something to do because he could tell that the young tom was a little bored.

"Okay,Soulstar," Cherrypaw purred,with her green eyes bright. She padded away,but looked at Eaglepaw. Cherrypaw hoped he wouldn't get into that much trouble.

Soulstar dipped his head to Cherrypaw as she left and he looked at Eaglepaw. "I let you off easy this time, Eaglepaw. Remember to listen to the rules, the warrior code, and your mentor. It might keep you alive one day." His serious tone lightened as he said, "Go with Cherrypaw to get something to eat before your hunting expedition. You'll need the strength."

Eaglepaw

He nodded. "I'll do that, SoulStar. I'm sorry." He headed back towards camp, going to apologize to SmokeyEye right away. Then turned back as he heard SoulStar's command to go with Cherrypaw, and his eyes brightened. "Okay, thanks you SoulStar. It won't happen again." He walked over to Cherrypaw, his tail straight up in the air. "Hi Cherrypaw." He said to the she-cat.

Aspenleaf smiled at Smokeyeye and padded to the fresh-kill pile. She was feeling very hungry and grabbed a mouse for herself. She dipped her head to Cherrypaw and Eaglepaw and thought about the coming drought. She had felt it for herself, the heat wave. It was getting warmer and warmer, and the plants were starting to droop a little from the intense heat and no rain.
