The day was brighter than usual, the clouds were very soft and lazily floated in the sky. A soft powder falling from the skies very lazily. You could see all the glaciers and the ice through it, usually you could not see past your nose and the sky was dark. Spring was here, which offered nicer weather. But the best weather was in the summer when the sun was bright and snow was sometimes little. Which just left the ice and what snow was left on the ground. The sun was blue past those light gray clouds, the beams of the sun beating down and warming the fur of the wolf that walked across the snow-covered ice.
His red tipped paws shuffled the deep snow that reached halfway up his legs. He didn’t bother leaping through it like most, finding it expended energy. Plus, he was on a hunt for himself. Such weather was best for hunting. And he had not eaten in the past few days. His shaggy fur was almost perfectly groomed, but the odd thing was the pattern. The main colors were a dark grey and a crimson red, which was odd for most artic wolves. And the bright white blotches over his coat and the white that occupied his mane was almost perfectly coordinated. His blue eyes gazed at his surroundings as he slowly stalked low to the snow. His white tipped ears and white mane hiding him fairly good in the snow.
He could smell it… A polar bear! Perfect for eating latter if it was big enough. But if it was too big, then he would have to find something else. He was no idiot. Orphius’s nostrils flared gently as he took in the smell, his nose covered in white snow. He stalked closer to the moving white thing not too far away. He couldn’t tell the size just yet. It seemed like a cub from here. He slowly moved closer, trying to be very quiet. But it was hard when struggling through this deep snow, which hindered his maneuverability.
As soon as Orphius got close, he pounced out of the snow, his mane bristling in the wind of the short jump and his tail flowing. He tackled the animal, going for the scruff as the two battled in the snow. Turned out, it wasn’t a cub! It’s claws swiped at him and he was tossed into the snow, the growl of the bear coming to his ears. He wiggled in the snow and got up, pouncing out of the hole and swiftly retreating. He leapt through the snow rather gracefully, almost running through it. As soon as he got to some flatter land, he stopped and looked back. Some bad luck… He didn’t really have a place of his own to go back to- he usually slept in the snow anyways. Orphius stared across the frozen tundra in hopes to see a rabbit or something deciding to come out into the warmer air.
