The Exhibition Harvest.
Some refer to this “holiday” as a death day, though no one actually knows where those who disappear go to.


Every year for as long as anyone can remember, this day has been exhibited at both party’s hands; the leopard seals and the penguins. Each year penguins of all subspecies, ages, genders and sizes gather together, the two colonies preparing to attempt out running the leopard seal’s rather heavy skills in hunting them. When the first penguin dives into the water, the Exhibition Harvest has begun.

Although no penguin knows where the ones captured disappear to, they assume death. Well, they would have been lucky to be dead. Instead, they’ve been taken prisoner by the army of leopard seals, forced to help the seals and do their work. They are being forced to hunt fish for the cruel seal, working and swimming long, hard hours without much food for themselves. The penguins are even forced to watch the seals’ offspring, making sure they are well fed, even if that includes sacrificing a flipper or foot. The cruelest, though, is something that has just arisen. The new leopard seal King has created a program where a few select penguins are allowed to mingle with other penguins; ultimately to find their true love. When a clutch of eggs are born to the pair, they are immediately taken so the leopard seals can do as they please to the helpless eggs. Sometimes the eggs are kept and raised by other penguins, though never the parents. The chicks are raised as more docile, ‘tame’ penguins that because they have spent their lives serving the seals are less likely to try to escape. Only the best of the eggs are kept to live on to this fate however, most are devoured soon after they are laid, or they are eaten before they reach adulthood.

It used to be that the penguins lived normal lives with normal threats. They migrated each year to the breeding grounds to lay their eggs and migrated back to the feeding lands when the chicks were grown. Many penguins died each year, of starvation, being killed by an orca or shark, but these were all parts of life. The penguins were starting to adapt to their life and learn from mistakes, there were less and less deaths every year. But the leopard seals were growing restless. Being the largest of the seals, no other seal challenged them for food or territory, and all was well. But the seals were growing bored with the tastes of fish, gulls, skuas, and smaller seals and sharks. The King leopard seal was brought a penguin that one of the others had found and he immediately was fond of the taste of penguin, and demanded more. This was when the first Exhibition Harvest began. Over time all leopard seals developed the taste for the penguins, and their Exhibition Harvest evolved from a primitive yearly chasing of the penguins to what it is now, a complicated and coordinated attack that herds penguins and takes many every year as prisoners to feed the high-ranked leopards. So now with the annual migration of the penguins they face more than sharks and orcas, drowning and starving. Now they face the mass hunting parties of leopard seals that come and take them. None of the penguins are killed on spot, but their blood leaks into the ocean, their screams heard through the frantic flapping of flippers through water and the screams of parents and mates searching for their lost loved ones.

• Romance is encouraged, but this is also a survival/'war'/prisoner RP.
• You may only have realistic characters. No odd colours(this goes for eyes as well), no wings, and no powers.
• I am only allowing a select few leopard seals. You may apply, but I want mainly penguin characters. Most seals will be played by no specific person. Anyone can RP a seal, but only like so: "Doris' muscles went stiff as she watched a dark shadow approach the ice flow. She knew what it was, a leopard seal, and it was coming right for her. The tiny ice flow would be easily broken or tipped over, she was doomed. Her screams echoed the empty air as the seal lept onto the ice, sliding towards her rapidly."

The King and Queen are known as "The Royals"

Healers: These penguins are generally peaceful, but all have a flipper for mixing herbs. They have good memories and have the ability to remember healing mixes. They are all equal to each other and other penguins, and below The Royals and Dukes.
Normal Penguins: These penguins are normal members, they can have their say to the Dukes and The Royals, but they are not advisers. Among these penguins are the best fishers and singers, they are free to take mates and reproduce when they please.
Chick-Sitters: These penguins have particularly high body temperatures and patience. They keep the chicks and eggs warm whenever they can, and often feed the chicks and make sure they stay out of trouble.
Chicks and Eggs: These are the offspring of the colony. Young penguins are only considered chicks from the time they hatch until they are two years old.

Exhibition Specialists: These seals are great herders and have the greatest drive to kill penguins. They lead the smaller groups of the army into the start of the Harvest.
Pups: These are the offspring of the army. Young leopards are only considered pups from the time they're born until they are one year old.

Personality:
Korora is quiet and calm most of the time, she likes to listen to the silence of nature when she is given the rare moment. She thinks about things, long and hard. She can spend an hour determining what hour to lead the penguins out on a hunt the next day, or days deciding if they should try a new route to avoid the Exhibition Harvest. She believes in teamwork and knows that all penguins have to work together if they are ever to avoid the seals. Despite her size she is mentally strong on the outside, even though most everything gets to her on the inside. Although cautious at first when meeting strangers, Korora is rarely shy and is quite trusting. Even though she is not shy, the penguin is easily flattered and embraced. Her face flushes at almost any compliment or praise, except a thank you. She tries to see the good in things, sometimes taking long periods of time to find them, but on the inside she is quite morbid. All of the stress built up, from the abduction of her father to the loss of a chick she bonded with, locks inside of her. She never wants to seem upset around others, but at night whenever possible she mourns and lets some of her grief leak silently. Mostly she tries to behave herself, but not letting loose has come to bite her in her butt before. Upon occasion, she acts like a chick and has fun, but she thinks adult penguins should act as such.

History:
Korora was born in a clutch of two, her brother hatching a few days before herself. Her parents worried because she took so long to hatch, and her mother had nearly given up on her when she did hatch. Her parents where both very loving and supportive of her and her brother. Her brother whizzed past her in all of the swimming and hunting lessons, while she took it slow. She concentrated on every small detail, even though in the end her brother turned out a faster swimmer and better hunter than herself. In fact there was once a time when the King was thinking about making her a chick-sitter rather than a regular member. It was on her first Exhibition Harvest when she lost her father. Korora had managed to convince the King to let her be on the outside of the colony, to make sure all of the penguins kept in a straight line and none were lost. When the seals came the colony was scattered in a frenzy. While trying to help a late-hatching chick a few months younger than herself, she was unable to see the leopard seal that was closing in on her father. She ended up saving the chick, but her father was taken and later eaten. When they reached the shore, the single King granted her the position of Duchess, and she became Queen when he died of old age.

Personality:
Sparrow's a goof and is always messing around with other penguins. He throws jokes constantly, often making penguins mad with all of his crazy antics. He loves to pull pranks, swapping fresh fish with old fish and even peeing in puddles that penguins drank from. His favourite pass-time is to hang out with his chick-sitter, Sin, who is a bad example on him. Through Sin he has learned to do some of his favourite pranks, running into nests, disturbing lessons. Sometimes he has smart, though confusing, moments, but most of the time he puts aside intelligence to have fun. Even though he's too young for a mate, he's also picked up flirting from Sin and often cooes and 'whistles' at passing females, often acting like a mature penguin looking for a mate. He thinks he's hot stuff that no female can resist, even though he's wrong. Sparrow is clumsy when he's not pranking and often forgets to do things and whines like a typical human teenager. He's lazy a lot and not afraid to be a male--often letting out gas. His view of the world is to be witty or die, and in a way he's almost right. He's not very bright at all when it comes to "street-smarts" and never gives caution. Most of his pranks, ideas and crazy escapes come right off the top of his head. Those that succeed are original, but these are a select few, most end in him failing and hurting himself.

History:
He was born in the second clutch of eggs to his parents, Jera and Julian. His sister, Merran, was born almost as soon as his parents were sexually mature and he came the year after. With his parents so young they do play with Sparrow and Merran from time to time, and that encourages his craziness. His sister was nearly taken on her second Exhibition Harvest, but managed to escape with a badly scarred foot and mangled flipper. This called and muted Sparrow's prankings for a while, but soon he was back in the fast lane when his sister recovered and was in no immediate danger. He's kept a lot of the colony on it's toes since, and views himself as Sin's sidekick-in-training.

Personality: Sin is still cracking through his shell even as he reaches four years. So what if he’s old, that doesn’t mean he’s required to mature. He loves to pull pranks on other people; often ending up with his own self-pride damaged. He doesn’t like to be classified as one thing. For example; he loves to flirt with the ladies even though he’s never been interested in having one as a mate. He’s really only looking for someone with the affection rather than the need to multiply. Sin is known for all the irresponsible, idiotic stunts he pulls. More often than not he’s showing them to his little chick buddies, bringing them along for the ride. He’s always looking for a rush in his every day activities.
History: Sin may have been dropped a few times while he was still in his egg, but when he hatched he was exposed to a world filled with danger; danger he had to explore. He would always be wandering away from his mother when he was old enough to leave her behind a few feet. Gradually, he went farther. That’s when the stunts started. He began pulling pranks, sliding down his stomach into the ocean, breaking into other’s nests; basically anything he could think of. That’s mainly why he had his name. Having a disturbed mother, his actual name never came to him until the stunts came; earning him the name that respectfully describes him.

Personality: Kite is the sort of penguin who wishes that he could grow in size and fight the seals. He hates having to swim from them, hates having to watch penguins being dragged away into the murky depths. He would love more than anything to be able to follow after that seal, whack it round the head with his flipper, and send it crying home to it's parents. But he knows that he can't, and he hates himself because of it. Kite is a critic. Everything that someone does, he will be there, analysing what they could improve on. Not all penguins like it, but they have to deal with it as he will never give up. I suppose you could call it his pastime, he does it to blank the screams from his mind. Because no matter what anyone says, Kite knows one day he will be taken, because he's 'not as strong as he was in his younger days' But despite all this, Kite is a loyal member of the colony, willing to put his life on the line to save as many penguins as possible, and beat the Leopard seals at their own game.
History: He was born in the first clutch of eggs to a inexperienced female - whose name Kite doesn't care to remember. His mother basically left him and his siblings in the care of the Chick-Sitters, and he grew up with a small group of chicks that were around his age. They stayed friends as they got older, all of them competing to become the best at swimming, diving, hunting... And then came the first hunt. When it came, it was sudden, a ear-splitting roar of crashing water and screaming. It was that day that he witnessed one sister - Maggie - devoured by a grinning seal, and his other sister - Azure - ripped away from him and dragged away, her screams fading into the distance. Those screams followed him throughout his life, haunting him, preventing him from ever getting over his childhood.

Personality: Jay is ruthless, emotionless and cold hearted. But that is towards his prey and male seals taht find a way to irritate him. Towards others, he is moody, solemn, quiet but can be kind.
History: Jay was abandoned at birth, left to die or to be caught by the few humans that expeditioned towards the region of land. Like a miracle, he survived, fending for himself but while being alone and afraid. As he grew up he lost his fear, knowing that the worst thing that could happen to him was death and he turned into what he is today, a ruthless killer.

Personality: Skye is usually very calm and collected around other penguins. She does have a playfull side, yet it would take a lot to bring it out of her. She takes her rank as Queen very seriously and always tries to do what is best for the penguins of the colony. She is petrified of seals, after seeing her sister taken by one. She is very carefull and tends to think about her actions before actually doing something. She has a soft spot for chicks, and sometimes dreams about having her own some day. She never backs down from an arguments, no matter what it's over. She's very strong minded and once she decided something it would take something as large as a seal to sway her from the decision.
History: Skye had a generally normal life, both of her parents where the King and Queen infront of her. Her younger sister got captured by seals when she was just 5 years of age. Skye was messing around her and joking that seals couldn't catch a dead fish, when out of the waters a seal emerged. Before Skye could react the seal had dragged her sister away from her. Skye tried her hardest to find her, and spent almost a whole day swimming after the seal, shouting to her sister that she wouldn't let her get taken. After almost a whole day Skye was too tired to swim any further, and almost drowned in the sea. Her father found her, ontop of a small chunk of ice, mumbling about Breeze. Skye's father waited for her to regain consciousness before bringing her back to the colony. When Skye was 9 years old she became the Queen after her mother died. Her father left less than a day after, pausing only to announce Skye as the queen.

Personality: Leo tends to get into mischief when he's bored, it takes a higher rank than him, most likely the King or Queen penguin to actually make him stop and think about his actions. He doesn't make connections very easily, due to the fact that he doesn't really trust other penguins. His upbringing taught him not to get attatched to other penguins, because they simply end up hurting him somewhere along the line. He's independant to the point of stupidity, he won't accept other penguins trying to help him, and always expects them to have an alterior motive.
History: Both of Leo's parents where plain Normal Penguins such as himself. His mother didn't really care about him or his sister, and his father was always away hunting or messing around, so Leo and his sister had to look after themselves. They both ended up getting in trouble a lot when they where younger, so much so that even their mother didn't want anything to do with them. Their mother blamed nearly everything on Leo, simply because he was the elder of the chicks. He got so fed up that he pointedly ended up ignoring his mother until she died from old age, even then he barely cared. He didn't see the point in mourning someone that he didn't like. Leo continued to live his life
