"I... I don't want to talk to her about it. She... She is so innocent, and I don't want to ruin that with a stupid memory... She's better off if she doesn't know." Shadowkit stared at his paws and said "I know now that our parents didn't leave us... We left them. But that is what they wanted, and if it didn't happen, I wouldn't have met you, Cloudsong." He smiled and nuzzled her, and said "Promise you'll never leave me, Cloudsong?"

Cloudsong licked his ears gently. "I swear it on my life," she vowed. "I'll never leave my kits,"

"Thank you, Cloudsong." Shadowkit smiled and went back into the nursery. He felt a lot better, and definately a lot safer knowing that Cloudsong was with him. He was no longer shaking, and though the memory hadn't left his mind, it didn't bother him as much. Shadowkit wondered if Cloudsong's kittens would start speaking soon. He was eager to be an apprentice, and hoped that they would soon join him. He and Leopardkit were almost six moons, but he still felt like a tiny kit, blind and yowling for attention.

Cloudsong followed him glad to have helped him somehow. She knew she would be around for him and his sister for as long as they still needed her. She settled back next to her six kits and licked them gently. Then she turnedto Leopardkit. "Why don't you show me what you can do? Try stalking,"

Leopardkit immediatly flattened herself to the ground, and crept forward. She scanned the nursery for targets, and began to crawl forward, keeping her step light and silent. She kept her breathing low and controlled, and began to creep towards Shadowkit. She looked to Cloudsong for approval and critique.

Shadowkit watched Leopardkit with amused curiousity, making many mental notes about her form and how he would do it differently.

Cloudsong purred. "Very good but make sure your tail isn't too high or too low. If it's too high the prey will know your close and run off. If it's too low it will make the leaves on the ground move and make too much noise. Remember the bestkind of cat is a silent cat when it comes to hunting," she mewed her golden eyes shining with approval. "Now Shadowkit I want to see your best pounce."

Leopardkit nodded, happy to get constructive critizism. She wanted to be the best apprentice she could, and if that meant early training, she was still eager.

Shadowkit nodded and stared at Leopardkit, he winked, and when the time was right, he launched himself through the air. He didn't want to use so much power, because if he did, she might dodge him, and he could barrel right into the ground with enough sloppyness to give her the upperhand. He relied more on his aim, and made sure that when he saw her eyes flicker to the left, he would aim in that direction. When Leopardkit began to dodge his pounce, he pinned her to the floor.

Cloudsong purred louder. "Very good you two!" she mewed. She nodded to herself. "Shadowkit you're good at predicting your sister's movements and where she's going to be and Leopardkit you're very good at stalking. But remember this: A hunting cat moves unseen, and unheard. They make sure no cat, bird, fox, mouse, or rabbit can hear them as they stalk. Always keep your eyes on the prey, be alret and be focused."

"Eh, I've known Leopardkit forever. You just have look your opponent in the eyes, which I guess some cats have a problem with." Shadowkit explained, and nudge his sister, grinning.

Leopardkit laughed and said "Thanks, Cloudsong! You're the best!" She pranced around and crouched, practicing her newfound skills.

Cloudsong let out a soft purr. "You two can go out and play if you want but stay where I can see you," she mewed.
