"Forever?" said Simon. "Forever’s an awfully long time."
Jace raised his eyebrows. "I knew it," he said. "You want to kiss me, don’t you?"
"You see, cuckoos are parasites. They lay their eggs in other birds' nests. When the egg hatches, the baby cuckoo pushes the other baby birds out of the nest. The poor parent birds work themselves to death trying to find enough food to feed the enormous cuckoo child who has murdered their babies and taken their places."
"Enormous?" said Jace. "Did you just call me fat?"
"It was an analogy."
"I am not fat."

Skye took the wood and the lighter. She put the wood close to the middle of the cave, and lighted it. After that, she began to slice the meat into slices. She put seasonings on it, and a bit of breading before she put it on top of the fire. She sat back, and said, "It has to cook for at least 30 minutes... I'll go get some water and some plates."
Skye walked out of the cave to get it. When she came back, she had six bottles of water, enough to last them for a day or two. She also had three plates and forks.
