⚞ EAGLECALL ⚟

Eaglecall’s ears twitched absently as she sat near the edge of the camp, watching others mill about. There were no conversations she could jump into, really, her clanmates busy with eating and—in the particular case of Hickoryfoot and Tundrastar, and it seemed the medicine cats as well—getting things set up for the day. She gave a bland huff of a sigh—and then nearly choked on her chickadee in haste to swallow the rest of it when Hickoryfoot called out.
Her former mentor (and already that felt so far removed from her current position, though it hadn’t been too many moons since she’d been an apprentice) stood near the camp borders, overlooking it from a raised position; he looked every bit the leader he would one day be. Although hopefully that wouldn’t be for too long—Eaglecall liked and admired Tundrastar, and the idea of losing her was unsettling. Eaglecall trotted over to Hickoryfoot in a heartbeat, calling, “I’ll join!” as she went. Sure, she’d already spent the morning hunting, but that had been more for practice than anything, and there was nothing like going on an early patrol.
She recalled her brother’s distant words from this morning; the weight in Eaglecall’s stomach said it was too late to share prey, but perhaps pulling him into the same patrol would make up for it. “I can go ask Dipperflight if he’d like to join too,” she added, glancing over her shoulder toward the warriors’ den. “It should only take a moment or two.”
⏵ STORMBREEZE ⏴
He | 43 moons | Warrior
Tags: Sealpaw | Mentions: Polarpine, Smokeysky, Hickoryfoot, Tundrastar, Maplevalley, Newtpaw | Location: Camp
As Polarpine, after a brief nod that Stormbreeze’s whiskers gave a fond quirk at, padded away to speak with her sister, Stormbreeze returned his attention to his breakfast. He ate quietly and efficiently, observing the camp as the clan began to wake. Active interactions weren’t as interesting to Stormbreeze as simple observation. While he chewed, his eyes flitted about, from Polarpine and Smokeysky’s conversation to that of Hickoryfoot and Tundrastar. Nothing was dramatic enough to draw the whole of his attention, but it felt right enough to watch in his usual silence and solitude.
By the time Hickoryfoot called for the first hunting patrol of the day, Stormbreeze had finished his meal. His observation shifted to the clan deputy. Some were quick to volunter—like bright-eyed Eaglecall and warm Maplevalley, who naturally offered Newtpaw as well. Stormbreeze tilted his head a bit at that; with how close Newtpaw and Sealpaw were, they tended to train together often, and he’d had some inclination to ask Maplevalley if they could arrange sparring practice later today. It was no matter, though, as ideas were simply ideas. Stormbreeze was flexible, perhaps too much so. He wasn’t opposed to joining the hunting patrol, but he wouldn’t trip over himself in voluntary effort.
If Hickoryfoot called him back, he would of course obey, but for now Stormbreeze made to gather his apprentice. He rose to his paws with practiced delicacy, a smooth elegance that belied the musculature of his legs. A heartbeat was spent preparing himself—her energy was a little much, he had to admit, with how it contrasted his far more subdued personality—before he started toward the apprentices’ den.
Mid-approach, he noticed Sealpaw in conversation with Newtpaw, and he tilted his head back, neither sitting nor walking closer. He didn’t call out, instead waiting for her to notice his presence.
♛ MOOSESTEP ♛
She | 37 moons | Medicine cat
Tags: Honeyblaze | Mentions: Ravenfeather, Cariboupaw, Moonpaw, Frostfang, Tundrastar | Location: Medicine den
At Honeyblaze’s sudden appearance, Moosestep tilted her head back, staying rooted to the spot and letting out the slightest of hisses. So much for her peace and quiet. Although it likely wouldn’t have lasted much longer to begin with, given the sounds of Ravenfeather and the apprentices stirring behind her. Her tail lashed behind her at Honeyblaze’s meek explanation. She’d half-expected her first visitor of the day to be her father; she wasn’t sure if she was relieved or not that it was instead Honeyblaze. Tundrastar was bound to drop by at some point this morning as well—but Moosestep did have a duty to whoever came to her and Ravenfeather’s den asking for treatment.
“A pinecone,” she repeated in a dull tone, flicking her ears. “What a mighty pinecone that must have been, to fell a warrior so.” Droll sarcasm dripped from her voice, but she turned on her paw nonetheless, nudging past Ravenfeather toward their herbs. “Come, then. And tell me about this pinecone of yours. How severe is the pain?”
She wouldn’t protest complaints about her bearing—they were true, and Moosestep had little plans to change her behavior—but if there was one thing she was intent on, it was serving her clan to the fullest of her ability. Searching for the proper herbs, she waited for Honeyblaze to follow.
