Letting out a little trill of acknowledgement, Skybird refocused her eyes on the path ahead of her. When a twig snapped, she opened her mouth to taste the air, but whatever it was, the wind was against her finding out. She nodded silently to Vixennight's question and flicked her tail to indicate she'd approach from another direction. Once she had carefully picked her way over, still not able to scent anything, she sent Vixennight a little head tilt to signal she was ready as backup.

The she-cat's heart sank. Poor thing! Dawncloud took a few steps forward and gave Shadow a gentle nuzzle between her ears. "I should take you back to camp," the mottled cat mewed. "I'm not sure if they'll decide to let you stay or not, or if you'd like to, but I think Brightnoise should look you over regardless. She's our medicine cat; I don't think she'd mind in the slightest. Is that okay with you? I'd feel awful just leaving you here." Dawncloud settled down beside the black she-kit, trying to show some comfort, but at the same time not trying to seem overbearing. She didn't want to make Shadow uncomfortable or give her the wrong vibes.

The tom's sights fell upon a plump water vole and he took it into his jaws, pleased to find something decent in the remains of the fresh-kill; in fact, from the smell of it, it seemed like it had been killed just this morning. Turning from the pile, Scarabstar was glad to see that Timber was to be found -- for a moment, he was beginning to worry that she might have left Clan territory. With the water vole in tow, he strode over to her with an amiable nod before placing the prey at the bengal molly's paws. "I am pleased to see you up and well," he rumbled as he headed for a shadowy spot near the cave wall. As the tom settled down, his black pelt seemed to melt into the darkness, as if he had become a part of the very place that sheltered his cats. Once she had gotten comfortable he went on: "I have spoken to Brightnoise just now, and she and I have agreed to extend an invitation to you to join BearClan. We will offer you food and shelter, as well as a warm, safe place to birth your kits."

As he trailed off, Scarabstar wondered what he would do if she refused his offer. He knew that his Clan was an excellent place to rear young, but would she see it that way? She would be a stranger in their midst, and even though he didn't like to dwell on the thought, BearClan territory might not be as safe as it once was, what with the presence of Twolegs and the danger of the explosion. Was he right to offer her sanctuary when his claims of security may not hold fast? Scarabstar flicked his ear in dismissal of his thoughts. It would be better for her to be with other cats than to wander around unknown lands.

The bicolored molly's eyes grew wide as the rabbit raced away towards Sparrowtail. She held her breath, sinking her claws into the soil as the tom failed to catch the prey. Raingaze tore after it, and by the time Plumsparrow had trotted over to Sparrowtail, he returned with their quarry in his clutches. "Nice catch!" she mewed with a grin, nodding to the rabbit. "And Raingaze is right; StarClan knows why the best prey is always the trickiest to catch." After a moment of hesitation, she touched her nose to his cheek in an attempt to raise his spirits. Her pelt burned as a result of her forwardness (at least, forward on her level), and she shook herself to get rid of her nerves.

"We can bury the rabbit and try looking for some herbs, catching prey as we go. Raingaze, do you want to lead? You know more about herbs than I do." She shuffled her paws, hoping he would say yes but not daring to plead. Plumsparrow had never much liked being in a position of command, as she was far happier to follow along. Stepping forward, she gently took the rabbit from Raingaze and nestled it beneath some ferns, pawing some leaf litter on top of it for good measure.

Quilldown nodded in agreement, though he had a feeling Brightnoise wouldn't concur with his father: she would give him some herbs to ease his joints and insist he lie down and rest -- but Quilldown was no medicine cat, and with a pang he wondered how many more patrols he would get to have alongside his father before Scarabstar would have to drag Cloudburst to the elder's den himself. "Oh, I'm okay; just sore from clearing out all that rubble. With any luck, yesterday's chaos will stay in the past," he muttered, worried that his father might not be so lucky if the explosions continued to demolish their territory. What if they went off too close to the camp?

Quilldown's worries dissipated as he focused on descending the cliffs that he'd been scaling since he was an apprentice. He paused to turn back when Cloudburst asked Thrushfeather if she was all right. "I'll carry you down if you like," Quilldown mewed, his green eyes alight with mirth. Despite his merry expression, he leaned forward to give his Clanmate a sniff to make sure she hadn't wounded herself.

Lavenderpaw continued walking until she felt the fur along her spine prickling uneasily. She slowed down and warily scanned her surroundings, her ears swiveling and her blue eyes picking apart the shadows for her mentors ginger pelt.

But she didn't look up.

Firefang fell from the heavens and struck out with his front paws. The siamese molly yowled in surprise and felt the river's current tugging at her legs as she backed towards the shore. Thinking fast, she plunged her paw into the waters and thrust it back towards her mentor to blind him. As the droplets flew at the tom, Lavenderpaw leaped and landed expertly on her hind paws, her forelegs reaching up to wrap around Firefang's neck. Grasping the side of his neck in her teeth, she threw her weight to the ground in an effort to drag him down on top of her, her hind legs poised to rake his belly -- with her claws sheathed, of course.

“I don’t want to be left alone. But if your clan doesn’t let me stay I understand.” Shadow said. She didn’t expect any clan would welcome a lone traumatized kit like her. “I guess it couldn’t hurt to get looked at.” She added getting to her feet. “What is your name? She asked with a smile.

The tom tilted his head to the side in thought. "I've only been taken out to help look for herbs once or twice as an apprentice when I wasn't busy training or sleeping," he mewed. "I know there's catmint near the western border and marigold if we were to go upstream a bit..." Raingaze trailed off. "Maybe some goldenrod up there too, but it's a bit early for that. If I see something I recognize, I'll be more certain about where things are," he finished, slightly embarrassed about his lacking knowledge. He lifted his nose in the air to check it briefly before returning his attention to his clanmates. "I'm ready when you are," the silver tom meowed with a small smile. There was no need to rush.

She gave Shadow a few quick licks on her little ears, listening to her as she spoke. She stopped once the kit stood. "My name is Dawncloud," the she-cat mewed gently. Dawncloud gave Shadow a few curious sniffs as she got to her paws. She didn't smell any twolegs on her; only the faint scent of two other cats and the stale scent of blood. She was fairly certain it was not Shadow's own blood, but she looked her over quickly just to be sure. She flicked Shadow softly with the tip of her tail. "Let's go then," Dawncloud mrrowed. "We can get you cleaned up and looked after." Dawncloud set off at a rather slow pace; she decided she would let Shadow determine the speed. The dappled she-cat was unsure if there were any hidden injuries that might be paining the kit, or if travelling back in a hurry would be the kit nervous.

a chuckle escaped the warrior as his apprenticed managed to spit out a simple word to him before the tussle continued. he was slightly surprised when he was knocked off balance by his apprentice's kicks to his belly. a small opening was given for frostpaw to attack and back paws hit elmtooth square in the chest as frostpaw tried to push him off. the onyx tomcat lashed his tail and went to bat at the other tom's face before retreating a foxlength away.

"you've gotten stronger it seems." elmtooth said with a cheeky grin as he centered himself. "lets see what other surprises you have." the element of surprise was gone now but he didn't want to give frostpaw enough time to fully prepare himself for the next attack. at the end of his statement, he charged forward with the aim to hit the apprentice's flank with sheathed paws. the warrior did not use his full speed in this case, as he wanted to see what other defenses that frostpaw may have improved on, especially if he was able to knock his mentor off his own paws leaving himself open enough for that to be a possibility.

Shadow was just a bit nervous. She hoped the other cats liked her. She wouldn’t hurt anyone. Or cause any trouble. She almost wanted to run if it weren’t for the fact she was worried the other clan cats didn’t like her. “Dawncloud? Do you think the clan will like me?” She meowed, looking up at the bigger she cat. Shadow could easily keep up with the pace. She had a lot of energy and could easily run off. But Shadow chose to stay close to Dawncloud.

The dappled she-cat quickened her pace just a tad as she realized how easily Shadow was keeping up with her. Her ears pricked at the kit's question. "I can't say for sure," Dawncloud meowed honestly. "Just as you were affected by the explosion, so was the clan. We're still fixing the camp up and little bit and tending to some wounds; the atmosphere is still a bit quiet and uneasy." She paused and thought for a moment as she walked. "However, I'm sure they won't hate you for no reason. They may be a little uncertain about taking in a new cat, but I know they won't dislike you just for being there. If you choose to stay, and Scarabstar allows you to stay, I don't have any doubt that they won't warm up to you eventually." She stopped at the tree roots she hid her findings in and dug up the mouse and bird feather. She picked them up gently in her teeth.

Dawncloud continued padding along, hoping that she wasn't being too blunt with Shadow; she didn't want to sugarcoat anything and give her false hope, but she also didn't want to push Shadow away, either. By now, they were getting pretty close to camp. "Do you have any more questions before we go? We're almost there," she mewed around her mouthful of fur and feather.

“No I have no questions. But if there’s anything I can do to help fix the camp I’d be glad to lend a paw. I bet the clan would appreciate the help. That explosion was horrible. I bet prey will be hiding awhile.” Shadow said. She really hoped she wasn’t bugging Dawncloud too much. It might be moons before Shadow could forget the explosion. If she ever did.

"Alright then," she mewed. "I'm not sure if there's much you can do around camp; we should really get you looked at first." Dawncloud thought for moment. "You might be able to tend to the older cats and fetch them water or something." She wasn't quite sure how to reply.

Eventually, they reached the entrance to camp. "I think you should stay here while I go get Scarabstar," Dawncloud mewed, licking down a few tufts of chest fur. She turned and trotted into camp, glancing her blue-green eyes around. She hoped no other cat could tell she was nervous. Once she had spotted Scarabstar's black coat, she quickened her pace. "Scarabstar! I need to speak with you," Dawncloud meowed, a tinge of urgency in her voice. "Can you come with me?"
