my, was tobias good at this.
indentthis endless wandering. this quest for revenge. this . . . freedom. while he often found himself missing the company his old gang provided back in the city, the dark tom was his own out here. no one could tell him what to do. no one could hold him back. and the prey to be caught . . . the large tomcat didn't think he'd eaten so well in his whole life. he was a bit unused to the mountainous chill after spending so much time lurking in alleyways and abandoned buildings, however. but the best was that he still incited fear wherever he set his massive paws. no cat interacted with him here unless it was dire. everyone stayed away from the black ghost of the mountains. at times, though he enjoyed being feared, this fact bored tobias, and he went out looking for trouble or interaction with bearclan──precisely what he intended to do on this fine morning. he couldn't deny his curiosity for their way of life and the delight it gave him to converse with or prank cats while they were patrolling their boundaries.
indenttobias slid through the forest with little hesitation, unconcerned with the way he left his scent on the trees and underbrush──especially unconcerned for the prey he sent skittering off, having already eaten earlier that morning. drooping ferns grasped at his tabby back and tail as he passed by them, as if they wanted to hold him prisoner. no, tobias went on his merry way, nose full of foreign bearclan scents as he crossed the border and entered their precious terrain. after prowling for a good while with nothing but the buzz of insects humming in his pricked ears and the cool moss underfoot, the murmur of a stream stole the rogue's attention. he changed direction towards it, emerging from the cover of the shrubbery and plunging his wide muzzle into the icy waters to drink. the water was crystal clear and shallow, pleasant on his tongue.
indenthis drink was interrupted by a great explosion along the western border, eerily close to him. the sky immediately darkened with plumes of debris and smoke, and tobias, not usually frightened, was frozen with fear and shock, watching the sky warily. he rolled out of the way as a shower of dirt and rock cascaded down, taking shelter under the roots of a pine until the worst was over and only hazy smoke remained. casting his pale gaze around, he spotted an oak tree with low hanging branches, and decided to scale it so he could see what was happening from above. crossing the forest with care, he began his ascent. it was no secret that the humans were encroaching upon this land, meaning that he would probably have to move on soon and leave bearclan to its own dark fate. they were blowing up the mountain for a dark substance, coming closer and closer to the clan everyday. when he reached the top of the oak and crawled to the tip of the last branch that could bear his weight, he was met with the sight of fallen rocks and more smoke, as well as the nearby caterwauls of cats.
indentnow that was interesting indeed. tobias smirked and made his way back down the tree until his paws were on the forest floor once more. shaking out his thick coat and flexing his muscles, he headed off in the direction of the commotion, curiosity getting the best of him. he had nothing to fear, seeing as he could take on any of his soft neighbors with ease; humans, and their stupidity, were the only things that made his blood curdle. but what he came upon was rather unexpected. sliding out from behind a bramble bush, he stumbled upon a long-furred brown tabby, young and reeking of fear and blood. tobias halted in his tracks, peering at the stranger with cold, half-lidded eyes.
indentthe smaller cat turned to face tobias, eyes widening with a mix of fear and uncertainty, nose quivering like a frightened prey creature. the brown cat's left eye was swollen shut and bloodied. inwardly, tobias clicked his tongue, doubting the poor thing would see out of it again. he jerked his head in a curt nod, growling gruffly, "what in the hell happened to you, kid?" normally, tobias wouldn't even consider describing himself as the compassionate kind, but the tom before him clearly needed help, and he was willing to oblige. perhaps today would be prove to be interesting indeed. "anyone else from your lot around?"

The she-cat looked at the large tom in confusion, she flattened her ears ever-so-slightly with a very small– yet confused smile, “No, I’m not– I’m sorry,” Timber spoke in a soft tone– but her voice was rough from inhaling all the dust and ash, the cat must’ve been expecting to find one of his clanmates. She could only guess that they might’ve been separated in the mishap of the distraction. Timber suddenly felt guilty, although this encounter possibly saved her, it probably added more stress on this cat’s shoulders.
She listened to the cat speak, he seemed genuinely concerned– it was something she wasn’t used too and she wasn’t quite sure how to react. “I’m okay, I think– my ankle hurts a little, but I can just walk it off I’m sure,” Timber reassured him, she wasn’t lying– she felt fine aside from an aching ankle. “I’m Timber,” She said in reply to his introduction, “Brightnoise? They must be your medicine cat, right?” The feline asked curiously.
As a voice rang through the area, Timber couldn’t help but jump to her paws in surprise. She hadn’t heard these cats approach, which wasn’t much of a surprise considering how distracted she was with the whole situation. She listened to the cats as they reunited, there was three of them. They obviously cared for each other within the clan. Though when she realized that there were eyes one her, she looked back at the cat skeptically– almost anxiously.
Though a hiss towards the back drew her attention, though Timber realized that it had been directed towards her. She flattened her ears against her skull as he spoke, “I didn’t mean too,” Timber spoke in a solemn tone, she hadn’t even realized she had ran into a clan’s territory until now. Which would explain why all the cats had been drawn here.
Though his first statement took a moment to process– she perked back up, “The two-legs have been placing these round things in the ground, I think that those might be the source of all this!” Timber said, though the statement was rushed as she tried to get it out quick.
