────── ♔ Why Starclan why...?

As the moon shone bright on the camp below, the remaining shadows concealed a certain feline. The tom's dark pelt blending into the shadows, his amber gaze the only thing one could see. The tom stared at the sky, his usual doings when the clan was up and about. The stars were bright as usual, but the clan's future certainly didn't seem very bright. The night was silent except for the quiet murmurs of his clanmates farther off. Everything seemed muffled as if the tom was in some sort of trance. He let out a quiet breath, before slowing rising to his paws. Why had Starclan done this to him? Why had Starclan let this happen to the clan? His tail lashed, though he quickly forced his anger away. There was no use getting upset. It wouldn't fix the past and it certainly wouldn't help the clan at the moment. He let out a heavy sigh, before regaining his senses. He turned and saw the clan gathering around the clan leader, and began to pad over there himself. Patrols were probably being assigned, which was something he should be doing. He'd apologize about it later. He slowly approached the group, before speaking in a clear voice. "I'll gladly tag along on a patrol.", he said with a quick glance around the gathered felines. He knew the clan was suffering from a shortage of prey, and it seemed to be on Scorchstar's mind frequently and rightfully so. He hoped they would manage to bring back a good amount of prey, if nothing else to ease the leader's and the clan's worries.

Cloudsnook arose from his nest a bit later than usual, majority of the rest of the clan was already awake. He padded out of the warriors den, his footfalls quiet. The camp was oddly quiet itself, though the forest was almost silent. The sounds of prey running free were no longer there, at least they weren't heard as often as before. The tom's white pelt stood out in the darkness, almost as if a ghost itself had appeared in his place. The warrior turned his amber gaze toward the group of cats that stood near Scorchstar, it seemed as if patrols were about to head out. Prey was low for the clan and no one had any idea why. With all the previous events that happened, before this one would think they'd been cursed. He certainly hoped that wasn't the case. The tom slowed upon reaching the group, his ears twitching as he listened to Scorchstar's words. Perhaps, he'd tag along on a patrol as well or he'd stay behind. However, the extra warrior wouldn't be turned down in times like these, another feline helping to search for prey was another chance at finding food for the clan.

As usual, Hazelpaw was up bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Her ears flicked as she padded out of the apprentice den, turning her gaze skyward. The moon cast down its silvery light, giving the cats of the clan a silver hue. Her bluish-green gaze scanned the camp, seeing that majority of the clan was already up. Her fluffy tail swayed, occasionally brushing the ground. She was a bit worried about the current state of the clan, with little food the clan was suffering. Just at the thought, her stomach growled and she let out a sigh. Hazelpaw didn't complain about the shortage of food, but her stomach surely did. Her whiskers twitched as she gazed up at the stars, and wonder why Starclan wasn't helping them. That's what they were supposed to do right? Starclan was supposed to help them through dark times. At least, that's what others told her. She let out a breath, letting her tail drag on the ground as she padded over to see what the small group of felines was about. Her ears pricked at their leader's words and she glanced at the other felines. Perhaps, her mentor would tag along on a patrol and she could join too. She'd do anything to help out the clan. They, needed all the help they could get after all.

The dark tabby molly watched the clan from the shadows, mostly out of boredom. However, her gaze seemed to always move to the forest beyond the clan's camp. She couldn't believe she was letting herself worry about this. It was foolish at least in her eyes. Then again if the clan didn't find food soon, they'd certainly perish. She let out a breath, her tail swaying slowly. Her amber gaze narrowed as she glanced at the gathering group of cats. Figuring she might as well head over there, before she got yelled at later for it she rose to her paws and padded toward the group. Her ears twitched as she heard the clan leader's words, and her tail began to lash. Finally, patrols were being assigned. Once Scorchstar was silent, she spoke. "I'll tag along if needed. The patrols could use all the cats they can get after all.", she said as she waited for the patrols to form. Truthfully, she didn't want to go on a patrol, she'd rather hunt alone. But with the current state the clan was in, it was probably best to hunt alongside a patrol, rather than going solo.

Her eyes glowed into the darkness, as she looked after the tom Shatteredmoon getting out of the camp almost immediately all alone. Sometimes she felt like if the tom was lonely after breaking up with his mate, especially when they seemed to be so close with each other. Her eyes looked toward the handsome Wolfrunner there talking with the group of other cats.

His eyes located the one of the apprentice's Emberpaw, which was the same age as him, but still an apprentice, he had some feelings toward the ginger tom but thought they could be too wrong to show.

indentation The trails that Shatteredmoon chose were familiar ones, and he kept close to the river. With all the recent rain, it had swollen over its usual embankment, and if he didn't pay attention, he'd step into its icy waters. It wasn't his intention at this time of season to get his paws wet, so he distanced himself by a few tail-lengths before continuing his path. There was one area of the territory he hadn't hunted through in days and he wanted to check on it.

indentation The late night walk was calming in a way and Shatteredmoon paused just long enough to peer up at the cold, distant stars overhead. They twinkled faintly, far, far away and he allowed himself just a moment to let his mind drift. A scuttling sound distracted him and his ears swiveled to locate it before he'd even fully registered. His belly growled almost as soon as he caught the scent of prey.

indentation It took a few heartbeats for him to locate his prey, jaws open to sift through the thin, cool air. Finally, he spotted a little mouse rooting between some rocks, searching for seeds. He paused to check the wind's direction before dropping into a hunter's crouch. He crept like a shadow toward his prey, holding his breath out of fear of alerting it. He couldn't lose this opportunity.

When she didn't choose names but instead divided by whether they had apprentices or not, he flicked his tail and sighed. At least he knew where he'd be. It was an odd assignment choice in his opinion, leaving two quite large groups, but what did he know?

indentation He waited for the groups to begin to form, eyeing those who didn't have apprentices so that he could just jump up to join them as they were beginning to creep from the cave. His belly ached, but it was from hunger, reminding him that he hadn't eaten in a while. It was easily ignored, nothing like the belly pains that gripped him in his bouts of illness.

indentation While he waited for his mentor to assign patrols, he couldn't help but note the small streak of anxiety that flitted across her face. Even she wasn't comfortable around large crowds. He wondered the root of it, for she was accomplished and smart and capable - the opposite of him. So what caused Scorchstar's anxiety?

indentation He was torn from his pondering when something crashed into and toppled over him, bringing his larger frame to the ground as well. He was on his paws in an instant and looked down at Leopardpaw as she also scrambled up. Even as she began to apologize, he was already feeling a small flurry of panic. "Are you okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?" As if he'd been the one to trip over her. Still, he'd been in her way. If he'd been tucked a little closer to the side of the cave, he wouldn't have tripped her up.

indentation He was saved from further scrutiny or possibly an accusation when Scorchstar turned her attention back to him, suggesting that they take a solo trip. He knew why, of course. She was surely ashamed and didn't want to be reminded of the younger apprentices' successes while he failed. Still, he dipped his head obediently, eyes on his mentor's paws and ears growing hot with embarrassment. "Ready whenever you are, Scorchstar."

FawnBlossom woke up from her slumber and glanced around the den, realizing that most cats were up except for one that caught her eye which was SilentRain. She decided against waking up the cat, especially when she noticed that SilentRain had her eyes open but was not moving from her nest. She stretched her legs before rising from her nest and stepping out of the den.

She shifted in her nest, so her back was now on her nest instead of her belly, and stared up at the top of the den with a calm expression on her face.

He just had to wait until Pigeonpaw woke up so he could assess his hearing again. That was the only way he could see if it would improve at all. Hailnight exhaled heavily and shook his head.

the lean tabby warrior listened attentively to the leader, waiting for any sort of instructions or assignments. she wanted two patrols, one for hunting and one for education. due to the fact that he had an apprentice, he would most likely be placed on the educational trip, so he went ahead and tried to find his apprentice. he spotted the little calico with her apprentice friends and almost made direct eye contact with her. looks like she was also itching to get out on a patrol. before walking to get his apprentice, he looked around to see if he noticed any other warriors with their apprentices who were ready to get out on a partol. he spotted minnowlight, lavenderhaze, and silverstrike. perhaps they would like to join with the patrol. he padded over to lightpaw and said I assume we will be going on that patrol, and hopefully won't be the only ones. you ready to go out and catch some prey? maybe blow all of the other apprentices out of the way?

the leopard-spotted apprentice shook her head at emberpaw, pretty confident that she was alright and unharmed. i'm good, thanks. just a little distracted I guess. she tilted her head slightly and looked to the ground a moment later, a little embarrased still. she saw scorchstar come over with almost a scornful look towards the young apprentice. leopardpaw was slightly offended by the look, but kept her mouth shut. better not upset the leader even more than she already looked like she was. her ears laid back as she watched the older apprentice and the leader converse, eventually growing very tired of their company and going back over to the other apprentices she called friends. wolfrunner walked over to lightpaw before the young leopard-coated feline could say anything and invited lightpaw on the patrol. she sat down and looked into the crowed, trying to locate minnowlight to no avail.
