Vipertail sulked in her nest.

Minnowstar beckoned to Vipertail. "May I have a word with you? In private?"

"Fine," spat Vipertail

Minnowstar led Vipertail into the leader's den. The old moss still had Batstar's scent, and the deceased leader's belongings still cluttered the cavern. Obviously Minnowstar hadn't found the time to clean it out. "About Flamepaw," she told Vipertail. "I want you to treat him as any other Clanborn apprentice. I don't care if you feel bad for Magmastar, I don't care if you think he's disloyal because he switched Clans, I don't care if you don't like him.

"Also, don't pull any tricks with Magmastar or it will be you – not Flamepaw! – who gets sent to BrackenClan!" She continued in a lighter tone. "Anyway, I believe Foxfang is out hunting, perhaps you should join him. The Clan could always use extra prey."

"He will never be my equal." Vipertail's voice was dangerously soft. "Yes, I guess I will hunt." And she swept from the den.

Minnowstar narrowed her eyes. You'll be surprised.

Blizzardmask and Grayspirit sat on the rock above the leader's cavern, the one that jutted out over the oasis. They both munched on chuckwallas.

"Remember when Batstar used to rest here?" Grayspirit began.
"Yep," Blizzardmask mewed through mouthfuls of lizard. "And boast about how handsome he was?"
Grayspirit chuckled softly. "Yep, but this is a nice spot. The stone is nice and warm, and you can see all of camp..."
"So..." Blizzardmask began. "Any ones you like?"
Grayspirit blinked. "What?"
"She-cats," Blizzardmask replied. "Are there any your interested in?"

Grayspirit felt hot under his pelt. "Wh-what!? Why would you say that?!"
"Well, your certainly old enough for a mate, and the Clan could always use kits," Blizzardmask began. "Besides, you are pretty handsome~" he added playfully.
Grayspirit cuffed him. "Who are you to tell me that you sicko!?" He joked.
Blizzardmask purred. "But seriously. Are there any she-cats you like? Any that stand out? Like bright stars?"

Grayspirit thought of Willowpaw. Oh yes, there is one. She's the brightest star. But... His eyes clouded. She's possessed with a demon's soul... so am I. We were born to kill... created only to destroy this generation... and even with all of this I can't stop loving her.

"No," Grayspirit replied to Blizzardmask. "There aren't any she-cats I like."

Vipertail stalked off into the desert to take her anger out on the chuckwallas.

Deep spasms hit Pepperwhisker. "The kits!" she exclaimed. "I think the kits are coming!"

Waterstep nodded and then followed behind Shaleshard. But soon she turned back to Scorpionpaw and asked "are you coming?"
