28 moons ~ she-cat ~ loner/outsider ~ location: twoleg barn ~ tags: open!
____________________________________________________

Taking a quick stretch, a tortoiseshell hopped down from a haystack. Glancing out the barn door, she was slightly disappointed at the clouds filling the sky. Having the sun to take a nap in would be nice, especially after having this weather for a while. Ace padded out the barn, taking a breath of fresh air before pausing to groom herself. Life had been quite boring recently, especially while watching the group of cats that lived in the forest near the mountains. Plus, she had almost gotten caught a few days ago and the loner had refrained from visiting the past few days.

With a sudden gust of wind, the she-cat jumped to her feet and glanced around the area, wondering where she should go today. Perhaps it would be time to go back to that strange group of cats? Did they have a name? Ace couldn't remember. After all, it's not like she could ever go and ask them. Pausing, eventually, she decided on checking around the borders of their territory for anything interesting, giving her an easy escape if she ever came across them. It would be better to wait maybe another day or two until she visits them again. Of course, this could just be Ace acting paranoid, considering they probably just assumed she was a squirrel or something.

The outsider opened her mouth, checking for any nearby scents. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it wouldn't hurt to take a few stops by the twolegplace. Possibly she could find something else to entertain herself with. The black and gold tortoiseshell bounded in the general direction of the twolegplace, hoping to meet someone new to talk to. As always, the weather was just a bit too cold for her liking, but there's not much she could do about that. At least she could probably find somewhere warm in the twolegplace, considering that several twolegs would just grab cats they find and shove them inside one of their dens, especially the twoleg kits.

Turning her attention back to running, Ace slightly slowed her pace, to make sure she had enough energy to make it to the twolegplace.

Silenceโ€™s eyes flickered open as a beam of dawn light trickled into her den and pooled directly on her face, like a needy kit looking to her for warmth. The black she-cat grumbled and turned her back to the beam, letting it warm her back as she rasped her tongue over her paw to begin washing her face. She had just begun to enjoy the patch of heat when it faded away, leaving her in a chilly darkness. Silence frowned and finally stood up, arching her back and peeking out to observe the overcast leaf-fall skies.

With a sigh, she slipped out of the den and took her time stretching each of her long limbs before padding over to the fresh-kill pile. Pale eyes narrowed, she pawed through the kill, taking note of what needed to be restocked. Not a fan of cold, leftover prey, Eclipseโ€™s Silence turned and approached The Watcherโ€™s stone and reached up to sharpen her claws on its frosty surface. This stone would be hers one day; she would get to sit atop it, not beside it. Whiskers twitching, she turned back to the clearing and observed the clan, waiting to begin sending out patrols.

kestrelpaw groaned, his paws ached and he felt miserable. blinking his eyes tiredly as he followed behind the warriors. but he was chosen, and boy was he proud of the fact. now he found himself wishing he was back training, at least he'd have something to brag about when they returned. a familiar smell washed upon him, though it wasn't welcome. the thunderpath was suddenly in front of them as they paused, and his fur ruffled as a monster flew by. killers. he looked unsure of the idea, turning to his fellow clanmates as he looked at the monsters. "are you sure?" he asked, though he knew this was the only way. perfect, this was just perfect. he wouldn't be a coward, thats for sure. kestrelpaw stretched as he crouched down, "ok, so on your mark?"

The ache in Doveshadow's feet had begun to travel up into her legs making every lift of her legs painful and hard. She had been walking, with five others of her clan, for days in search of a better home for their whole clan. A better place to raise kits she surely hoped. That's why she wanted to come along, she needed to be sure the kits of the clan were is the safest home possible. Her clear blue eyes scanned the land around her, she heard a terrible noise that filled her with the urge to flee and smelled something fowl enough to make her gag. This must be the thunderpath she'd heard about all her life but never having been near one she had always thought they were stories to scare young kits. Stoneheart, the leader of this journey and the clan medicine cat, had finally come to a stop at the edge of the tree line saying they needed to cross. She padded up next to him, her eyes full of worry for herself and her clanmates as she watched the monsters race by. "And you're sure this is the safest way across?" She mewed softly.

Rolling over the young sand colored cat arched his back as he stretched the stiffness of sleep from his limbs. Little Sky was waking up from a great dream about him hunting and eating and doing whatever he wanted forever. Thinking of the pray he had hunted made his stomach growl. With a yawn the tom got up from his comfy nest and walked out to the fresh kill pile. It was a cloudy leaf-bare day, one of many that seemed to just blur together in his mind. He had never liked the cold days, much preferring the sunny and hot days of summer. As he neared the fresh-kill he noticed that the Protegee was up and about as well, which meant patrols would be handed out soon. Digging through the cold stale prey he selected a decent looking vole, turned and walked over to sit next to Eclipse's Silence. "Good morning." He mewed, dipping his head respectfully before tucking into his meal.

The Guardian dashed through the forest as he made his way towards the thunderpath. He made quick time, faster now than he had been in life. The trees a mere blur as he went. His speed a gift from the star guardians when he was given his role. Echoing memories of that night so many moons ago flashed through his head. For a brief second he could hear the cries and feel the pain of that night. He let out a low hiss as he pushed the thoughts away. Now was not the time for that. He needed to find the seven. They'd be about to the thunderpath by now. If his vision was anything to go by, he'd reach them before they crossed.

Even with his speed it still took him some time before he reached the thunderpath. As he slowed to a stop, a all to familiar cold shiver ran through his pelt. He mumbled something under his breath before moving forward. As he neared the edge of the thunderpath, the scent made his muzzle wrinkle with disgust. Just as bad as ever. No matter how many times he had to visit this spot, the small never ceased to disgust him.

The black tom stopped right at the edge of the thunderpath. There they were. Across the dark path, the seven Cedarclan cats. The Guardian studied them. He had only seen briefly flashes of them. It was much better getting a full view of them. They looked slightly worn and tired, though that was to be expected. Theyโ€™d been traveling for a while now without a proper place to sleep. The oldest of the group, a gray long haired tom was the one to catch his attention. The name echoed in his head. โ€Stoneheart...โ€ The Guardian murmured softly. That was the one Sunsplash spoke of. He sat on the Thunderpathโ€™s edge, pale eyes watching with interest. The seven wouldnโ€™t see him, or so he thought. The gray tomโ€™s eyes seemed to almost linger where the Guardian sat. The black tom tilted his head. Interesting. Second time in recent memory for that to happen. Even if Stoneheart couldโ€™t fully see yet... The Guardian felt he could at least sense his presence.

Elk Rush had woken before the sun that morning and had decided to hunt. For the first hour of hunting he didn't get much luck. Finally managing to hunt down a small mouse, Elk Rush padded back to camp. He paused for a moment, the lifeless rodent dangling from his mouth. There was something Birch Shadow had told him several moons ago. They used to give thanks to "starclan" for it's life. The mouse slipped from his jaws, landing on the ground with a soft thud. He stared at it, then looked to the overcast sky above. He had never heard anyone but Birch Shadow give thanks, so never took the habit up for himself. Though... he did wonder. There seamed to have been many things lost in the years since Birch Shadow was a kit. Though no one called it starlcan, they'd look upon their ancestors for help, even if there was never a reply. "Thanks." The tom murmured out, feeling slightly embarrassed for talking aloud to the sky. At least no one was around to poke fun at him. Letting out a small grunt Elk Rush picked up the mouse before heading back to camp. The others would surely be and going by now. Taking another look to the sky, Elk Rush suppressed the urge to sigh. It looked like it'd rain. He shivered at the thought, making him pad a bit faster.

As he trotted back into camp, his attention was drawn to Eclipseโ€™s Silence as she eyed the watchers stone. A wide grin sperd on his face as he watched her. He padded towards her on silent paws. Noticing the younger tom, Little Sky, Elk Rush waved his tail in greeting. When Eclipseโ€™s Silence turned to face him, he dropped the mouse, his grin turning to a smile. "Good morning!" He purred with amusement, stepping towards the molly. "Imagining yourself sitting up there one day huh?" He asked, flicking his tail at the stone as he walked up to it. He'd been there she was named protege, though only just. He wasn't sure what to think about the whole thing at first, but it grew on him later. As he grew to know her, he believed she had been a good pick. He loved to give her a hard time, but always supported her decisions in the end. He eyed up the stone, then turned his gaze to her. He gave her a thoughtful look. "Mhm. Yep. I'd say you'd look pretty good up there. Elk Rush commented closing his eyes, his head dipping in confirming nod. He opened on eye to look at her, giving a playful grin before turning to Little Sky. โ€Wouldnโ€™t you agree?โ€ Elk Rush asked before noticing the trainee digging into a vole.

Elk Rush tail tip twitched, shooting a look at Eclipseโ€™s Silence wondering if she had given permission for it. Glancing back at the young white tom Elk Rush cleared his throat. โ€Well Little Sky, I expect youโ€™ll be working twice as hard today seeing as youโ€™ve already helped yourself to some fresh kill.โ€ Elk Rush kept his voice level, though a tone of warning underneath. Some of the old code had been swept aside or changed a bit.. but the one about trainees and hunters eating last still lingered.

It didn't take long for the ebony molly to be approached, though she had been hoping for someone to send out on a patrol. "Greetings," she mewed from the side of her maw, twitching the tip of her tail as Little Sky settled down to eat beside her. She hoped he wouldn't ask her to take him out of camp; she was the protegee, not a kit-sitter. Besides, her role was to watch over the camp, and how could she do that from beyond its walls?

Eclipse's Silence returned to the present as a new voice spoke to her. She blinked and swiveled her head to peer at Elk Rush, her nose twitching at the scent of fresh prey. "And I'm sure you'll look pretty good down here while I am up there: smaller, and out of my way," she quipped coolly with a single whisk of her tail. To the untrained eye, her words seemed belittling and degrading, but most knew by now she hardly ever meant what she said -- even as adamant as she was about not being disturbed.

At Elk Rush's words to Little Sky, she turned and looked upon the trainee, her eyes flashing. She grunted and hooked the vole with a claw, pulling it out from beneath Little Sky's snout. "Some nerve, eating this right in front of me," she mewed, her expression betraying a hint of admiration. Sighing, she prodded at the vole before sliding it back to Little Sky. "We've no queens, kits, or elders to feed, so he may as well eat. But you're right, Elk Rush: he will have to hunt twice as hard." Her gaze darkened and she cast a glance upwards at the brooding skies, "We all will."

the stench that came from the thunderpath was bearable, at least for this tom. his attention turned to kestrelpaw as the tom dropped to a crouch. the feline lashed his tail, rose to his paws and blocked the apprentice's path. knowing he was questioned regarding the path to take, he still did not answer that question as of yet. "this is not a race. crossing will wait until there is a break in the monsters, do not let your inexperience make you rush through things." the tom stated before his attention was drawn to doveshadow. the molly asked him a similar question to that of kestrelpaw.

"it is better than us following it to find a different path. thunderpaths are extremely long and seem neverending. it would not make sense for us to try and work around them when we may never find an end to one. our journey has already been long, let us not lengthen it." stoneheart said to the warrior for a moment.

something was watching them, though he had not yet turned, he felt eyes on him. the gray cat's gaze turned towards the other side of the thunderpath, searching for the source of this feeling that he had. he had always trusted his instincts and so far, it had kept him, along with others living but something was there.

the steady sound of the monsters had vanished, for the time being. "cross quickly, now." stoneheart said, loud enough for everyone to hear. he knew they would only have a short window to work with without someone being hurt. "watch your footing, thunderpath's aren't usually clean either." he added before turning and breaking into a full sprint.

Doveshadow turned towards Kestrelpaw, thinking he was far more brave then she was at the moment. She was unsure she would even be able to cross. Stoneheart had cut off the apprentice of course, bolting out was also stupid even if it seemed brave. She dipped her head to Stoneheart as he explained his decisions which she appreciated, not everyone was as patience with her as he had been. Doveshadow was always curious and asking why something was the way that it was. Her thoughts swept through her mind just like the monsters rushing along the thunderpath. "Cross quickly, now." she heard Stoneheart say but she completely froze. "Now?!" She meowed and glanced around and to each of the others. She couldn't see or hear anymore monsters so of course now was their best chance. With that Stoneheart was sprinting across but Doveshadow couldn't make herself move. She was terrified, but then again if she didn't cross now with everyone else she would have to cross alone or stay her by herself. Neither of which she wanted to do. Shaking her head and hissing she bolted out after Stoneheart.

He flicked his tail in greeting to Elk Rush as he joined them before he gulped down more of his vole. He felt something was off today but just shrugged it off as he watched the two other cats exchange, then gave an amused purr of agreement. Little Sky bent his neck to get another bite when he heard Elk Rush's statement. His tone was more of what worried him though. What was he thinking, eating before asking?! Flattening his ears and making himself to as small as he could be as his vole was snatched from in front of him. "I will be Elk Rush, I promise!" Little Sky mewed, sound much more like a kit then he wanted. "I'm sorry, Eclipse's Silence, it wont happen again." He blamed his dream, making him so hungry first thing waking up must have clouded his brain. I'm such a mousebrain today! He would work twice as hard to make up for it and maybe even to make the Hunters proud of him.
