Sootstar smirks a little at the comment of Copperlily, bringing back a memory of the did he did called her an elder... to her face.... when he was an Apprentice... she made him clean ticks off of elders for a week. It took forever to get the taste and smell of mouse bile from his mouth and paws. The smirks soon fades when Driftstar clouded his thoughts again.
"Tell me, what do you remember of Driftstar? Do you know why he chose me to me Deputy?"As far as he knew, no cat knows the true reason why Driftstar picked him. When Sootstar had learn the truth himself it shatter all confidence within himself and learned even the Warrior name he was given turned out to be a cruel sick joke by Driftstar.

She pushed the deputy away from Doepaw as he came up quite suddenly. Turning to look at him while Nettlepaw worked, she sighed. "Doepaw was attacked by a dog during his warrior assessment and Sootstar fought it off after Doepaw was injured. They will both be fine. Sootstar has some bruising and a torn claw, while Doepaw has a deep bite and some bruising. Nothing rest and herbs and faith can't heal. Calm your whiskers," Copperlily said calmly, adding the snippet of sarcasm at the end which lightened the mood a bit. She turned back to Doepaw and gently licked his face as he slowly woke up, almost as if a mother were caring for her kit. "I'm sorry Doepaw, it is just us, Copperlily, Russetnose, Nettlepaw, and Nightpaw. You're in the medicine den. Stay still." She spoke softly and calmly, her voice soothing compared to the commotion going on everywhere else.

As Dewpelt heard the name of the terrible name of the clan's previous leader, her fear faded. Instead it was replaced with pain. Much like many cats in the clan. "In all honesty, I tried to stay away from him. He had no sympathy for when my brother and father were killed, and as far as I am aware, he cared for no one other than himself." Watching Sootstar carefully for a moment, as if looking at him would help her answer to the second part of the question. "I know what I want to say the reason was, but it probably isn't the same as his." Her heart ached to see such a strong and brave cat show so much pain. Something much deeper must have gone on while everyone went about their duties under the reign of Driftstar. It made her feel a flash of anger as she remembered different things, but she kept it down in favor of being supportive to the broken cat in front of her.

"Everyone believes on what Driftstar said to the clan when he picked me to be Deputy. But the real truth, I was easy to control because of my emotions. I didn't have the strength to go up against him. He would attack me whenever I tried to question his motives or pried too much. Heck, my Warrior name was a joke to him... Sootheart. Cause I wear my heart out for the word to see."Sootstar had love the name at first, thinking that it was given to him because of how he cares and loves his clan and would do anything to protect it.. no matter what laid before then.
He didn't think he should bring up the abuse outloud, that something he couldn't talk about even if he wanted it. So much more had happen but he thought it better to keep it to himself. It was up to her and the others cats to come up with their own conclusion about it.
Sootstar hadn't realize his claws were digging into the ground the entire time he spoke about the dead leader. His eyes only looking ahead of him but not particularly focus on anything at all.

The soft grey warrior stood in a shocked silence for a moment. Dewpelt didn't know what to think at first. She knew that Driftstar was manipulative, but she didn't know the full extent. It angered her that he did so many things without anyone truly realizing it. Just from the expression on Sootstar's face, Dewpelt could tell that there was more that he wasn't telling her, but she wasn't about to pry. Her fear melted away for a moment, allowing her to step forward and gently touch the tom's paws to get him to realize what he was doing, and that he could re-injure himself. In hopes of comforting him and getting him to calm down just a little, she moved close enough to where her fur brushed his, and she curled her tail around him. Under normal circumstances, she would be frozen and unable to cope with being so close to the one she had admired for so long. This was different. Watching Sootstar for a moment, she placed her head close to her ear so that only he had any chance of hearing her. "But here you are now. You are strong and brave, and the clan looks up to you. We trust you... " she paused, picking and choosing her words carefully so that she didn't give herself away."Just because he thought that your name was a joke, doesn't mean that it was to the rest of us." Although what she spoke was serious, she had a faint and warm smile lingering on her face. She didn't care what was going on around them, or if anyone could see. Her goal right here and now was to help this broken leader.

Creamflower gets up and follows Goldeneye as she pads towards the medicine cat's den. Upon hearing her say she cant do it, she rests her tail on her back in an attempt to comfort her friend. "Its okay." she said. "Lets give them some space for now. Im sure Doepaw will be okay."

She settled down since Copperlily seemed okay now and glanced down at the wound, unsure of how to clean it. "Should I clean it with... a moss-ball filled with water or just my tongue?" Nettlepaw asked with her voice muffled by the herbs and set them down momentarily by Doepaw so she'd be prepared. She tensed her muscles to reach for a ball of moss or even to lean down and lick the older apprentice's bad wounds. Nettlepaw glanced down at the tom when his eyes opened and he started talking, asking for someone unfamiliar to her. She had her attention turned to Russetnose when he walked in and began asking what happened, waiting patiently. Nettlepaw was becoming overwhelmed and frustrated, just wishing that her mentor would give her an answer before Doepaw's leg got worse. In the meantime, she murmured to Doepaw, "Here, eat the poppy seeds. It'll help with the pain." She slipped two poppy seeds into his mouth.

as she takes up a spot in the sun just outside her den, emberhaze couldn't help but roll her eyes at the sight of dewpelt helping sootstar over to his den. he wasn't even injured from what she had overheard from copperlily's loud voice. such a pitiful excuse for a leader, needing the 'help' of a younger female that was clearly infatuated with him. emberhaze knows darn well that the tom only wanted the grey female alone in his den for a reason other than being too injured to care for himself. it makes her want to gag. the ruddy female snorts and rolls to the side so she was facing away from the dens and towards the forest, angling herself to get as much sun as possible. unfortunately, her peace never lasts around here. just like she knew would happen, aspenblaze wanders over with orders from their 'mighty' leader to track down the mutt they had ran into. the she-cat remains where she is when the tom comes over and tells her to come along, her tail flicking in the only outward sign that she wasn't totally calm. "and what makes you think i'm going to go hunt down some mangy mutt?" she asks in a scarily calm tone, lifting a paw to lick some dust from it. "i don't care what that hairball of a leader says, i'm not going to go out on some suicide mission." a sharp edge starts to appear in her tone as she speaks again, but is carefully controlled. it's not much of a surprise that she refuses to go on a mission, especially one ordered by sootstar. her dislike of the leader wasn't something she hides much if at all.

it was hard for the kit to really trust anyone since her mother had taught her to be wary of everyone. though the black she-cat was talking sweetly and trying to assure her that it was alright, snow wasn't really believing her. anyone could act like this only to attack and kill her once she comes out of hiding. snow gives a hiss when the female disappears and reappears a moment later, spooking her a little. the scent of a dead bird fills the little warren and makes her stomach growl. she sniffs a bit and leans forward to search for the scent, but ducks back when blackfang pushes something towards the entrance of the warren. when the she-cat mentions it being food, snow was very keen on getting it, but didn't want to get close to the others. she swipes a paw forward like a shot and grabs up the bit of bird in a flash. the kit scarfs down the morsel and immediately wants more. she mewls a little in search of more food, but comes up empty.

Aspenblaze's speechlessness began to wear off as he listened to Emberhaze, annoyance quickly replacing his surprise. She was a beautiful cat but had an ugly personality as far as he was concerned. His complements for her were usually shallow and appearance-based and he found no real joy or entertainment in teasing or flirting with her. As such he cared very little for her opinion on the matter of the patrol. In fact, he would have rather gone off into the forest with Copperlily of all cats than her.
So, as she finished insulting Sootstar he composed himself and began to speak again. The tom smiled down at the she-cat, his face morphing into an expression of understanding. "I see. You're entirely right. A beautiful and delicate she-cat like you belongs here in the camp, not out in the forest chasing after a dog. I wouldn't want you snagging a claw or misplacing a single hair out of your sunkissed fur." He mused with a sicking sweetness. "I don't know what Sootstar was thinking either. Any rational leader would keep you close to camp at all times and away from the dangers of being a warrior." His charming smile remained as he took a step closer. His bright amber eyes gleamed down at the ruddy colored female's green gaze."It would be such a shame if you were harmed. The clan would be losing it's most breathtaking beauty." He observed her for a few moments before pulling his face away and turning, letting his tail sweep under her chin in a tender motion. "Stay here in camp then, I'm sure ill manage on my own even without you. Keep your pretty little paws clean and be a doll, let the others know I'll be back." He mused, looking over his shoulder as he began to walk away. "This is a job for a warrior, not you dear Emberhaze." He added before making his way out of camp.

Turning her attention to Nettlepaw as she cared for the injured Doepaw, Copperlily thought over her question for a moment. "Moss would probably be better so your tongue doesn't catch the edges of the wound." she answered informatively. She watched carefully as Nettlepaw worked and as Doepaw laid still. There were a decent amount of cats around her den, and she would have preferred that it were just her and her apprentice, but the den was decently sized and there was enough space for them all. Her tail flicked back and forth again, as if she were waiting for something else bad to happen. As if she could smell it on the gentle breeze that came into the den.

At her words, she nodded curtly in response and grabbed the moss ball. Within the back of the den, there was a small pool of water that gathered from the last rainfall. Nettlepaw dipped the ball of moss into the water and brought it to the apprentice, gently placing it on the wound over his leg. "Sorry if this hurts," she mumbled and set it down when all of the water was gone. Nettlepaw started chewing the chervil and goldenrod, making a poultice together. She placed it on a regular leaf and flipped it onto the wound, gingerly wrapping cobwebs around it.
