Just then, Cottonfern appeared, as if he had known he was being spoken about. He walked straight past Toadflower and Dapplewing as if he had not noticed them. Toadflower found that behavior rather rude, but she did notice the Medicine Cat had a mouthful of herbs, so Toadflower assumed he was concentrating so hard on his task that it was all he could think about. In this case, she held back from snapping at him and let him pass without a word.
"Well, there he is." Toadflower mewed to Dapplewing, indicating the tom with a flick of her tail.

Dapplewing held back an eyeroll. "No worries, Toadflower. I know I slept in, hence me looking to help someone
still around camp. I didn't want to sit around being a useless lump." the large she-cats tone was almost cold as she stood and mewed a short, "See you later." Dapplewing huffed in annoyance and brushed past her clanmate, silently fuming at how rude and irritating Toadflower was being lately, I don't need entertained! she thought indignantly, raising her fluffed tail as she picked a rabbit from the fresh-kill and carried it to a flat, sun-warmed stone. Dapplewing curled her tail around her body and settled down to eat her first meal of the day.

Thistlepaw shot Cherrypaw a sly grin and nodded his head in respect to DeerWatcher. "Of course, I'll go find him if you guys wanna go ahead?" he mewed eagerly, his paws itching to train and challenge his denmate to a one-on-one. Cherrypaw was the only apprentice he ever really liked training with. Frogpaw and Galepaw were alright, but the small tom felt challenged with the she-cat. The other apprentices were like an easy kill; there was no satisfaction to it. "As soon as I can finder Waspfeather, I'll let her know you guys are meeting us at the training hollow and see what she says. I think she's on a patrol and I'd hate to hold Cherrypaw back in her training." Thistlpaw flicked an ear toward Cherrypaw before he dipped his head and padded towards the warrior den, slightly annoyed his mentor had gone out without him.

Indignant at being snapped at, Toadflower, rather hypocritically, uttered her own little irritated huff and stalked off in the opposite direction from Dapplewing. She felt she had done nothing but state the facts, so there was no need for Dapplewing to have been so rude to her. Toadflower failed to realize that the delivery was, in times like these, equally as important as the actual content of her message.
What was worse was that Toadflower found herself alone again, and it upset her. She had a hard time putting her paw on the exact emotion that was troubling her, but it felt terrible, like a fox made of anger and sadness tearing at her heart from the inside. It was all a bit much for the young warrior to understand. All she could figure out was that she wanted to be anywhere but "here", so she padded briskly out of camp and traveled aimlessly, searching for silence and solitude to sooth her misunderstood feelings of rejection that had been her own doing from the start.




(( @drift.: That would make sense, considering how rudely Toadflower treated poor Dapplewing. Someone teach this cat some manners! ))
