Stagstar chuckled. "No, not yet, anyways, Deerpaw. I was mostly just thinking about what the coming moons are to bring, and what will happen at the gathering." He paused, thinking. Without Riverpack or Skypack, it'll be somewhat quiet. I'll miss Blizzardstar's energy, even Froststar's firm common sense. "The gathering's soon, you know," he said, tail wagging slightly. "When was your last one?"

He perked up. He had forgotten about the gathering! Hopefully he could go.
"I guess I didn't miss anything." he chuckled, mostly to himself

"Hmm, that's understandable. I would hope everyone would be civil," he agreed with a smile. Deerpaw continued to gaze at the leader and watched various emotions flood his expression, although he couldn't understand them. At Stagstar's question, he replied, "Oh, it's been a couple of moons. Probably not since I was first made into an apprentice." Hearing another familiar voice although he wasn't able to detect the words, Deerpaw dipped his head in greeting to the greyhound. "Do you have any friends in any of the other packs, Rainfleet?"

Dunlinfur was slightly torn about Deerpaw's request. His nightmare, or vision, was something he felt the need to protect a younger dog like his apprentice from having to experience, but Deerpaw was hardly a pup anymore, and he would need to know about this sort of thing if he was going to take over as medicine dog one day. Dunlinfur would tell him, just not here in such a public place. Fortunately, Stagstar saved Dunlinfur from having to put off his explanation yet again. The Aidi had not forgotten he had also promised to reveal where he had disappeared to last night. He admired how quickly Stagstar was able to bounce back from the ominous message from StarPack, or maybe getting excited over gatherings with Deerpaw was just a distraction. Whatever it was, Dunlinfur was grateful to immerse himself in normalcy while it lasted and he inserted himself into the conversation as well. Wool and serious talks could wait.
"It's pro'lly fur the best not t'get too close to other pack dogs anyway." he pointed out with a good-natured chuckle as he imagined the sort of sticky, comical, gossip-infused trouble that could come of getting too comfortable with outsiders.

He nodded to the Medicine Dog.
"Yeah. Bad things might happen. We don't want to deal with the other packs attacking us because someone lets slip that something is wrong or we are weak. Which we aren't." he added with a huff.

Stagstar smiled. "Deerpaw, what we have right here are two brilliant dogs." He winked at Dunlinfur and Rainfleet, tail wagging gently. Dunlinfur is wise, and of course everyone has their flaws, but Deerpaw will learn, and is learning, much from his mentor. Speaking of which, Rainfleet would make a wonderful mentor, if we ever get the chance to offer him an apprentice. Stagstar chuckled. Windpack had, throughout it's history, a rather strange record with the ratio between pups and apprentices, and warriors. It was if it couldn't balance itself out. Stagstar remembered as a pup that during those moons, there had been so many pups and not enough warriors that each dog had two apprentices, and parents had to train their pups, for there was no other choice. And now, we have just the opposite. Plenty of capable warriors, but practically no apprentices, pups, or queens.

He laughed heartily.
"Thank you Stagstar! But we should we careful! We don't want dogs with big heads running around the camp!" he smiled, wagging his tail. At least the pack had high spirits, even though it didn't really make up for the lack of apprentices and pups.

While Dunlinfur was personally more interested in staying out of trouble than keeping up a fierce reputation, Rainfleet did make a good point. It was important to show the other packs that WindPack was not to be trifled with, especially considering how tense things were between the various packs recently. Those grim thoughts were such a contrast from Stagstar's compliment that Dunlinfur felt himself grow warm under his fur at the unexpected praise. He was flattered to hear that his leader thought of him as "brilliant", and enough so to brag to Deerpaw about it. Rainfleet was quick on his feet with a response, and Dunlinfur was not far behind.
"Speak fer yourself!" Dunlinfur said in response to Rainfleet's comment, shoving him playfully with his shoulder in the flank.
Then he cleared his throat, sobering up from the banter and returning to his prior business.
"Anyway, Deerpaw, we need to restock on wool, so we'd better get going. Stagstar, Rainfleet."
He nodded a polite farewell to his packmates before turning back to his apprentice. It was his way of checking in, giving each dog a chance to speak up if they had anything else to say before Dunlinfur left them to start the day's chores with Deerpaw.

Stagstar chuckled. "You two have a good time! I need to find myself something to do around here, other than ordering you guys around and issuing new deputies, of course." He wagged his tail and shook himself slightly to try and calm his nerves. Despite being somewhat cheerful, Stagstar was somewhat nervous about what the upcoming gathering would bring. Riverpack and Skypack, what has become of them...? The Windpack leader constantly wished to send a party out searching for them, but he had a feeling that neither Skypack nor Riverpack, or any of the other packs for that matter, would find him amusing. Well, we'll just have to wait and see at the gathering, I suppose... To move his thoughts elsewhere, Stagstar turned to his remaining companion, Rainfleet. "Have you eaten yet, Rainfleet? I think in my rush to get out and socialize with you guys I forgot to eat."
