Lillysnap followed the two young dogs out of the camp, tail wagging. The excitement almost completely removed the thought of Moosestar's death from her mind. Almost. Who would be leader? Thunderpack didn't even have a beta to take Moosestar's place. Quickly, Lillysnap shook the sad thoughts from her mind and padded closer to Nightpaw and Daisypup. "What're we gonna do first?" she asked, her tongue lolling. "Hunting or gathering moss?" Though she loved hunting, Lillysnap had to remember not to slip her's and Badgerstrike's secret from earlier that day. No other dog had to know what she had been up to.

“I would like to hunt.” Daisypup said excited to be outside where there was fresh air. “I want to try to bring back something besides moss.” She added, knowing the moss was very important. She wondered what Nightpaw wanted to get done first.

Emberstorm dragged the leaf towards camp, trying her best to gather up any moss she saw along the way. Her vision grew hazy and her muscles felt weak. Why am I so tired? I hardly did anything. She sighed and rolled her eyes. I'm so weak. She tried to push away the negative thoughts and focus on getting back. Her injured paw was starting to hurt and irritate her. As she neared the camp entrance she spotted Nightpaw, Lilysnap, and the new member of the Pack — Daisypup. What are they doing out here so late? Letting go of the leaf, she flicked her tail in greetings. "Hi!" She turned to Nightpaw, "I gathered this bedding for Fallensnow, but I think I'll need to grab some more...if there are more in camp. What are you guys doing?"

He got startled by Emberstorm's voice and turned around. "Oh, we were given a mission to go find moss for Fallensnow by a big fluffy dog. And Daisypup wanted to hunt for fallensnow too."

Lillysnap chuckled. "It was Badgerstrike who asked us to come find some bedding," she said to Emberstorm. "Thanks to you it seems like we won't need to find much more," she said with a small wag of her tail. Eyeing the shepherd warrior, Lillysnap noticed how worn she looked. Despite wanting to hunt with the young pups, she knew it was her job to help the warriors with anything they needed. Cleaning bedding, fetching food for elders, or anything else they needed. "Do you want me to help you get the bedding you have back to camp?" she asked Emberstorm. "You seem so tired," she added with concern in her chocolate brown eyes.

"Oh. No, it's totally fine." She was slightly embarrassed that Lillysnap noticed. "I'm almost there. I can manage. You'll be a much better help hunting with them. Bye then!" She hurriedly grabbed the leaf in her teeth and headed toward camp. Nearing camp, she smelled sadness and death?! She laughed to herself. Wow, you're hallucinating now. But as she entered camp, she immediately realized that she wasn't. Something was wrong.

“Well at least we won’t need much more moss. Still we probably should have helped.” Daisypup said as the pup watched Emberstorm walk in camp. “She seemed tired.” She added sounding worried. She still wanted to hunt and finish collecting moss but seeing Emberstorm so tired had her worried. “Is Emberstorm always so tired?” She asked, hoping it didn’t sound like she was offending the dog. She wasn’t. Daisypup is just a friendly pup who cares about her pack.

Smiling at the trio as they went off, Badgerstrike quickly went back into trying to keep everyone calm in camp and soothe the fears of his pack mates. Seeing the younger she-dog come into camp, he frowned a bit, concerned by her appearance. “Emberstorm, I hope you don’t mind but I sent your apprentice to keep a pup busy. I’ve told them not to stray too far, but the pack isn’t a good place for them all right now. We will need to have a meeting once the medicine dog takes a look at Moosestar, but I found him dead in his den. I’m not sure what caused it, but I didn’t see any injuries on him. You should get some rest, we all should, once the three of them come back I’ll stand guard tonight. I wouldn’t feel right sleeping tonight.” He said with a soft sigh, unsure of what to do but knowing the pack was strong enough to get through this. “We just need to stand strong and figure out what happened to him so we can do whatever we need to make sure it never happens again. If something could kill a dog as great as Moosestar, I fear any of us could be next.” He said quietly, not wanting to have his fears known to the rest of the pack, hoping his calmness in the chaos would help keep things under control.

The curly tailed elder stretched and curled up in her favorite spot for the night as she reminisced on old times when the pack was unshakable. With the chaos it all seemed distant now, but things were slowly settling down. She was proud of her former apprentice for taking care of everyone in such trying times, putting her mind to ease as she drifted off for the night.

As Badgerstrike approached her, she felt dizzy once more. Her heart pounding as the seconds seem to drag before the horrible news. “What!?” Dead!? Shock overwhelmed her. The last few words filled her with even more fear: ‘any of us could be next.’ She couldn’t make out another word. She dipped her head to Badgerstrike. She was grateful for his calm and commanding words. She returned to pick up the bedding and trudged toward the nursery.
