ｆｏｌｌｏｗ ｔｈｅ ｒｉｖｅｒ．．．

no one knew it would end up like this. life in reedclan was always so simple, they never faced problems with loners or other clans... it was always just them. they were peaceful and easy-going cats who lived their everyday lives in serenity. it all started with an apprentice, martenpaw. it was just a cough. but then she'd get pounding headaches. she was weak. she couldn't train and she was so fragile. the medicine cats tried as hard as they could, but they couldn't diagnose her. it was unlike anything they'd ever seen. eventually, her body gave out on her. martenpaw's death was a medical mystery. the clan grieved but moved on, they thought they'd seen the last of it, but they were oh so wrong. martenpaw was only the first victim. then, it was alderfoot, brackenfrost, lilywater, spottedkit, rivermoon... it was spreading faster and faster. the population dwindled, dropping in dangerous amounts with speed. eventually, the clan's numbers were cut in half, and then even further. soon, only a few cats were left. even rabbitstar herself lost her last life to the mysterious disease. the remaining cats were terrified. they felt alone after losing their friends, family, even their enemies. one night, the elder medicine cat, berrystream, had a prophetic dream. the chosen would follow the river, past the mountains, and discover a valley full of flowers that would save the remaining members of the clan. she was to seek out the chosen immediately and send them on their journey as quickly as possible. she knew her time was running up, as she, too, was beginning to become infected. so, she woke up her apprentice the next morning and taught her absolutely everything she could, telling her about the prophecy, and how important it was that she went on this journey. berrystream rounded up the chosen ones and sent them on their way. eight cats were sent into the unknown. eight cats who had never been past the borders of reedclan territory. eight cats who had the fate of their clan resting in their paws.

THE CHOSEN
𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 - the healer ♀
she's the medicine cat apprentice who just got sent out. she's confused and trying
her best to make it look like she's keeping herself together. she's rabbitstar's only
surviving kit and she's been best friends with the stubborn for as long as she could
talk. she's easy-going and very smart, but emotionally distant.

she's the youngest cat to come on the journey, a brand new apprentice with wide
eyes. she lost most of her family to the disease, except for her older brother, the
optimist. she's quiet and mostly stays with her brother, and she's trying her best to
stay optimistic, like her brother, for the fate of the clan. she still has hope.

𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗠 - the vengeful ♂
he's a senior warrior with a drive to power through the journey. he lost his pregnant
mate to the disease shortly before berrystream received the prophecy, and he's
extremely determined to get the cure and get back to the clan as quickly as possible.
he was a popular warrior back at home, especially amongst the ladies. he used to be
best friends with the hopeless, but the journey caused the two of them to fall out.

𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗘 - the hopeless ♂
he was reedclan's deputy before the disease ravaged through the population. he has
so much potential to pull through and become a true leader, but he's given up hope.
he's pessimistic, for a good reason- he lost everything. well, almost everything. he's
had eyes for the healer since they were apprentices. the journey only made him fall
for her harder. he was formerly best friends with the vengeful. he's easily provoked
and most likely to start a fight amongst the other cats if pushed too far.

she does things her way, period. she doesn't mess with anyone and if you push her too
far, she'll snap and you'll regret it. she's a spitfire. she's the yang to the healer's yin,
and the two of them have been best friends all their lives. she lost her family to the
disease, but that's not gonna stop her from trying to save everyone else. she has a
tendency to go too far sometimes, but her heart is in the right place.

her head's always in the clouds. even after losing all of her family and friends, she
remains unfazed. just a distant stare and a dreamy mumble. most of the group has
assumed she's crazy and avoid her, except for the optimist. the two of them have a
very obvious budding romance but neither of them can see it. she actually isn't as
dumb as the group thinks, she's just misunderstood. he gets her, though.

he's very intimidating- but fear not, he's a gentle giant. the brute is a compassionate
tom who just wants to save everyone. he has a bit of a hero complex and always tries
to save the day, even when unnecessary. he used to be close with the stubborn and
the healer, but since the journey started, he's broken off from the two of them. he's
become pretty good friends with the vengeful and has a bit of a crush on the stubborn.

he's just trying to keep a smile on his face and shelter his sister from the harsh reality
of what's really going on. he knows the situation is horrible, but he's trying his best to
distract the two of them from it. the optimist is gentle, humorous, and easy-going. he's
the older brother of the innocent and friends with the dreamer, although anyone with
eyes can see that he has a huge crush on her.

PLOTS
the healer x the hopeless - the only thing driving him on this journey is her. he's had
eyes for her since they were apprentices, but never said anything because of her focus
on her duties as a medicine cat. throughout the journey, he begins flirting with her, and
the two of them get closer and closer before realizing that feelings have been bubbling
up the entire time. but what happens when they return to reedclan? he's the future leader
and she's their only medicine cat left.

the dreamer x the optimist - they're pretty much each others' only friends. everyone
thinks they're both crazy for their oddly optimistic views on the journey and their ability
to find hope in such dire circumstances, but they just get each other. there's a very
obvious romance between them, and as the journey progresses, they start to realize it.

the stubborn & the healer - these two have been best friends since they knew how to
talk. they lost everything except for each other, and now, they're closer as ever. they're
quite opposite of each other, with the stubborn being very fiery and easily provoked,
while the healer is very icy, calm, and easy-going. the stubborn is very protective of the
healer, while the healer keeps the stubborn from lashing out too much.

the vengeful & the brute - they ended up bonding over their mutual hatred of the
hopeless, and become like brothers as the journey goes on. they understand each other's
losses and motives to finish the journey, but they have their own love of bothering the
hopeless for fun. childish? yes. but these two don't really care how many fights they pick.

the hopeless vs. the vengeful - they used to be best friends... but what happened? no
one really knows, but they just got distant and grew to hate each other. they'll get in
several fights throughout the progression of the journey, but will they ever make up? or
will their friendship be severed completely?
