Eelstep padded away from the Lean Calico Tom, fetching his freshly killed Squirrel. He held it by its bushy tail as he headed back to the campsite. Eelstep dropped his prey in the fresh kill pile and sat down in the shade, his ears flickered about as he silently watched his camp mates. He was eager to bid in on many conversations but was able to hold himself back.

"I'm fine," she snapped at the red she-cat, her tail lashing - but her pelt smoothed swiftly, shaking her head. "There is no need to keep me from my duties. I am strong and well - and should I fall prey to the rogues, it will be a consequence I accept. I trust Martenfang to lead the clan well; that is why I chose her as my deputy," she mewed. "I appreciate your concern, but I cannot be put any higher than any of my warriors. Especially considering some of you would even wish for my death." There was humorless laughter in her voice, her icy blue eyes blazing with a cold flame.
She knew how many of her warriors would sooner send her to be slaughtered than save her, yet it hardly made her feel small. No, it made her furious; what mouse-heart would refuse to obey their leader? One might consider it a flaw in the warrior code, but it was still part of it for a reason. How can I lead cats who refuse to follow?

Wordlessly, she snorted to herself, gesturing with her tail for her patrol to follow. They continued on for a short while, until she finally picked up the faint scent of mouse, and she paused, crouching down smoothly. Eyes narrowed, she followed the tantalizing scent, paws gently gliding over pine needles before she spotted her prey - and she lunged, squarely landing on her target and viciously nipping its spine as though it were a rogue beneath her paws.

Thank you, StarClan, for this prey. We need every morsel we can get to continue fighting this war, she thought, lifting the mouse before she turned her head, spotting Wolfstripe's fur just a few tail-lengths away in the underbrush. Her eyes narrowed once more and she dropped her prey.
"Wolfstripe. How good of you to join us," she remarked, realizing she had just taken his catch - and feeling a spark of satisfaction. Good. "You may as well finish your 'hunt' with the rest of us. Come along."

lilypool wrote:male | 26 moons | warrior | heart set on dawnblaze | location: camp | tags: liongaze, then dawnblaze

Humorlessly, the cream and silver-furred tom snorted.
"That's proven far too true right now," he muttered bitterly. Why must there always be someone at 'fault'? Even so, surely Darkfrost was at fault for leaving the clan in the first place. Had he not left, Ivybriar would not have needed to sneak out to see him. Her revelation that she was expecting his kits would not have been something to dread -- and yet there his clanmates were. His mind continued to spiral into such circles; it felt as though he were one of the only warriors with half a brain in his head, and that half was being turned to mush by his own frustrations in the way that his clanmates were handling things. Coming to understand... He wished. And yet, his common sense told him that not even StarClan could bless every cat in the world with sympathy and understanding. It came and went with every warrior.

Lilypool glanced over, watching Liongaze stare up at the sky with determination heavy in his voice and blazing in his eyes - and he felt a surge of satisfaction, relief, to see that someone who wasn't himself or Dawnblaze actually having faith in keeping Ivybriar safe. I knew I could trust him. "I couldn't have said it better," he mewed firmly. "I'll die before I let Darkfrost take my sister's kits. They're HazeClan, through and through, and my kin before that. If they let her be dragged off by those rogues, then...then.." He let out a breath. "Are we even warriors? Refusing one of the most vital rules of the code? Would we become nothing more than a band of rogues ourselves?" He felt it was almost blasphemous to say, but he hated the crippling genuine concern in his voice. What...what would I do if they took her? The fact that he had no answer inside of him made his heart twist with almost...fear. He had no idea what the future would hold for him if that happened.

He couldn't help but purr as Liongaze agreed to speak with Ivybriar, and he nodded, turning to pad toward his sister and Dawnblaze.
"Thank you. I know she'd be happy to know that you care about her well-being as much as we do," he added as a final private comment, before he flicked his tail and bounded across the camp, headbutting Dawnblaze's shoulder playfully.

"Are you bothering my sister again, Kittypet?" he asked, mischief glimmering in his blue eyes. "C'mon, let her eat in peace. You've done your job." He felt a rush of appreciative affection glimmer beneath the surface at the fact that Dawnblaze had convinced Ivybriar to at least eat something - oddly enough, the queen refused to eat more than a small morsel before the others ate - for once. The fact that he cared so much, really. He shoved down those bright, fluttery feelings stubbornly, though, instead drawing the fluffy tom away from Ivybriar and the approaching Liongaze - with a final, grateful look at the pale warrior - and mewed, "let's go share something, now that she's eaten. There's a hunting patrol out right now, and I've had my eye on one of those mice Moonshade brought back.."

Lilypool led Dawnblaze across camp, tail flicking his shoulder playfully as they walked. He couldn't help but feel a little happy that he was spending some time alone with the fluffy tom; despite having grown up alongside him with a rivalry ongoing, he felt much more for his old friend - stupid, flighty feelings that made him feel like pouncing after moths like a kit again. He felt foolish...but he liked the feeling. He would never, ever dare spill these feelings to Dawnblaze...but he would enjoy his company for however long they lived. But--

The cream-colored tom froze as fear-scent washed over his senses, his ears pricking as he whirled around and spotted Ivybriar in misery - she was... She's begun to kit!
"Oh, no..." he whispered, pelt prickling. When half the camp was out on patrol? What if rogues attacked!?
"Where's Swanflight?" he called in alarm, his tail lashing in distress. He seemed uncertain about what to do - did he rush to his sister's side, or keep his distance in case she needed room to breathe? Did she need to be herded to the nursery? Anxiety rippled down his pelt, and he looked at Dawnblaze. "Should one of us fetch Fawnstar?" he said uneasily, his paws fidgeting in restlessness.

Relax. Relax. His ears flattened. How would rogues know about it so soon? It's fine. We're fine. His fur felt fluffed out, and heat seeped through his pelt in embarrassment that he, the normally calm, composed Lilypool, was looking so frazzled.
"What...what do I do?" he croaked at his friend, feeling helpless. "How do I help her?"

    ivybriar wrote:female | 26 moons | queen | future romance w/ liongaze | location: camp | tags: liongaze

Ivybriar shuffled her paws, nodding when Liongaze encouraged her to worry more about herself. I know he's right, she thought, ears flat, and she let the warmth in his voice seep into her fur. She relaxed, looking up at him with gratefulness glimmering in her eyes.
"You're right," she mewed softly. "I just wish these kits didn't have to come with a price to pay." My bond with my clanmates, at least. Still, her pelt smoothed out and she kindly tipped her head, shifting to let the sun's rays slide like silk into her fur to sooth her unease. Though, Liongaze was thankfully doing the same.

She tipped her head up to the sky, watching the clouds lazily drift on by. "Sometimes I worry for them," she murmured. "More than sometimes. I'm so scared that our clanmates will stare at them with hate and wish harm upon them. Some will blame them for getting to live their lives out when their apprentices and kits before them were forced to die." Her eyes closed tightly. "I wish I could take up all of the hate to come and keep it for myself, so that they don't have to live in a world that doesn't believe they deserve to exist," she mewed, her voice choked with misery. "Some of us may welcome them with open hearts and loving purrs, but what about the voices that drown all of that out, Liongaze? I know that negative words cut so much deeper than positive can heal." Distress was spilling off of her in waves, and she couldn't quite identify why she was able to spill these fears out to this tom, when she could never even make herself crack even the slightest bit to her brother or Dawnblaze. She felt awful, shaking her head and lowering it once more.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't make you have to answer to this," she sighed quietly. "I know I only brought this upon myself, and to them." Oh, and what if they hate me for it, StarClan? Would you allow me to suffer that much? she thought forlornly. She felt his warm gaze on her belly, and still yet, she felt a small, growing curl of hope. Maybe the clan would look past the kits' parents, their past before they were even born, and welcome them.

She forced herself to push down her anxiety, meeting his question with warmth.
"I have," she said softly, her tail curling around her belly lovingly. "...but I can't be certain. I'd love to see them first. Then, I can give them names worthy of bearing." Good names that would be held with high regard, remembered for being fierce warriors or great medicine cats. Maybe even a beloved queen that helped restore HazeClan to its former glory. She felt her chest swell with pride, with hope, and then -

    And then...
Ivybriar let out an unpleasant sound, feeling her belly clench with pain. The queen gasped, struggling to her paws, before they crumpled beneath her and she let out a pained groan, her ears flattening.
"I...the kits...I think there's something wrong..!" Her normally soft voice was twisted with pain, and she looked up restlessly at Liongaze. "I-I think the kits are coming!" Fear flooded her pelt, eyes wide as she realized what was happening; oh no, not now! What if he finds out? What if he comes to take my kits away from me?

moonshade wrote:female | 36 moons | warrior | possible romance w/ smokefang | location: camp | tags: smokefang, then darkfrost

"Sure," the slender warrior purred - before she halted, turning as she heard Ivybriar's groan. "...oh, my," she mewed simply, cocking her head. Moonshade stayed still for a few moments, as if pondering what she should do to get rid of Smokefang so she could make her escape - before she simply turned and bolted out of camp swiftly, smoothly weaving through the trees to cover ground as quickly as she could. Darkfrost will want to know this. Whether Smokefang followed or not, she honestly couldn't care less; maybe she'd prove to be useful if she did.

The blue warrior sprang over the border markers and rushed toward the rogue camp, her mind flashing the entire time; oh, how lovely this was. She could feel excitement sparking beneath her pelt at the thought of finally getting to sink her claws into her clanmates, proving her allegiance to her new leader. She'd certainly get those kits for him, no matter who she had to tear through. It'll be a bonus if I get to shred that miserable little queen myself, she thought smugly, before letting out a hiss as a thorn stabbed at her pawpads during her rush.

She staggered to a halt in the rogue camp, practically trampling Darkfrost. She quickly composed herself, fur flat as she dipped her head and balanced on her three uninjured paws.
"The camp is unguarded. Fawnstar is on patrol with four warriors.." she began, before her eyes glinted with rare excitement. "...and Ivybriar has begun kitting."

    aspenflame wrote:male | 42 moons | warrior | crush/mate open [bisexual] | location: camp | tags: morningheart

Aspenflame settled down beside the young warrior, his tail curling at his side with a nod of his head, and mirth in his eyes.
"So they do," he murmured. "Wise words from such a young warrior." Though, he supposed that injury of hers had something to do with her losing her youth; she could hardly be a foolish young cat with such a thing hindering her. He felt sympathy for Morningheart, but no pity; she had the strength to finish her training, after all. There was nothing to feel sorry for, especially if she felt no pity for herself.

"Do you believe there will be a calm to come, though?" he asked, feeling out her opinion on the matter. She was still young and almost flighty; surely there was a hint of optimism still lurking within her. I fear there will be none, unless the clan learns to trust each cat in their dens once more... he thought to himself cryptically. It was a bit of a heinous thought, but it still sent trouble spiraling down his pelt. "It seems as though some of our warriors back no one anymore. Not even Fawnstar. If we cannot follow our leader, then what has become of us?" He shook his head.

"Often I am the one who has wisdom to carry for others, but right now...I'm unsure," he sighed. "There is just too much. Warriors who act like rogues. Warriors who openly challenge the authority given to them. Warriors who restlessly refuse to pick a side. And then...there are the remaining few, which I am one of, who still follow our leader and trust her judgment. Personal grudges have no fight in this war. Those are reserved for when we have the luxury of lives, food, and time to have them."

She wanted to say that everything would've been alright, but finding that right words without hesitating just felt wrong. Morningheart's ears flattened a bit, her yellow-green eyes flickering over to the older tom before looking at the ground beneath her paws as a gentle meow reached her voice. "I've lost so many of my past denmates...I mean there's gotta be a point when they will stop, right..?" She meant that in a hopeful manner, but tried to reassure herself that was the case.

It was had grown hard for her to dare even speak about the subject without getting her voice shoved to the ground. "I honestly don't know what to think...I want to trust Fawnstar so badly, but I also don't think that she should make Ivybriar stay. If the molly wishes to leave...Then she should be allowed to...but I dunno, it's just a lot to try and figure out...And everyone taking sides so quickly is only making it worse." The molly let out a small sigh, her fluffy tail curling tightly around her paws.

xxxxxFeral took small bits of the mouse while he sat beside the quiet molly, figuring that there wasn't going to be much of a conversation going on between them. His tail curled and uncurled while doing so, thinking about the amount of hazeclan apprentices that he had sank his teeth into just to please the black tom. "I could care less honestly what happens. Hell, I'd even leave this place in a second if I really wanted to." The brown tom meowed as he stopped eating to flash his amber eyes at the molly.

"You think they want to fight with them...That's not the case, they want to kill as many as they can, sink their teeth and claws into every piece of flesh that they can. The only others who'd want to fight them are Darkfrost and the cats that are coming on over to us from that stupid clan." Feral spoke this casually with a cruel laugh tugging at his lips, he was one of those cats who, indeed, had a pleasure for killing souls, but he played by his own rules and nobody elses.

”Moonshade?” Smokefang was startled by the sudden dash the blue warrior made. What’s going on? Smokefang wondered as she dashed after the she-cat.

Moonshade was further ahead than Smokefang, but she wasn’t hiding her sent so she was easy to follow. However, as she followed the cat, she noticed another sent getting stronger. It was a sent of unfamiliar cats, cats that weren’t of Hazelclan. Smokefang begun to slow down, realization dawning. This was the rouge camp. But perhaps they would think of Smokefang as another traitor, like that damn Moonshade is.

I’ll slit her throat among with all the rouges involved with the apprentice murders. Smokefang thought as she stepped into the rouge camp.

“Soo... Moonshade this is what you’re hiding?” Her words had a slight edge to the them. “You better explain things before some cats end up dying.”

        EAGLEWING
Tom || 32 Moons || Warrior || Crush;; Open || Location;; Hazeclan Camp || Tags;; Skyspring
Eaglewing's day had started out normal, but as he stayed within the camp for the whole day so far, as he wasn't assigned on any patrols at the moment. As time passed, he had gotten more and more uncomfortable and bored. The tom was never the type of cat who was fine with "relaxing," always wanting to find something to do with his time, to feel productive. Once he considered going out to the forest to do some hunting, despite it being a bit dangerous to do with the rogues in mind. With all of these things in mind, he noticed the blue-eyed tabby, Skyspring, flop down with her meal, looking a bit distressed. No, he never was very social, but perhaps it'd be smartest to check in on her. He tentatively approached her, awkwardly clearing his throat as he stood before her. "Skyspring? Are you doing alright?"

It was a silly question for him to ask considering all of the hardships Hazeclan had been facing. The lives that were senselessly taken away over one individual, the stress of never knowing when they would strike next. However, it was the best thing the socially awkward tom could manage to say.

        HONEY
        She-Cat || 32 Moons || Rogue Fighter || Crush;; Open || Location;; Rogue Camp || Tags;; Open
Honey had been relaxing by herself within the camp, for the time being, knowing that others were out and about hunting, she didn't feel like it'd be smart to stir up prey by adding herself to the mix. So, there she lay in the sunlight, warm beams falling onto her golden tabby pelt. She was content. Company and comfort, two things just a few moons ago, she never thought she would have in her life. In the midst of this relatively calm day, she suddenly could see Moonshade hurling herself into camp with a lame foot and some urgency in her expression, nearly falling over Darkfrost in the process of speeding into camp. Moonshade began to say something to the rogue leader, but she couldn't quite hear exactly what she said, even as she strained to listen. Her golden-colored eyes remained set on the pair, her interest peaked by this franticness to the other she-cat.

Not to mention, soon afterward, a black-and-white she-cat who reeked of Hazeclan came tromping into camp as well, having a very hostile posture. From this moment, Honey leaped to her paws with her claws unsheathed, fur raised all along her spine, with her eyes trained on this unknown clan cat. She didn't quite attack yet, in case Darkfrost wanted to do something, but she stayed on the ready. Occasionally, she did glance over her shoulder in Darkfrost's direction, as if waiting for the moment he tells the rogue fighters still within the camp to attack this bold intruder.

Though she hadn't done much yet this morning, her stomach growled and reminded her that she hadn't eaten. I suppose I could grab a bite and then hunt, Willowlight thought to herself. She padded over to the fresh-kill pile and noticed that Eelstep had just placed a squirrel on top. It looked really good, but she knew she should save it for a queen or a cat with a higher rank. Glancing at him, she dipped her head shyly and wasn't sure how to greet him. She didn't talk to the others much, including him. "Uh, good morning," Willowlight said.

The clan had been showing more activity at the borders, and Nightfall was unhappy with this. He currently paced along the invisible barrier and glared over the other side, waiting for cats to show up for patrol. What's with their stupid patrols anyways? Why are they so hungry for power and territory? Nightfall thought to himself. He unsheathed his claws and slowly raked the ground, making three gashes where no cat was allowed to cross to either side. They can't do anything about that. If anything, they'd just be raising another fuss over absolutely nothing actually important. Nightfall left the border and began heading back to the group, sick of going over the thoughts of the clan cats.

Eelstep’s gaze drifted to the She-Cat as she spoke. “Yes, Good Morning to You to” The usually rash young Tom seemed to be more focused at the moment, his broad shoulders held high. His ears flickered like radars, one facing Willowlight the other aiming towards Ivybriar. Something wasn’t right, were the kits coming already. His fur started to bristle, anything could go wrong, what if Darkfrost invaded. Did he know his kits were being born into this blood soaked world?

      dawnblazetom26 moonswarriortagged: lilypool, swanflight
Dawnblaze was ready to say something to Ivybriar when he felt Lilypool's forehead on his shoulder and he glanced up, looking over at him. He rolled his eyes at the silly nickname (it had been over twenty moons--one would think Lilypool would have let that nickname be by now, but at this point he was certain it was staying until they were in the elder's den), but he relented to have himself be drawn away, even though he glanced back worriedly at Ivybriar. His worries calmed slightly when he saw Liongaze approach her. She would be safe, at least, with him. I wasn't bothering her! But... I... alright, I suppose.

He padded away with Lilypool, brushed up against the thinner tom. He didn't know how he felt about Lilypool; to be fair, Dawnblaze didn't really know how he felt about most cats, because feelings were weird and strange and hard to decipher, but Lilypool especially so. They were good friends, and Dawnblaze would give his life to protect Lilypool or Ivybriar, if need be. They were the closest cats to him, after all. But Lilypool... there was something about him. Something that made Dawnblaze's pelt warm even in leaf-bare, and his presence calmed him in some sense, even though Lilypool was oft to irritate him.

So, uh, Lilypool, I-- he began, but he cut himself off when he breathed in the scent of fear. He realized the same as Lilypool a second after. He froze, tail bushing out with surprise at the action, before he looked at Lilypool. Go, get Fawnstar! You're a quick warrior--she needs to know! He barely noticed Moonshade escaping through the entrance, but that wasn't his top priority; Ivybriar was in danger. I'll go get Swanflight.

Dawnblaze raced to the medicine den, paws losing traction for a moment before his claws dug in to stabilize himself. He didn't waste a moment before he dipped inside, the oddly-scented air of herbs meeting his nose nearly immediately. He didn't waste any time, though, and called for Swanflight, meowing, S-Swanflight! Ivybriar--she's kitting. We need your help..!

russetwindshe-cat32 moonswarriortagged: fawnstar, coppertooth, kestrelpool, wolfstripe
Russetwind had wandered a few tail-lengths after Fawnstar had caught scent of prey, looking for her own. Her ears swiveled back when she heard Fawnstar speak and heard her speak the name of Wolfstripe. Her tail flicked and she looked back, sighting the senior warrior that stood before Fawnstar, and she saw for a moment the look in his eyes. She stared, and it was gone, and she turned, shaking her head. It's hard to believe they were denmates all their life--you'd think they'd have clawed each other's pelts off by now, the red warrior thought, her whiskers twitching. She scented the air again, stepping forward a few more paces. Beyond the scent of the mouse Fawnstar had just killed, the air seemed... almost empty.

I don't think there's much prey in this part of the forest. She smelled again; she could smell rogue-scent. It wasn't recent, but it was definitely present. I bet those flea-bitten rogues ran them all off. With a stench that sharp, I don't blame them....

wolfstripetom52 moonswarriortagged: fawnstar, coppertooth, kestrelpool, russetwind
Wolfstripe's haunches raised and shifted, ready to strike upon the mouse--and then the ferns before him rustled and Fawnstar herself leapt before him, right onto his intended target. He heard the mouse squeak a moment before she bit into it, and his ears folded back against his head; that had been his prey, not Fawnstar's. He raised up, tail held stiff behind him; he dared not lash it at the moment, quelling his irritation to hide it in his chest, his pelt remaining smooth. Despite his apparent calmness, though, his eyes flashed with anger as she spoke to him.

A part of him wanted to growl his defiance and continue on his own way, and he might have even dared if three other warriors didn't stand in Fawnstar's wake. His yellow eyes cast briefly over Coppertooth, Kestrelpool and Russetwind's pelts before they returned to Fawnstar. Of course, he said stoically, but beneath his words ran venom. How foolish of me to have gone alone with so many rogues about. I would gladly join you all. How foolish of you to have come at all. The rogues would eat you alive if they knew the leader herself had gone this far from camp.

Hm, she quietly mused. I cannot say I am too fond to stay. But, my sister... she does not like cats, but that does not mean she does not like her company. She is... odd. Jaxi's tail twitched, and she sat up, licking her lips. She couldn't help but quietly wonder what kept Feral around, but she did not ask. What others did not ask her, she would not ask of them. And what they asked of her, she would still not ask of them, because she didn't particularly care in the long run.

You are right. They do seek blood. Perhaps too much. Her gaze fell onto the entrance, and she saw Moonshade's blue-gray pelt slip through the cave entrance. The she-cat's ice-blue eyes held firm attention to her, watching as she sprinted up to Darkfrost. Jaxi heard the meow as well as anyone else in camp; Ivybriar was kitting, and the camp was unguarded. Her eyes narrowed; was this it, then? Would Darkfrost take this chance as the final blow against the Clan? Following Moonshade was a black-and-white Clan cat, whose pelt rippled with hostility. ...Intriguing.

You'll get your chance. We all will, Piper purred confidently, sitting down a pace away from Spice (despite her apparent confidence, she could see how ready the she-cat looked to sink her claws into whatever was closest, including Piper herself), her tail curling over her paws. She opened her mouth to continue, but she was cut off by a commotion to her right. She turned her head as two cats swiftly entered the camp; one, being Moonshade, and the other... a Clan cat. Piper's hackles immediately raised slightly and she stood. What had some Clan cat wandered here for? Piper heard the reason for said commotion only a breath later and her stance heightened.

This is it. This is what we've been waiting for. It's time to strike! she thought, her claws unsheathing with eagerness. The hunt for HazeClan's submission was on, surely. It would just take a single word from Darkfrost before the Clan would be goners. It seems now that chance will be reality. Speak of the devil, right? Ha!

Rose's distracted train of thought came to an abrupt halt when the offensive scent of a clan cat filled the camp, her grey fur rising instinctually. It appeared that the foreign she-cat had chased Moonshade, but for what reason. That question was shortly answered, when the warrior's meow of Ivybriar's kitting and the Hazeclan camp being left unguarded rung out.

The healer's breath began to quicken; she didn't have enough supplies prepared for a battle and there would undoubtedly be an array of injuries she would have to attend to. Cats are going to die over this, Rose realised, a deep feeling of worry and sadness setting in. The she-cat's solemn grey eyes glanced over each rogue present, for what could be the last time, before a gleam of confidence shone through. She couldn't stop a battle from occurring, but she could do her part.

Rose jumped to her feet and bounded towards Jaxi and Feral, no longer caring if she interrupted their conversation. "I need you both to quickly search the camp for cobwebs, we'll need them to stop bleeding," the rogue explained, her tone leaving no room for negotiation. "Piper and Spice, there's an ivy patch just by the cave entrance, grab what you can." She realised that the four were likely eager to sink their claws into the enemy at the slightest nod from Darkfrost, but she needed this to be done first. "It'll only take a few moments, hurry."

---dawn rose above the tops of the pine trees, painting the sky above a soft pink, chasing away the starlit void of the night. for a few moments, the forest remained cloaked in pale fog, a calming stillness before the rising sun awakened the forest's inhabitants. right on cue with the first ray of pale morning sunlight, the birds began their morning song, twittering away to their forest audience. their symphonies reached the ears of swanflight, who answered with a groan and tugged his ears downward to muffle the chorus of chirping. swanflight was granted a few more moments of peace before activity within the camp began to pick up. a heavy, drowsy lid rose for a brief moment, revealing a liquid amber ocular that blinked away the haze of sleep. finally, swanflight brought himself to his paws. his back arched in a stretch while his torso brushed against the refreshing, cold stone flooring of the den. lean muscle rippled beneath his groomed pelt as he strode over to the perfectly organized stock of herbs he kept towards the back of the den where it was cool, yet dry enough not to damage the precious herbs. a furrowed expression fell over his face as he noticed that a few of the stocks were running low. he could've sworn they had been adequately stocked before dawn. the thought of a thief among the clan was shocking and swanflight hoped that it was a mere slip of the mind.

---shaking his broad head of the thought, swanflight stepped out of his den to be greeted by the sights and sounds of the hazeclan camp that buzzed with activity. he greeted several of his clanmates with a gentle dip of his head as he padded out of the camp entrance, the scent of the forest filled his pink nose. traces of woodland prey and the sweet smell of lush trees were a welcomed change from the stale scents of the foreign rogues that threatened their clan. the silence from the rogues was alarming to say the least, but swanflight cherished the pause between attacks. before, he had spent day and night treating wounded cats that had fallen victim to the vicious rogues. each apprentice that had been brought into his den never left to see the light of day again. despite the wounds being impossible to treat, swanflight always felt uncertainty gnawing at the back of his mind. swanflight would be tarnishing his deceased mentor's reputation to be doubting his teachings. his cherished memories with hollybreeze kept him confident in himself and hopeful that the clan would recover from the loss of their youngest members.

---the scent of burnet brought him out of his thoughts. the herb was an excellent source of strength, especially for mothers during their kitting. following the scent further away from the camp, he soon spotted the herb in a patch of morning sun. swanflight was hesitant to venture out this far with the threat of rogues looming overhead, yet he had already journeyed this far without confrontation. not wanting to stay longer than he had to, the medicine cat nipped the herbs at the roots and gathered them neatly with the other minor herbs he had amassed over his outing. swanflight began his journey back to the camp, the hair along his spine raised slightly as he kept himself alert for any movement. with his nose overpowered with the scents of the mixture of herbs, he relied on his eyes and ears to keep a tabs on the dangers that lurked in the forest. every rustle of a bush made his hackles raise, hastening his steps into a cautious run. a calm washed over him as the camp came into his view, his hackles laying flat against his pale cream pelt as he brushed past the entrance. careful not to spill the herbs he spent all dawn collecting, he carefully leapt his way up the small boulders to his den and parted the ferns that hung above the dark entrance.

---swanflight had just begun to organize the herbs when the sound of dawnblaze's hurried pawsteps brought his amber eyes to the entrance of the den before the warrior had even stepped in. after hearing the tom's explanation, he rose to his paws, "let's not create more panic than we need to. we don't need ivybriar under anymore stress and risk complicating the kitting." his long feathery tail swept across the floor of the den as he turned briskly on his heels and gathered the herbs he needed to assist ivybriar in her kitting. he didn't allow the worry that brewed in his chest to show through, knowing that he had to remain the calm within the chaos if the new mother was to survive the grueling process. with his mouth occupied with a bundle of herbs, he motioned for dawnblaze to follow with a brief flick of his tail. the tom pushed passed the gathering cats as he approached ivybriar, his eyes steady pools of amber as gently pressed his pink nose to ivybriar's flank to comfort the queen, "chew the raspberry leaves, it'll help with any bleeding and pain you may experience. we need to move you to the nursery where you'll be under better protection." he turned his broad face to dawnblaze and nodded, "i need you to gently carry ivybriar to the nursery. be careful not to disturb her belly, if there's any contractions on the way there, we'll have to stop." his voice was unwavering as he gave the young warrior orders, confidence blazing through the warmth in his eyes as he nudged the leaves towards the queen.
