softpaw copied her mentor, going in a circle just like her, the pads of her paws very lightly touching the ground. her ear flicked, and her snout lifted into the air so she could try and see if any prey was nearby. she thought she caught the scent of a mouse, but she wasn't completely sure.

Pigeontail had stopped and watched her apprentice mirror the moves quietly, and gave her a nod with a proud gleam in her eye. “Perfect, Softpaw,” she mewed, flicking her ear. “One last thing. Keep your tail as still as possible, if you flick it at all, it could hit a leaf or a stick and cause noise.” she instructed with another single nod. “Okay, you can do this, draw the scent in and follow the path, I will wait right here for you.” she told her then sat down and calmly wrapped her tail around her paws. She could smell the faint scent of a mouse, it wasn’t far. She didn’t want to follow after Softpaw in case it would make her feel pressured.

Ravenstrike sat on the edge of the clan camp clearing and watched the activity going on around him quietly, his tail jerky tucked around his paws and placed gently on top.

softpaw smiled up at the warrior, taking heed of her instructions. her tail flicked slightly as she looked in the direction the scent was coming from. slowly and carefully, the apprentice began following the scent, and soon she came up behind a plump mouse. her eyes glistened with excitement, and she started moving even closer, keeping the pads of her paws light on the ground. almost there.

she lowered her body, so her belly was just touching the ground, and put all of her weight on her back legs, before pouncing. with one swift strike of her paw, she had the mouse pinned on the ground. she quickly bit into the mouse's neck, killing it, and took a moment to look at what she'd done. she was proud of herself. picking the mouse up, she scampered back to her mentor, and set it in front of her. then, she sat down and looked up at the other she-cat. "pigeontail- i did it!" she mewed in triumph.

Pigeontail waited patiently, her tail still tucked neatly over her paws as she waited for Softpaw to return. As she heard a rustling in the brush beside her, she got to her feet as she knew it was her apprentice. She smiled as the she-cat came into view “Very well done!” she purred, and pressed her nose to her apprentice’s forehead. “Let’s get your prey back to camp,” she mewed as she got to her paws.

softpaw purred as she was praised by her mentor. "yes, lets go!" the apprentice jumped to her paws, picking up the mouse in her jaw and beginning to bounce back towards camp. she couldn't wait for people to see what she managed to do. it was about time she did something on her own for the clan - she felt so grown up!

Pigeontail led her apprentice back to camp, feeling very proud of the younger she-cat. She remembered feeling the same way she felt in that moment and it made her feel good to spread it. She padded back into camp and flicked her ears as she looked around the camp.

on the way back to camp, softpaw had a smile stuck on her maw. every so often, she looked up at her mentor, thankful for everything she had taught her so far. adrenaline rushed through her; if this was how it felt to hunt, then
she couldn't wait to do it as a warrior - then she could even catch more than one thing and feel even better.

as they got back to the camp, the she-cat scampered over to the fresh-kill pile, then back to pigeontail. the apprentice looked up at the other she-cat. "thank you, pigeontail." she said sheepishly.

Ashstrike followed after Skyheart with a small flick of his tail. "So where should we begin?" he asked as he glanced around.

"Don't get too rough when playing," Lakefur meowed to her kits when she noticed that Nettlekit had reinitiated the play fight again. She shook her head slightly as the two kits tumbled towards the nursery entrance. "They never listen."

Ivykit grunted softly when her brother pounced on her again. She flicked her ears to show that she had heard her mother's warning before trying to get Nettlekit away from her.
