Vertigo got off the bad and padded to the window. Placing her paws on the sill, her eyes caught a flash of red and white through the trees. She jumped away from the window and trotted out the cabin's door and into the trees, sniffing and looking around. She eventually caught up with a red and white husky and followed it at a safe distance.

Garnet watched as Alphess put the used eating things into the pool-maker on the counter and scrubbed away at them until they were shiny and clean again. Beta patted the top of her head and then ran off the catch his favorite pictures on the staring box. Alpha was nowhere to be seen, but Garnet did not worry much about him. Once he came home, Alpha did not usually leave again until the morning. Since everyone was busy, Garnet had plenty of time to contemplate what Vertigo had told her while she eat. Garnet's claws clicked across the slippery linoleum as she traveled to her food bowl. The same hard, bland, dry pellets greeted her every day and today was no exception. She crunched them up without complaint, lapping at her water every now and again. Garnet didn't know what to think. If the rumors were true, she should have nothing more to do with Vertigo. Then again, she was never one to judge someone by stories. Garnet did have it pretty good here. Sure, she was lowest link in the chain and the food was unappetizing, but at least she could count on having something to eat and a warm place to sleep. Safety... or freedom? Which was more important to her? Garnet did not know. What she did know was that whatever she decided it would be life-changing and there would be no going back. She needed more information before she could decide properly. Didn't Vertigo tell her exactly how to get to her territory? Garnet could sneak away tonight, meet Vertigo, and see for herself what it was like out there. If she didn't like it she could always return home the next morning. Simple as. Having created a plan of action, Garnet gulped down the last of her dry food and began searching for Alpha. She would occupy herself by watching whatever he was doing until her pack went to sleep.

Koda padded on through the woods,panting slightly. Stopping at a shallow puddle,she lowered her head to drink. After a few seconds she lifted her her head and glanced around her.She had an uncomfortable feeling that something was watching her.The fur on the back of her neck rose. Calm down,she told herself.It's probably just a squirrel.

She lowered her head again,lapping up what was left of the tiny spot of water. A crow cawed at her from a nearby branch and she growled at it,showing her white fangs.Get away,bird.

The war-torn Collie growled at Mooie's comment as Vertigo left. His eyes narrowed as he turned his gaze away from the alpha to the the stray who was currently trespassing. His black and white dappled fur stayed still, only moving in the wind white his eyes flared a fiery amber. "Get out of here, before we show you the way out." Knight's voice now carried the authority, and his voice was seductively deep, but his body language told otherwise. His long claws churned up the hard packed dirt. His tail was high now, with the alpha gone, it was his job to take over and the dogs that had surrounded Mooie now stood at attention. Waiting for his command.

Koda turned her head from the crow and looked through the trees,thinking she had heard a noise. Taking a few steps forward,she realized she could definitely hear someone-and it sounded like a dog.She cautiously slipped closer to the source of the commotion.When she could easily overhear what was going on she stopped and peered through the bushes.Her eyes widened as she saw a large black-and-white dog,with countless other dogs around him.Crouching down,she stayed hidden in the bushes,ears flat against her head,hoping to remain unseen.

Vertigo saw her chance. "Horrible thing they're doing, those dogs," she said casually. "That big brown one just wants some food."

Koda jumped,startled by the dog's voice."Who are you?"she asked cautiously,keeping her voice down. She stood up and lifted her ears,studying the dog in front of her.She kept one eye on the pack through the bushes.

"Just a friend," Vertigo said, lying down. She took a stick in her mouth and began to chew on it, holding onto one end with her front paws. "And who are you?"
