Silverstrike found that talking to the ginger tabby was quite refreshing and she was able to release that tension that had coiled up inside her for the past moon. She was truly relieved to have something to do to focus her attention on besides the chaotic mess that were her thoughts towards her father. So as Robinsong steered the conversation away from the more or less morbid topic and towards...her and Elkstride? The silver warrior did a double take, not quite certain if she had heard the molly correctly or if her head was beginning to fill a little too much with thoughts of the clan's new leader. Her mouth opened but no words came out and after this happened again Silverstrike paused before an awkward laugh slipped through her maw. "Sorry about that, I was just a little shocked to hear that question. You are the first to actually bring that up" the Maine Coon's shoulders shook with gentle chuckles, her silver eyes lifting to meet Robinsong's.

After a heartbeat she figured she should respond to her clan mate's curiosity, though if she had to admit it, finally speaking aloud of her feelings towards Elkstride and the possibility that those were mutual was exciting. "Um, Elkstride and I...nothing's really been said to be official but I won't deny that what I feel for him is...well beyond anything I ever thought I could feel for another cat" Silverstrike's gaze floated from Robinsong's friendly face to the spot where the tabby in question had previously been seated before he'd left camp. It felt good to finally speak aloud of her emotions and she was glad it had been with Robinsong of all cats. The molly was simply a very kind-hearted cat with a strong heart and an impressionable demeanour. "If I'm spilling my feelings, then let's hear about you and Ravenclaw. Don't think I haven't noticed the way you two are around one another. Your hearts practically beat out of your chests" she purred in laughter and felt her own heart swell as they talked. She was really thankful to be having such a mundane conversation with a friend, at least something that wasn't a flare of drama like everything had been a moon ago.

Amidst his laughter and whisker twitching, the siamese tomcat noticed Frostfang pad over and pluck a mouse from the pile of prey, returning her polite nod in greeting. "I can believe it. Maybe you've just gotten slower these days, Thunderheart" he teased the molly beside him with a snicker, gently knocking her shoulder with his paw before Thunderheart leaned and bumped shoulders with him. At her curious comment he directed his blue gaze in the direction he'd seen Firepaw scamper off in and indeed there the two apprentices were, looking quite cozy. "Huh, I hadn't even noticed" he replied and turned his gaze back towards Thunderheart only to see her eyes were directed elsewhere. When Adderbite finally put two and two together after following the direction of her gaze to the grey tabby who'd joined them, the lanky tom tilted his head back with a light laugh, a smirk forming on his maw before glancing over at Thunderheart. "My, my. There is definitely something in the water" he muttered just loud enough to be heard. He'd meant it to tease the molly though as he thought about it, he truly wondered if these cats were actually drinking something that made their feelings sprout into uncontainable flowers. If that was the case, why hadn't he felt anything of the sort? First it was Elkstride and Silverstrike - that could be seen from a mile away, then there was no mistaking the small bundle of emotions that was Lotuspaw and her quite obvious feelings for Eaglepaw and now Firepaw and Tigerpaw and Thunderheart and Frostfang. "Perhaps I'm just immune to it" he joked under his breath as he shfited and looked at Frostfang who had pointed out the two apprentice who appeared to be heading out on a patrol together. Shaking his head with a laugh the siamese warrior flicked his tail in good humour.

A smile lifted the corners of the small white molly's mouth, her yellow eyes shining with warmth towards Pinethorn's words. He truly made her feel better whenever she got too absorbed into her own feelings. Talking to him really helped to ground her and make her realize the reality of things before she even realized it herself. "We wouldn't want that. These whiskers are my best feature, didn't you know?" Lotuspaw joked, lifting a paw to elegantly stroke her whiskers as if they were on display. Her small shoulder shook lightly with the remnants of her laughter and she found herself nodding along with Pinethorn's words. He was right, things were beginning to settle down now that the mystery had been solved and Elkstride became leader.

Her small ears shot upwards at the sound of her name, and turned her head to see her friend Sunpaw trot towards them. "Sunpaw! I was wondering where you'd gone off to" she purred with bright eyes, pleased to be in her close friend's company once again. The two of them were total opposites though that's why Lotuspaw presumed they got along so well, they both brought so much into the friendship and believe it or not she had actually found herself with a couple moments of pure sass now and then. No doubt courtesy to being around Sunpaw all the time. "You are more than welcome to...um, yack...over here with us" she meowed, her sentence ending in another bark of laughter at the ginger apprentice's choice of words.

Tigerpaw
Tigerpaw eagerly took the first bite, purring at the taste. When she looked up however, she noticed Firepaw jerking around and cocked her head in momentary confusion. "Oh, flies are terrible," she said, wrinkling her nose. They were always flying around and being pests. "Here, you take the next bite," Tigerpaw said, motioning to the mouse. She looked up as Morningflood came to collect her for a patrol, then grinned in excitement as Firepaw said he would love to come with. Who was she to complain about her best friend coming along with her?

Wolfheart
He listened sadly as Birchstar spoke about how his daughter refused to acknowledge him anymore. He hoped that she would quickly see that the old tom would soon go to Starclan and that she only had so much time left with him, but her pain ran deep and it could take a long while for her to forgive her father. Wolfheart looked up as his apprentice approached with a large squirrel, pride flowing through him as Runningpaw offered it to their elderly former leader and received a well deserved congratulations for it. "A wonderful catch indeed," he purred. "He certainly lives up to his name. One of the fastest cats I've ever seen! Though sometimes I think he's trying to be my mentor." The big grey tom paused as Birchstar's mood changed faster than a striking adder and the elderly tom left his side. Against his better judgment - he knew well enough to leave his leader alone less he put himself at risk for retaliation - he cautiously approached him. "Birchstar... Runningpaw would never put you at risk. I can even take a bite of it to show you it's safe. You need to keep your strength up and eat. Who else would tell the clan stories of what it was like when you too were a young warrior?"

Laetificat wrote:Rainpelt
She watched through eyes narrowed against the bright sun as Elkstride made his way over to one of their clanmates. Likely sending patrols out it seemed. Rainpelt yawned, arching her back in a long stretch before settling and tucking her paws under her as she laid down. All through that, she never lost track of Birchstar. The guards were a good idea, as was the fact that the senile old tom hadn't attacked anyone else as of recent, but it did nothing to soothe her fears that he may still lash out and seriously injure someone.

Wolfheart
Wolfheart opened his mouth to speak, wanting to protest that Birchstar was an elder and needed to be fed first, then closed his mouth and looked at his paws before giving a reluctant nod. "As you wish, Birchstar," he murmured, turning away. Perhaps he would be more willing later in the day and if not then, tomorrow at the very least. Birchstar had lived through countless leafbares before; there was no reason skipping a meal would harm him too much. Or at least, that's what Wolfheart told himself. There was always tomorrow to coax the elderly tom into eating though.

    I. molly II. twenty moons III. warrior IV. no crush or mate
LOCATION. camp MENTIONS. birchstar, wolfheart TAGGED. -----

    ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
the young feline had for the most part, been off to the side the majority of the day though she did not really know why. there did not seem much of a situation where she was needed or thought she would be nor was she keen on self inviting herself on things. her green eyes surveyed the camp, watching as some soon left and others stayed, though she supposed only to guard birchstar. he seemed to be deteriorating with his age and it was rather unfortunate for these things to happen to cats the older they got. while she knew not the cause of his behavior, she was beginning to blame it on his age. older cats tended to be forgetful and moody but birchstar's case was a little different and though it intrigued her, she knew not of his ailment.

she watched as the once proud leader refused food from another warrior, though she knew not why except for the fact he just wasn't hungry. she sighed, deciding to focus her attention elsewhere but not really knowing what to do with herself for now. she settled down not far from the warriors den, tucking her paws neatly underneath her before giving her chest fur a few good licks to keep it pressed down. the day was going rather slow for her but she had no one to blame but herself for that. she supposed that she should have gone out on a patrol with someone but they were all out now, sure, she could go alone but that was not exactly any fun for her honestly. briarpool tended not to like being off on her own so this was definitely a rather unusual day for her. she was not seeking out company nor was she volunteering herself for anything which was highly unlike her. maybe this would be considered one of the off days that some cats had where they were nothing like themselves. the brown tabby let her tail curl around her before she let her gaze settle in front of her, simply keeping herself entertained with her own thoughts.

tom 88 moons in camp elder tag; lotuspaw, sunpaw

Pinethorn huffed at Lotuspaw's joking and nodded in return to Sunpaw as the other apprentice joined them. He hummed. "Mmm... yes, yacking. That's what were doing." Pinethorn raised a brow at the two young she-cats. They were friendly with him, and he was grateful for their company, but there were some things about the younger generation he would never understand. He turned his attention to Sunpaw. "What have you been up to today, Sunpaw? Have any tales of your exploits to regal to an old cat like myself? I fear I might wither away from boredom with the company I have to keep--" He paused and looked to Lotuspaw. "You not included, of course, dear. I don't know where I'd be without you."

Pinethorn tucked his paws close to his chest, turning a keen eye back to Sunpaw. His other clanmates were not really boring in the slightest, but being stuck in camp sitting on his tail all day made him feel useless. He should be doing something. But there was nothing he could do, not without causing himself to be more of a burden to the clan. He couldn't even hunt properly anymore without making a mess of the kill. The next best thing he could do, he figured, was listen to the troubles of the dear apprentices and give them the advice they needed to hear. Words didn't count for much, at least not in Pinethorn's mind, but at least it was something.

she-cat 34 moons in camp mentoring slightpaw tag; russetheart

Sighing softly, Hawkstep looked back to her apprentice. "I hope so, at least. She deserved to be named a warrior moons ago. She's learned so much; there's not really anything else I have to teach her. I just wish..." She trailed off, giving her tail a quick lash. She wasn't an open speaker, never really voicing her emotional opinions deeply. With another huff of breath, she started again. "I just wish she would see that, too. She needs to learn to stop doubting herself; she has so much potential, but she keeps holding herself back." Hawkstep swallowed, jerking her gaze to Russetheart briefly before staring studiously at her paws. "Sometimes I can't help but wonder if I messed up somewhere along the way... if I didn't push her hard enough."

Realizing she had said far more than she meant to, Hawkstep raised her chin and cleared her throat. She shot a side glance at her guard partner, wondering if the tom would call out her brief moment of weakness. She couldn't afford to doubt herself like that; she had trained Slightpaw to the best of her ability, and it was Birchstar's age and instability that had delayed her apprentice's ceremony. Nothing more and nothing less.

Runningpaw: location, returning to camp : feeling, proud : tagged, Birchstar, Wolfheart, Wolfrunner

Runningpaw scowled after Wolfrunner, blaming the medicine cat for Birchstar’s sudden turn to a sour mood. He felt a flicker of guilt immediately after, however, one that he pushed aside. It wasn’t Wolfrunner’s fault Birchstar was unstable nowadays, and Runningpaw couldn’t really deny that Birchstar was an awful patient to have, but the old medicine cat could at least try to be more gentle with the elderly tom.

The surge of pride he’d felt prior to the snap crashed harshly and Runningpaw couldn’t hide the flicker of horror and betrayal that he felt when he realized Birchstar was implying that the squirrel was tainted. He sent a distressed look over towards his mentor, words stuck in the back of his throat, unable to defend himself by himself. He would never. When Wolfheart stepped up for him, Runningpaw hung his head, fixating on his paws, wincing at Birchstar’s reply. It wasn’t like he hadn’t half been expecting it, the rejection, but it still hurt.

He heard the shuffle of paws and noticed Wolfheart getting up. Runningpaw heaved himself to his paws, bounding after his mentor without even a glance in Birchstar’s direction. “So, um, do you have anything planned for me today?” The lithe tom asked Wolfheart, forcing the peppy tone he usually took. “I was kinda hoping for some battle training.” He admitted, barreling on without waiting for a response, turning hopeful eyes on his mentor. Runningpaw was close to completing his apprenticeship, and had been learning some advanced battle moves. He’d been practicing real hard on the last set of tricks and was eager to show his mentor how much he’d improved since their last session.

Softwing: location, in camp : feeling, at ease, pleased : tagged, Dawnlight, Amira an' Sandtail (mentioned)

Wolfheart
Truthfully, he had planned to test Runningpaw on his hunting ability, though the squirrel his apprentice had caught showed that there was really no need for that. And besides, if battle training would cheer up his apprentice after Birchstar's outburst, then so be it. "Battle training? I didn't know you were a mind reader now," Wolfheart joked, leading his apprentice towards the camp entrance. "Next thing I know, I'll be calling you Runningstar." Hopefully the light-hearted humor would take Runningpaw's mind off of what had just happened. The hero worship was strong in that one, Wolfheart thought to himself. If only age hadn't damaged Birchstar's mind, then the old tom would be the same leader that he too had looked up to when he was an apprentice. "We'll spar a bit in the beginning that way I can get a feel of how well you can execute the moves in battle. After each match, we'll rest a bit and I'll point out some things you might need to work on, but after we completely finish sparing, I'll go in depth on how to fix them if they're a persistent problem."

"Raimfaw! Raimfaw!" Darkpaw's mouth was muffled by the new prize she held in her teeth. Her eyes were huge and as round as almonds. With her fur fluffed out on all sides, she galloped towards her mentor from the other side of camp. When she was within a foxlength, the young apprentice got into a crouch and sprang onto his back.

morningflood { leaving camp. birchstar. }
>> she/her. warrior. thirty-two moons.
>> white long-hair with gray tabby accents and blue eyes.

Morningflood had been returning from her outing in the form of a patrol when the guards for Birchstar switched. She blinked, remembered this was what she wanted, and steeled herself as she walked over to him. Apparently the other guard hadn't shown up yet.

When the old leader got to his paws and declared where he was going, she nodded passively and trailed behind him delicately. She didn't pause, even though she had plenty of reasons she could have. She was focused now.

The white cat shadowed Birchstar professionally, and didn't offer any words of conversation. She doubted he'd want them anyway. Instead she made her presence known by slowly walking into his frame of view. He was headed straight into the heart of their territory, and an idea was starting to formulate in Morningflood's mind. There was a poetic justice in what she had planned, if it ended up working.

rainjaw { camp. darkpaw. }
>> he/him. warrior. thirty moons.
>> dilute calico with blue eyes.

Rainjaw had been peacefully standing in camp, trying to decide if he should head out one more time before it was truly night. He had watched his sister leave, trailing dutifully after Birchstar, but was interrupted by a flying ball of fur.

He had been feeling somewhat peaceful, but at the sudden attack, he froze on the spot and crouched down, pure instinct taking over. That is, until he realized that his attacker was merely his apprentice, and that she had even announced her presence. He shook her off his back easily and then darted his gaze to her dark coat and namesake.

"Are you alri- wait, what is that in your mouth?" It wasn't an accusatory or curious tone. He knew Darkpaw was a pawful of a cat and was mildly exasperated but mostly just confused. Why did she insist on bringing him bugs?

Darkpaw rolled off him and got to her paws--- shaking the excess debris off her thick coat. She spat the bug down in front of his paws. "Itsa beetle!" she squeaked and bounced around Rainjaw like a rabbit. "I caught it by the fresh-kill pile. Can I be a warrior now?" her voice was hopeful as she sought out affirmation from him.
