Race didn't bother to ask the she-wolf why she had followed him. Instead, without turning around, he said, "No." He sniffed the base of another tree, wrinkled his nose in disgust, and asked her, "What's your name, anyways If you're going to tag along, I don't want to have to call you 'that she-wolf'."

"Aries." She hesitantly got closer, not wanting anymore injuries from this wolf. She didn't respond to his refusal to help, putting her muzzle to the ground. She knew that her old pack would be very angry that she'd deserted them, and it wouldn't be long until Beka realized what had happened. She truly looked worried, and slightly lost. All her life she'd been a pack wolf, and she wasn't sure how well she was going to do as a loner. I'll be killed on sight... she thought, shaking her head.

"You can go back, you know," said Race, padding around the she-wolf in a circle. He was inspecting her, running his eyes over her, trying to see if she would be an asset or a hindrance to him if she staid. "They won't have noticed you're gone yet. If you want, you could kill a deer and cover yourself in blood. That way it'll look like we fought and you killed me." He came around and looked her in the eyes again. "Fame, glory, maybe even a position as second-in-command next to Duro."

Beka turned to Duro, carefully guarding the sorrow in her eyes. "Do not go so far as to think I am weak, Beta," she said coldly. "However, kin is kin. I owe loyalty to my dead sister, even though she broke our Laws. Now that the debt is paid, you will see that I shall not be so kind to my outcast nephew in the future."

Race noticed that Aries was not snarling at him, or biting at his heels to walk faster. He slowed a bit, testing her, to see what the she-wolf would do. He didn't know who she was, although she seemed to be about his age.

Duro rolled his eyes. "Well I'm not going to always keep calling you because you left all by yourself to wander as usual!" He snapped. "And since when have you ever said thank you for anything we do to help you! I couldve easily just left this stupid pack because of what you're nephew told me!" Duro was getting sick of being only a beta to her. It was as if she was always cold toward him and others no matter what and it was getting on his nerves. He turned and stalked off without another word.

"Duro!" snapped Beka, not in the mood to apologize. "I didn't thank you because I know of your unfounded loyalty to your pack. I needn't have worried that you would go off with Race- you are too noble, too proud of your heritage to do such a cowardly thing. I needn't thank you for proving to me something I already knew. If thanks is what you want, however, I will gladly give it. You deserve praise for such courageous actions in the face of a traitor, one too cowardly to enter the camp while I was here."

Duro stopped then turned around to glare at her. "No beka! You're wrong! I'm sick of being yelled at day and night by you! You're always so snappy and rude! Why would I be proud of that!" He yelled.

Beka shrugged, not returning his yell with anger. "Because you're not loyal to me. I have never been foolish enough to suspect you of that. No, you are loyal to your pack. I know- I was once where you are now. I hated my sister, especially after I found that she had betrayed her clan by taking a Rifle Ridge male for a mate." She was using her storytelling voice now, calling to her pack, being charismatic in the way that roused anger, passion, loyalty from those around her. It was how she had become Alpha, after all. Not by fighting, or killing- no, simply by talking. A battle of wits. She lowered her voice, as if speaking only to Duro. "I hated my sister with a passion- she was a know-it-all, a good-for-nothing she-wolf with no loyalty to the pure blood of her pack! I killed her, but not because of hatred. I kill her, aye, and her litter, but not because of anger. I did it because I was loyal to my pack, loyal to my blood." She bowed her head, cunningly ashamed. "I only regret that I was forced to. She needn't have taken Ferris as her mate. She could have saved herself the punishments that fall on the disloyal. The punishments set down by our ancestors." Now she looked up at Duro again. "The Law is the Law, Duro, and it keeps peace between the two packs. Without the Law, and the peace it provides, we would be nothing. Mere animals, living on the death of others."

Ren smiled and began grooming his back. She soon finished then licked his cheek. "We'll just have to wait and see." She replied softly. She hoped everything would go well too. She had a good feeling it would though, knowing she had Barren with her. And she had promised to except the consequences for his actions, if there were any. He said he'd be with her too which made Ren feel comfortable and safe. But, she knew how soemtimes an alpha male will run around and mate with other females too, only to get the pack larger. Ren sighed. She knew it was normal for them to do that every now and then....but she judt didn't like the idea of it for some reason. If he did that, what if she became unimportant to him? What if he got so used to mating with other females that he doesn't even care for what happens to her? She frowned a little at the thought.

Barren smiled. "I can't wait, I don't want to wait." he sighed but a small smile was on his face. He wanted the best for Ren and didn't ever want to think about anyone else, but his pack was so small. In one way this was a good thing, meaning he only had to feed few mouths and didn't have as many responsibilities but how would they fair under attack? How would this small pack survive the future and keep the lines going for many more generations? He could and he wouldn't not if Ren felt uncomortable about it and if she didn't want him to. He saw her frown and had a strong feeling he knew what she was thinking about. "You know I won't if you don't want me to, don't like it I mean.." he paused watching her carefully, "I wouldn't do that to you." he finished.

Ren looked at Barren, silent for a couple seconds. How the heck did he know she was thinking about that? Was she really that easy to read? She sighed softly and looked at him. "Im sorry Barren....I'm not comfortable with it....you picked a selfish female for a mate...." Rens voice wasn't sad and neither was her expression. Instead, she grew calm once again and her eyes looked greatful and happy as she licked his cheek a couple times affectionately. Why would she even worry about that anyway? He always seemed to understand her and she liked that. Ren smiled softly, "I love you."

Duro sighed. "We already know. And if you want your pack to stay safe, I suggest you quit wandering off and stay here more often because I'm not going to do this whole stupid Race thing again." he said simply before turning and walking away, calmed down now.

Barren smiled and licked her back. "I love you too and I understand why you say that. We'll survive, we could adopt?" he joked but a spark flashed in his mind, stray wolves and puppies wouldn't be too bad if they were that desperate. But now that it was calm and qiute they didn't need to rush into things like that. He glanced outside, "Sleep now honey, you need to rest, please.?" he murmured gently licking Ren's cheek.
