But we've got to stay together." she said. The blue-grey she-cat seemed older than she really was, the weight of her losses weighed heavily on her. Even though she didn't like to admit it, she wasn't handling it well.

He couldn't even remember if he knew about them as a kit. Or if he ever thought about them as a kit. They'd both died at birth while he and Rainy had survived. Much like Squirrelkit and her siblings..

I assume a patrol will be sent out to look at the damage, so you hopefully won't be looking for long."

Briareyes's eyes showed visible confusion at the tom's words, her mouth opening for a second before she realized what he meant. With a quick glanced over to her two, safe, kittens she responded in a broken whisper,"I- I'll go see her." She gently woke up Volekit as she moved to stand. Her eyes glazed over with sadness as she stared at Treekit and Volekit for a second and turned to leave.
Volekit let out a sleepy yawn, glancing around to realize his mother was getting up and going somewhere. "Treekit, where's Briareyes going? Is she going to get Swiftleap? Can we come?" The small tom hadn't seen the look in her eyes when she glanced at the two, and he'd missed the suddenly somber tone to the air. With a few jumps the kittens attempted to get closer to his mother but stopped short. "Briareyes, why aren't you taking us?" He got no response.

Dustfang squinted for only a moment before sighing and nodding,"Yes, some help is better than none." He let out another cough, this time less violent than his last but still alarming. "My paws feel like they're bleeding or peeling off", he attempted to pick up a paw to show the shecat for a moment. The paw was covered in burns, bad ones at that. He continued for only a second or two more, not to overwhelm the cat. "And I can hardly see, I think I have some ash in my eyes." The senior warrior couldn't even feel the burns on his underside or the fact that his whiskers where burnt a little, all he could focus on was breathing and trying to point out what he though was the most pressing problems. A tight feeling filled his chest if he talked too long, causing him to gasp for air for a little.
