The Exile wrote:six cats. thunderclan was a clan no more. they were barely
more than a group.the almost-empty camp was covered in
a thickening layer of snow, two sets of tracks barely visible.
slatekit and cypresskit were at the age where they were big
and nearly apprentices, so no one could tell which cat had
stolen the dark ginger kit.
begoniapaw woke up shivering. he flicked snowflakes off his
whiskers just as a gust of wind blew into the apprenticeโs
den. the white faded to dirt and then stone at the denโs
entrance. he sighed and got up, shaking off his pelt lightly
before emerging into the clearing. the meager pile of prey
was completely white; only a red feather stuck out.
โit was nectarpaw!โ someone cried out when palestar was
barely out of his den. snowflakes immediately began to dot
his dark fur.
โcutstripe!โ nectarpaw shot back.
begoniapaw padded up to the medicine den to see what
was going on. he peered over cutstripe to see, eyes landing
on applesnow, cold on the ground with a slit throat. slatekit
had been pressed against nectarpaw, but cypresskit was now-
here to be found.
โiโm voting nectar,โ crowflight mewed from a distance, curlin-
g his tail around his paws. โnectarpaw! nectarpaw!โ two cats
cried this time.
โit has to be him,โ begoniapaw said. โthe killer is clearly con-
fident.โ he shot a glance at nectarpaw.
palestar locked eyes with the pale brown apprentice. โiโm
sorry, nectarpaw,โ he said, sounding insincere. every cat see-
med so apathetic now. the killings and exiles were routine.
nectarpaw snarled and looked back at his fellow apprentice.
he looked like he was about to pounce, but begoniapaw step-
ped to the side. anxious of what was to happen if he did any-
thing, nectarpaw fled, tears refusing to form in the cold and
a different type of shiver rippling through him.
the leader turned his gaze back to his clanmates, eyes betra-
ying
little sadness. if nectarpaw wasnโt the murderer, they would
just repeat everything one cat at a time until one remained.
most of the cats were generally resigned to their fate.
โbegoniapaw, stand under the highledge,โ palestar rasped.
the clan was already gathered in the clearing. sending some-
thing was about to happen, they all floated over to stand or
sit closer to the highledge.
โi, palestar, leader of thunderclan, call upon my warrior an-
cestors to look down on this apprentice.โ he seemed to rack
his brain for a moment. โhe has trained hard to understand
the ways of your noble code, and i commend him to you as a
warrior in his turn. begoniapaw, do you promise to uphold the
warrior code and to protect and defend your clan, even at the
cost of your life?โ
โi do.โ
โthen by the powers of starclan, i give you your warrior name.
begoniapaw, from this moment on you will be known as beg-
oniastorm. starclan honors your intelligence and resilience,
and we welcome you as a warrior of thunderclan.โ
as shouts of the new warriorโs name - quiet with the lack of
cats - erupted, palestar bounded down the highledge and
stopped in front of begoniastorm. he laid his great head on
that of the younger catโs, who paused for a moment before
licking palestarโs shoulder. begoniastorm felt another shock
of cold as he separated from the leader, leaving his chest and
head open to the elements again.
far away, the scarred molly mother had sent a cat after the
newly-exiled thunderclanner. her thunderclan agent had met
with her the night before, bringing with them cypresskit, and
telling her that an exile would happen soon. the cat mother
had sent - a blue-grey molly named scarlett - was stationed
fox-lengths from the thunderclan camp, head poking out from
behind a tree. she had followed nectarpaw, trying to convince
him to join the family with her pretty looks and persuasive vo-
ice, but he was staunch in his loyalty.
โwhy waste such a strong fighter? they clearly donโt want yo-
u..." his fur bristled and he darted away. โthey do! when they
find that murderer, iโll come back and gather all of my exiled
clanmates and rebuild thunderclan!โ
scarlett snickered, waving her tail. she approached him, pur-
ring, โtheyโre gone, nectarpaw. they were killed! your killers
leave no stones unturned. join us. you can be strong, stronger
than your thunderclan who are so weak one cat has been tak-
ing them down.โ
โno!"
โthink this through, nectarpaw!โ
he burst through the low-lying branches, scattering snow and
tackling scarlett. she cursed and pushed him off, giving him a
face-full of freezing snow. he was shocked for a moment, le-
tting her slash across his back. nectarpaw cried out and buc-
ked backwards, sending her to the ground but she sprang up
again. they fought for long, the sun rising higher in the cloudy
sky. tired yet determined, the tabby tom had scarlett right
where he wanted. he leaned down to bite her throat, but at
the last moment she flailed and scratched the soft belly of her
opponent. he coughed up blood and stumbled away, eventu-
ally toppling over. the snow was stained as they both lay
dying, products of their cause.
five cats.
the killer's resources are growing, thunderclan! beware!

The Kill wrote:the killer sat by the fire, eyes narrowed and focused on it.
they were so close... their claws itched. thunderclan was
almost annihilated thanks to them. their head whipped to
the left at the sound of little claws on stone. kit claws, m-
ost likely. "mother!"
"how many more cats, thunderclanner?" she queried. her
paw looked slightly burnt, and the kit accompanying her
was covered in a dusting of ashes. her pale tail was wrap-
ped around his small body.
"five. we got rid of an apprentice, but scarlett was killed
by him." the cutthroat frowned and turned slightly towar-
ds the flames.
mother sniffed at the announcement.
"i'd like some fire," the cat said, getting to their paws and
walking to it without mother's permission. they were bol-
der.
"of course!" mother followed, watching them take a bran-
ch and plunge it into the tower of flames. after some long
heartbeats, it emerged alight. the cat didn't even bother
to grin at their premier.
cypresskit looked up at mother. "when can i do that?"
"soon." mother ran her tail down the kit's back affectiona-
tely. the cat felt like her child, but she had to focus on
cypresskit when they were gone - which was more frequ-
ently now that thunderclan was nosediving.
the cat marched through the nighttime forest, surroundi-
ngs illuminated. their grimace turned to a smile as they
stuck the torch into the snow, adding extra force to even
barely dig it into the frozen ground.
the moment they moved away from the fire, they felt cold
and had to fluff their fur up. just thinking of plunging th-
eir claws or torch into a cat cause a warm sensation to
course through them, along with a renewed grin. they en-
ntered the camp, glancing around before slinking into the
warrior's den. they stepped over a sleeping cat and poked
their target. he shot up, eyes wide. "what?"
"i-i found a body... but it's not nectarpaw or anyone. i thi-
nk someone's trying to scare us."
the guard's brow furrowed, curiosity piqued. he sprung to
his paws, falling for his two-faced clanmate's tricks. "whe-
re?"
"follow me," they replied, leading him out of camp. the
darkness obscured the face that they kept hanging low.
the pair walked silently, cold emphasized by the night. the
snow crunched under their paws like the leaves of the last
season.
the killer suddenly dashed forward, claws digging into the
snow and kicking it up like pebbles. incredibly unnerved,
the guard took off as well, spying the signature glow all
too late. he skidded to a halt, but the other cat was alrea-
dy wielding a flambeau, grinning sadistically.
the guard froze, eyes wider than seemed possible. his
claws slid out, hackles raising. the fire cast an ominous
light on the two thunderclan cats, claws and eyes glinting.
"no!" the guard finally cried.
the killer shifted the torch in their maw, saying, "you have
a choice, you know. join me, eliminate the blemish on the
forest that is thunderclan."
the guard stared at the fire. "no," he reiterated. the killer
launched themselves at him just as he closed his mouth,
fire crackling. the guard felt the heat on their face and sh-
ied back, instinctively lashing out and swatting the torch.
it was pitched out of their mouth, landing on the ground
with a thud. it fell at the base of an ash tree. the killer
gaped at the scene as, despite the cold, a flame erupted
from the tree.
the killer spun around and snarled at their clanmate, roar-
ing, "you son of a bitch!" they pushed him backwards befo-
re he could react. they felt flames at their hind paws and
the scourge slammed their paws down, pinning the guard.
"i'm going to watch you burn, not matter how."
the fire spread upwards, and soon enough the branches
were orange and yellow with not leaves but the very dest-
ructor of so many lands. the killer lunged forward, pushing
the guard to the tree. the smoke barely bothered their
nose, but the guard immediately started to cough. fire li-
cked his pelt and he cried out, but he was pinned awkwar-
dly enough that he couldn't scratch the murderer. he sna-
pped at them, but only tasted smoke between his teeth.
the killer's eyes - slits - widened slightly when they spott-
ed flames climbing their legs. regardless of their training
and daringness, they fell back, rubbing their body into
the glittering snow. the guard took the distraction as a
chance to escape, throwing himself onto the chilly snow
and dashing away at the first moment he felt truly chilled.
the guard guarded themselves, thunderclan, but watch
out! a wildfire has begun!
