As they neared the camp, Riverstar heard commotion coming from the nursery. He quickly trotted into the camp, trying to take in what happened. He spotted Honeystorm standing next to Dewstorm with blood-stained fur. Forgetting about Eagle and Foxberry, he hurried over to the two, questioning, "What's going on?"

Drawn to the horrid event like everyone else, Emberpatch cautiously padded over to where he could see inside the nursery from a safe distance. Why hadn't they noticed the snake living in there before?

Tigerpaw's ears pricked up as she heard the yowls from Dewstorm and the scene turned chaotic. Anxiously looking around, trying to get a glimpse of what was going on, she accidentally bumped into Swancreek. "Oh, I-I'm sorry," she apologized quickly. Noticing the terror on the queen's face, she asked gently, trying to calm her, "Are you okay? Do you need anything?" Most cats would be surprised to hear Tigerpaw trying to soothe the queen, as she was usually sassy and careless.

"T-there was a s-snake in the nursery. I-It killed Leafkit. It would've killed me and Dewstorm too if Ministries hasn't gotten us out of there." I shook my head. I had calmed down a bit, but not totally. "I-I'm fine. J-just startled."

Leafkit... gone.... Tigerpaw never really knew the little one, but the thought of a kit being killed felt like a stab in the chest. How did a snake get into the nursery without their knowing? "Wait, what about the snake? - what happened to it? Is it still in there?"

I shook my head once more. "No. Honeystorm killed it. " I told the apprentice, who was being surprisingly nice.

Mintstripe shook his head as if that could clear the grief. He gazed sadly around the camp. Shocked cats emerged from their dens, mourning the loss of the Clan's only kit. He padded up to Riverstar and quickly informed him about what had happened.
"Who are you?" asked Mintstripe surprised as he noticed there was a small tom accompanying him, along with Foxberry.

Moonpaw's eyes snapped open as Dewstorm's cry pierced the air.
"Stormpaw, wake up!" screeched Moonpaw as she sprang out of the apprentices' den. Halting, she saw Leafkit's limp body surrounded by half the Clan, who were murmuring anxiously. "What happened?" Moonpaw demanded as she reached the center of the camp.

"Oh, Mintstripe, this is Eagle," Riverstar quickly said, knowing that the young rogue would probably be too frightened to say anything. "He ran away from his former Clan, and I wish to take him in. He would be my apprentice." He hoped the medicine cat wouldn't object, as there was already so much drama in the Clan.

Tigerpaw felt irritation rising in her. She wanted to sink her claws into that snake, end its life because it ended one of her Clanmates'. Maybe she would do some hunting later to help her calm down. She stalked away from Swancreek, eyeing Honeystorm's blood-stained fur. Taking her attention away from the panic about the nursery, she looked around for her mentor Crowtooth. She took notice of Moonpaw's question, and answered dryly, "Leafkit died. Snake bite. Honeystorm killed the snake. Everyone's freaking out."

"That sounds like a great idea! Was he alone?" Minstripe asked curiously.

Stormpaw overheard what Tigerpaw had told Moonpaw, and his eyes drifted from the little kit to the camp entrance. Mintstripe was talking to Riverstar and Foxberry, and... someone else! Stormpaw didn't recognize the cat's pelt, and he bounded across the clearing to find out who it was.
With a pang, he realized that Leafkit's death didn't disturb him as much as it seemed it did to the other cats. It is a pale event in comparison to the murder of Crowstar, thought Stormpaw with a shiver.
