"I do think so." Sedgewillow mewed, smiling softly at the medicine cat apprentice. "You'll be a great medicine cat, especially with Minnowreed as your mentor." The black she-cat mewed, nudging Hailpaw's shoulder with her nose.

Mothflight smiled at Blackfur and turned, making her way towards the nursery. The pure black she-cat poked her head inside, looking around the den for a moment before her gaze landed on the tall queen.

"Nightflower?"

Harepaw bounded up to Birchflight, his tail swishing back and forth excitedly. "Are we going training?!" He squeaked, hopping in place.

"Yes, we are. Hunting or battle training?" The brownish/gray tabby tom stated, starting to walk calmly towards the camp exit.

Blackfur followed Mothflight into the nursery, peering his head through the entrance. "Hey, Nightflower! Mothflight and I wanted to see.. your..... kits.." Blackfur trailed off as he saw the scene before him unfold.

Nightflower was roused up from her nap by the sound of cats speaking her name. Amber eyes landed on the two after she opened them and lifted her head. The queen's expression betrayed annoyance because of being woken up but not much else. "What? Why?" She questioned once she registered what Blackfur had said, "There isn't much to see. They're dead." She pushed the tiny bodies away from her and towards the others a slight bit so that they could see them all they wanted. Nightflower wasn't one to openly display what she thought of as signs of weakness, such as grief, around cats she wasn't close to so her voice remained steady and she spoke in a only slightly strained neutral sounding tone.

Blackfur was shocked. "I-I'm so sorry. I had no idea."

Mothflight padded closer to Nightflower's dead kits, crouching next to them and sniffing at them curiously before nudging one of them. "Did you still name them?" She mewed, her frosty green gaze leaving the two dead kits to look at the black she-cat.

"Battle!" Harepaw replied, bounding after Birchflight. The dark brown tom walked happily next to his mentor. Even though he had been an apprentice for two moons now, he still acted like a new apprentice.

Rowanflame had heard all about the kitting and was tempted to go see the new kits, but noticed that the nursery was full of cats at the moment and didn't want to crowd them. He sensed that the cats were distressed and wondered if something was wrong. He silently sent a prayer up to Starclan for things to turn out okay, but he didn't know his prayer had come too late.

"No." Nightflower said, choosing to respond to Mothflight's question rather than acknowledge Blackfur's sympathy. "They don't need names. They were born dead." She sounded like it was the obvious answer. Why give a name to something that was never alive? To put a name to them would only make the grief more difficult to deal with for her. If she didn't name them they just nameless kits that never even had a life for her to mourn over.
