Ivykit looked up as he watched her pad away. He followed her to the edge of the nursery but stopped, only to peer out at what the others were doing around camp. A crowd had formed, circled around each other, but he didn't know why.

Tigerleaf looked up from the edge of the crowd to see Hazelfur running towards the crowd. "I've found another one for ya!" he called to her, "Just found the little guy in the forest... but there's something wrong with him..."

"There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him," Riverwish replied, extending her paws again towards the kit. She turned his faces back and forth slowly to get a better look at them. "Of course, I'll have to do a more thorough examination of him first to be sure."

Jinx flinched back from the medicine cat's touch but didn't actively try to get away from her. He didn't know this cat. He didn't know any of these cats. He only knew that they were talking about him as if he wasn't right here to hear what they were saying. Of course, he was still young and didn't understand everything that was being said about him but he still knew they were talking about him which was enough to panic the kit.

Bumblepaw's smile fell to a frown. He'd been waiting for six moons he didn't want to wait even longer. He also knew better than to argue with his mentor though. "I guess." He said with an exaggerated, loud sigh. The tom turned around again to start heading back towards the apprentice den.

Hazelfur
I glanced a look at the kit. I saw his deformity, but I didn't really care about it. "I see nothing wrong him."

Leopardberry
"I'm sorry Bumblepaw. I know you've been waiting a while."

Cloudstar dipped her head towards her medicine cat. "Very well." Turning to Hazelfur she added, "Do you think you can take care of him until later when he can get a thorough check over?" She asked.

Nightflower

Nightflower could easily look over the heads of her clanmates which allowed her to get a pretty good look at the kit everyone was surrounding. She took a couple of steps back with a soft gasp. Was Hazelfur blind? There was definitely something wrong with this kit. She held her tongue only because she didn't want to say that right in front of the deformed kit. There was something wrong with him but he probably still had feelings just like any other cat. He didn't deserve to be treated like an inferior being because of his appearance. She decided not to stick around and moved away from the group to sit someplace else instead.

Bumblepaw didn't respond to his mentor because he didn't know what to say. If she knew he had to wait so long already, why wouldn't she take him out then? He flopped down on his nest once he got inside the apprentice den. It was so lonely in the empty den but at least inside here he wasn't going to be a bother to anyone or get in the way.

Tigerleaf smiled, "You're kinder than the kit's own mother, Hazelfur." He said glancing back at the deformed kit he had found in the woods. Thoughts of omens flashed in his mind, but he paid them no heed before looking back to Hazelfur, "You'll be a great mother to him."

Riverwish nodded to Cloudstar, "after he's rested up a bit and been fed, I'll go fetch him and bring him back to my den for a full check."

CloudStar nodded. "Thanks Riverwish"" she said. "Alright guys, we need patrols. I will lead a border patrol with Tigerleaf, Leopardberry and her apprentice." She announced "Wolfstripe, Whispersong, and Moonfur will do a hunting patrol. Wolfstripe you will lead it." And with that she flicked her tail to gather her patrol

Hazelfur
I nodded. "Of course I can." I padded over to the kit, and wrapped my tail gently around him. "Come on sweetie, let's get you fed and rested up."

Leopardberry
I nodded. "Bumblepaw!" I said, shouting for my apprentice.

Tigerleaf nodded, and brought up the rear of the patrol.

Ivykit looked out to see that the cats had dispersed, all that remained was Hazelfur with her tail around something small and black, but he couldn't tell what it was.

Jinx began to quite obviously panic. He still did not know these cats. Half of them probably didn't even know his name and he knew none of theirs. He didn't want to just suddenly be confined by this strange cat's grip. He screamed with terror, not listening to what the queen had said at all, and quickly scrambled away from her. Luckily, he was still young and pretty uncoordinated so he wasn't moving very fast at all.

Bumblepaw's ears perked at the sound of his name. He stood up, forcing himself at an incredibly slow pace so not to topple over, and eventually poked his head out of the den to see who was calling for him.
