Yellowpaw yowled as the senior warrior stamped on his tail, "hey! You shouldn't be doing dat!" It was only his second day of being an apprentice.

(Can you please not say words like "Dat" please?)

Fangpaw- Tom- Tags; Blossomdawn

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea," he meowed trotting alongside her. As they turned the direction of the stream, stepped lighter listening for prey. He knew he wasn't as half as good of a hunter as he was a fighter, but always willing to try for his clan.

Blossomdawn looked down at her young apprentice proudly. Her first apprentice. Mentoring is amazing, even if Fangpaw is grumpy usually. She parted her jaws and tasted the air. "Hare." She whispered. She flicked her tail in the direction it was. "Why don't you go and catch it, and I'l watch, kinda like a practice assessment." She lowered her head to whisper to him.

"We are learning a new fighting move." Thornstep announced to his apprentice. "Leap-and-hold. You jump onto your opponents back with unsheathed claws. Now that you're on the cats back the cat can't reach you but can roll you over, so be careful." He warned flatly and demonstrated the move. "Do it the same way I did." He commanded.

Fangpaw- Tom- Tags; Blossomdawn

Fangpaw nodded slowly and flattened his ears against his head once he saw it. He had learned early that, while his big ears where good for pinpointing prey, they tended to give him away as he stalked prey. The wiry tom lowered himself into a crouch and began to stalk the hare, making sure to stay downwind, until it came into view, nibbling on blades of grass.

As the apprentice took off, Blossomdawn quickly and silently climbed up onto a low branch of a young cedar. She crouched and watched Fangpaw stalk the rabbit.

Adderpaw listened intently to the instruction his mentor gave, not wanting to mess the move up. Eye glistening with the same concentration as he watched Thornstep demonstrate the move, he gave his mentor a nod, unsheathing and sheathing his claws as he moved into a space big enough to perform the move. Leap-and-hold...leap-and-hold...claws unsheathed, and be careful in case the opponent rolls over. He repeated the warrior's words in his head, pausing for a second before performing the move. He copied the move almost exactly, though his leap could've been higher. Adderpaw seemed to realise this, as his tail fluffed up in annoyance and he quickly tried the move again, this time making sure to leap high enough. "Like that?" he asked.

Fangpaw was about gather himself to pounce the hare, when he wasn't watching where he was putting his paws and stepped on a small twig, snapping it. The hare stood upright and began to run at the same time Fangpaw hurled himself forward angrily. He gave chase and pounced, hooking a claw into it's tail. He quickly pulled it closer to himself and killed it, growling to himself at the clumsy kill he had just did.

Thornstep growled "The leap must be higher, and make sure you land correctly. Don't think I didn't see you wobble. A warrior's shoulders aren't as flat as the ground you're standing on, you would have fallen straight off!" He hissed. "Remember, the only way to power and greatness is to fight for it, and if someone interferes, you use tooth and claw to get rid of them. To the death if you have to." Thornstep growled darkly. "Now, again!"

Blossomdawn padded over to her apprentice. "It's alright! The only thing that matters is that you caught it. Everyone makes mistakes." She meowed to Fangpaw gently, and rubbed her flank against his reassuringly.

Acornpaw padded away embarrassed. "Mouse-brain! You must speak to your leader formally, not as if they were another apprentice!" She scolded herself under her breath. She pushed what just happened to the back of her mind, and padded over to Morningpaw. "Hey, Morningpaw!"

"Hello, Acornpaw!" She meowed cheerfully as her friend padded over. "We're low on Catmint, so I'm heading out to go get some by the old two-leg nest. Wanna come?" She invited the apprentice.

"Sure!" She responded. As they padded out of the forest, Acornpaw asked "What do you think of Fangpaw?" She asked.

"Fangpaw? I'm not allowed to think of toms a certain way, only as toms." Morningpaw meowed.

"Yeah, but, imagine you were a warrior apprentice for just a minute. What do you think of Fangpaw?" She repeated.

"Grumpy."

"I think he's quite brave. And strong.. And skilled.." She meowed while looking up at the fading stars.

"Sounds like someone's got a crush!" Moringpaw teased her friend.

"What! No! I just think he's a good cat." Acornpaw insisted.

"Whatever, loverbird. Look, there's the catmint. I'll go get some and then we can head back." Morningpaw flicked her tail towards the herbs.
