the medicine cat woke with a start, gasping as he looked out the den. "ahh! i slept in! sagepaw?" the tomcat looked around, but his apprentice wasn't in the den. she must be collecting herbs. he thought with a sigh as he stood up and shook his fur, turning his head and grooming it.

the she cat looked up from her slight dozing as she heard stomping. moonstripe stormed into camp, seemingly bringing the whole dark forest with him, and disappeared in the warriors' den. "woah, moonstripe are you okay?" she asked, concern for her clanmate making her rise to her paws and peer into the den. if he wanted to be alone, that was fine. but if he wanted to talk to someone, that was fine too.

now bored out of his mind, the young black tom sat outside the den, looking around for some cat to hang out with. he saw moonstripe stomp into the warriors' den, but just shrugged. it wasn't his problem, so he shouldn't need to worry about. independance is key, he remembered his mother's words as clearly as her death. yes, help out your clanmates and yes, allow them to help you in return, but remember there will come a time where you must stand alone. therefore, independence is key. he sighed and looked down. she was meant to be here with him, to watch him thrive as a cloudclan cat, but she wasn't.
