"capelin," he replied, watching sandstorm down the hall until she disappeared from sight.
xxcapelin put all his talons back on the stone floor. he glanced at the large satchel he wore, along with a slightly smaller bag, packed by his mother, the seawing queen. i... should go to my cave. i haven't set up a thing there. he turned to the hall nearest to the library, glancing at a map one of the academy staff had given to him. hopefully my cavemates are nice.
xxthe satchels capelin wore bounced a little as he walked. he entered cave six, stuffing his guide back into the satchel he had packed himself. he looked up, only to see a sandwing with swords and other weapons around her. oh. actually, that didn't look all the way like a sandwing. blue-green wing membrane, a multicolored rainwing ruff, and a kind of jagged-looking crest - somewhat unnatural for a sandwing, capelin thought. damn, was everyone a hybrid here?
xxcapelin glanced around the room, looking for his bed. lo and behold, a deep blue bed. it had a small little moat around it. how cute. it also had green kelp atop it, watered by the clearwater moat. he took his satchels off his back, his shoulders instantly feeling better. they were hung up on two of the small octopus-shaped coathangers.
xxhe plopped on the seawing-oriented bed, watching the hybrid in his cave. dragonfly, probably, according to his guide. silt seemed like, well, a mudwing name.

dragonfly threw three shurikens over her shoulder, each landing in a line and each
with a thunk on the newly-arrived seawing's wall. "hey," she said absently, retrievi
ng the throwing stars and wiping them off with a polishing cloth. her blue-tinted ey
es studied her new clawmate for a moment before returning to her blades. "you ca
pelin? sounded like a seawing name. name's dragonfly." the hybrid's ruff swirled to
a vibrant blue as she turned, replacing the stars on their respective hooks.

capelin flinched visibly as the throwing stars hit the wall behind him. he glanced at them, before turning his pale green gaze to dragonfly. "uh, yeah. i-i'm capelin."
xxcapelin removed his personal bag from one of the coathangers, unpacking its contents onto his bed. he put a few things on his wall, and inside the carved holes in the wall.
