cinderstar's pale blue eyes glanced up to the vast, sparkling, night sky. silver pelt shone bright, casting
shafts of pale gray moonlight into the den. she glanced down at the kits by her side, and nuzzled them
gingerly, with deep care and affection. silentstep stood at the entrance of the cave, engulfed by the
shadows around him. his jet black pelt blended in with his surroundings, practically making it impossible
for cinderstar to see him approach her and their kits. his neck bent, gently grooming one of the kits
fur to keep them warm. a gush of cold air swept into the den, along with a few drops of snow. looking
up from their kits, cinderstar met the medicine cat's fierce green gaze. a warm smile slowly formed on
her exhausted face. "they're beautiful." she whispered. silentstep nodded in agreement, a look of somber
across his worried face. he shook his head sadly, looking down at the kits and then back up at cinderstar.
"but you know we can't tell the clan." he pointed out in a hushed voice. "they will never have the chance
to know that i am their father..." he trailed off, tears rising in his eyes. quickly, he blinked them away
before his forbidden mate could notice. cinderstar lifted her tail slowly and placed it on silentstep's
shoulder. "it'll be alright, my dear." she assured him softly. they will never have the chance to know that
i am their father silentstep's words repeated in her head.they will never know, and neither will the clan.
i'll be sure of it. my kits will not grow up discriminated because their birth broke the medicine cat code.
she didn't know it at the time, but they would in fact never grow up to be discriminated. instead, they
grew up to cause havoc for the clan. the clan is on the brink of destruction... and why? because of some
silly little kits? these kits aren't just any kits. they're cursed. their birth meant nothing but trouble...

cinderstar gently touched her nose to the shimmering pool of water, known commonly as the moon pool.
her eyes slowly shut and she fell into a deep sleep, awakening in their old home, in the mountains. she had
heard tales about the clan living in the mountains, but that took place many, many, moons ago. long before
cinderstar roamed the forest. many of her former clan-mates surrounded her, but one stood out to her in
particular. silvermoon. silvermoon's black and silver tabby pelt glowed in the sunlight, her eyes filled with
wisdom and youth. cinderstar dipped her head respectfully, then looked up as silvermoon approached her.
"hello, mother. it's nice to see you once more." she greeted her, barely able to hide her excitement and bliss.
silvermoon slightly nodded, and cinderstar couldn't help but wonder if something was wrong. "silvermoon?
you seem... troubled." cinderstar noticed a look of disappointment on her beloved mother's face. "young one,
it's not me who is troubled." she replied, her eyes hardly meeting her daughter's. her voice throbbed with
grief and she longed for her kits to all be with her tonight. the leader's head titled ever so slightly to the side
in confusion, "by whatever do you mean?" she asked in a worried tone. her mother implied that she should
be troubled, but why? is it because of the kits? did she know? while of course she knew... starclan knew
everything, for they watched over us. silvermoon's emerald eyes grew soft. "the kits." she said simply. "they
bring destruction to the clan... five will be born, a curse yet a gift. the forest will burn under their wrath,
and the flames shall falter. the ones you trust the most will turn and rise to get revenge. traitors are among
you..." silvermoon warned, her strong voice echoing throughout the clearing. her spirit slowly faded into the
night sky, filled with stars that seemed to resemble diamonds. cinderstar's eyes grew wide in alarm, "wait!"
she protested, wanting to know what it meant. "i want to know what it mea-" she was cut off by silvermoon.
"remember what i said... and be careful who you trust." she whispered before fading completely into the night.
