Birchkit wailed. NOOO! IT GOT HER!! She squirmed about, trying desperately to get out of its grasp, before she smelled her mother again. It smelled... Like the old food-giving fluff. She calmed down, and stopped wailing. She gave a mew of confusion.

Birchkit smelled milk. She had to be sure. She suckled a bit, and when she pulled away she was sure that it was the same food-giving fluff. She had forgotten the previous neglect that she had given her when she was obviously in peril with the bad fluff, so it was a comforting realization. She purred, burying her muzzle in her mother's fur and milky scent.
