Mudface turned to face his leader, bowing his head slightly in respect. "Good morning, Fallenstar. I think a hunting patrol sounds great." He meowed. His voice was deep and gravely, still rough from sleep. He rose to his paws, shaking his fur.

Mothwing padded to the far edge of camp where a few stalks of yarrow still stood next to a half-frozen over pond. It was bitten with frost but still useful, and so Mothwing snipped the stalks out of the ground and padded back into the main part of camp. She set the herbs outside her cave den and padded over to Sweetrose. "Sweetrose, would you mind helping me gather some moss before it gets too frost-bitten? My claws are a bit too short to get the moss deep in the roots of the oak trees." She mewed to the warrior, tilting her head.

"Excellent," Fallenstar said, arching his back in a stretch. He turned and padded softly through the camp entrance, flexing his claws in the partly frozen earth. His breath swirled up in front of him, and he fluffed up his pelt to keep warm. Hopefully the clan would be prepared for leafbare.

Sweetrose looked up to see Mothwing, and dipped her head in greeting. "Oh, of course! I'd love to help," the she-cat mewed, rising to her paws and shaking her pelt. The medicine cat didn't have an apprentice, so it was the least she could do to help.

Mudface followed his leader, grateful of his thick pelt as a sharp wind blew through camp. As they walked he noticed how cold it had been recently. "It'll be snowing soon, I suppose." He meowed softly, as to not disturb any of the rodents. "We should store extra food for leaf-bare." His paws made light crunching sounds on the frost bitten leaves, a sound impossible to avoid in such a heavily wooded area.

Mothwing smiled gently, turning to lead the way. "Thank you! I just found a good clump yesterday." She mewed, padding softly out of camp and heading right, towards a small stream. The path she took was known by few in the clan, used almost solely for medicine cats and their apprentices. It was not a secret, but prey was scarce and its only real use was the abundance of herbs that sprouted in the spring and summer. A few rare winter blossoms bloomed here too, but every year there seemed to be less and less.

"I think that's an excellent idea," the leader meowed, stopping once they'd gotten to an area far enough away from the camp. He waved his tail and tilted his muzzle to the air, jaws parting to drink in the scents. The sharp scent of pine bathed his tongue, but underneath was the smell of a vole. Fallenstar narrowed his eyes and searched among the trees, freezing when he saw the small creature scuffling among a pile of leaves. The tom pointed to it with his tail, "There," he whispered.

Sweetrose padded gently after Mothwing, her eyes gazing at the frost covered clumps of grass that crowded around the stream. The last few leaves were beginning to fall off of the few deciduous trees that riddled the territory, dappling the forest floor in gold and amber. "When do you think you'll get an apprentice?" she asked, trotting to catch up to the medicine cat.

[Dotion]

Mudface nodded, spotting the small rodent as well. He crouched, breathing slowed, eyes focused on the tiny body. He motioned for Fallenstar to head downwind of the small rodent, and waited until his leader was in position to tense his muscles. His thighs quivered as he prepared, but finally he leaped at the vole, startling it and forcing it to run towards Fallenstar.

Mothwing sighed, eyes older than she was. "I don't know, I hope soon. With the lack of kits being born I don't see one in the immediate future, but maybe a miracle will happen and I'll be gifted with one before I have to retire." She meowed as she began carefully pulling up clumps of moss and rolling them carefully into balls. "I'm not going to retire yet, though! 36 moons isn't that old!" She laughed, tail swishing the ground.
