the tom rolled through the long wavy grass, the blades soft as air. the apprentice couldn't help but sigh and stare into the sky. the clouds were soft and patterned. he felt something nudge his side and looked over, only to be jolted awake. he noticed doepaw and gasped "What...?" he mewed - startled by her sudden appearance. he looked passed the molly, only to see bright light. then she mentioned sunhigh. "Sunhigh?!" he shot out of his nest, his paws catching under him. his twisted back leg ached, but he ignored it as he lugged it past doepaw. he searched the herbs quickly, most had plenty of herbs. where was darkleaf? who knew. he trudged over to a corner, but then he remembered doepaw. he shot his head back to her - almost ramming his face into her side - and flattened his ears in embarrassment as he backed up "Ah, thank you doepaw. I would have slept away the entire day." he took another step back, giving her a bit of space in the tight den. he knew most cats weren't used to the cramped space, to him it was cozy. he enjoyed being with darkleaf as well, another thing most cats could say no to. he yanked himself back to the current time and smiled dumbly. even though he was older than her, he was still young.

the young tom dipped his head and headed out of the den, leaving doepaw quietly. he had said goodbye quickly and decided to head out for herbs, before fawndapple bardged into camp and screamed bloody murdereven entered camp. he didnt know where darkleaf had gone, maybe he was out there? he dragged his lame leg behind him as he sniffed for herbs. the large apprentice soon found the strong scent of ferns. normally he was able to salvage some catmint around this area. he sniffed around a bit more until he found the stash. his amber eyes glowed as he picked the thin stems. but almost too late, he heard growling. his fur rose as he turned. a fox stood a few tail lengths away, but it wasnt looking at him. it was looking at Redoak! he stood where he was, not wanting to leave, or not able he should say. his tail fluffed to double its size as he stared in horror.
