Mayor Mare paused in her walk when she saw that ponies around her seemed to be avoiding a certain spot a few feet away. Curious, and wanting to ensure that there was nothing wrong, she trotted towards the area. The first thing she saw, when she reached it, was a pegasus (Night Flare?) - stark against the usually bright, pale coats of the others, her jet-black pelt stood out like a sore hoof. Her bright red mane completed the look, and she wondered how Canterlotians would react to seeing her. Either they would scream in terror, or find the different look to be refreshing.

The second thing was the golden retriever beside her, larger than the Mayor herself. That, she believed, was probably what everypony was trying to skirt around. She realised she was staring; she cringed almost imperceptibly, before speaking. "Good morning... Moon Flare, is it?" Though she tried her best to memorise the names of every citizen of Ponyville, this pegasus seldom spoke up, meaning she was barely aware of her existence.

The large pegausus folded her large wings softly and nodded. "Close, Mayor Mare. It's Night Flare, but I understand you are trying to get everypony's name right, and there's just too many. Don't worry, I understand," she said, Sunny standing very closely to her. Her mane fell to one side and she got almost as shy as Fluttershy, who is one of the most shy ponies in Equestria. She unfolded her wings and sheltered Sunny from the morning sun. Her left wing fell to her side again, and she looked at Mayor Mare.

"Sister, I'm hungry,," Luuna complained. "I want to get cake and eat the whole thing.. chocolate cake... mm.." and she licked her lips, closing her eyes.

"Ah, of course. Sorry." She knew that Night Flare had just told her it was okay, but Mayor felt obligated to apologise regardless. "My thanks for understanding." With the same friendly grin on her face, she tapped a hoof subconsciously against the ground. The other ponies seemed to be scared of the dog, but she couldn't demand that Night keep it in her home constantly. "How are you enjoying this fine day?"

Night Flare smiled awkwardly. "Eh, good," she said softly. Letting up her wings, Sunny sat down obediently and stayed by Night Flare. The crowd started to move back to what they were doing, and the conversation with the Mayor would be alright, without all of the awkwardness. She moved a bit closer to the mayor, Sunny staying by her cutie-mark. Her tail dragged on the ground as she took a few steps forward. Sunny barked a soft greeting to the mayor. Sunny was a friendly golden retriever. He loved ponies.

Mayor Mare's grin widened as the dog barked at her, presumably in a way that was meant to be friendly. It had been a long time since she'd last interacted with one; she had no idea how canine body language worked. She reached a hoof towards Sunny, then paused. "May I pet him?" she asked. He seemed friendly, but there may have been some obscure dog-petting rule she had no idea about.
