Rosedapple turned in surprise at Coalwhisper's mew, unaware that he had been listening to her argument with her brother. She dipped her head gratefully to him for the offer; she had not been looking forward to hunting with Oakspots alone.
"Sure, perhaps you'd like to lead?" She mewed in silky sweet tones.
Fawnfur flattened her ears in embarrassment at Honeyflower's comment. "I... I just..." Her voice trailed off as she stammered in reply. She quickly plucked a thrush from the pile and, eager to change the subject, she mewed, " Aren't you cold just sitting here in the bare middle of camp? I think my paws are so frozen they'll fall off!"
Oakspots grinned excitedly - at last he could go on patrol! "We'd be glad to have your expertise", he added to Coalwhisper. "My sister has been a warrior for little more than a season and she already thinks she can boss me around!" he purred, flicking Rosedapple's shoulder with his plumy brown tail.
Darkmoon was about to respond to Parsleypaw's flurry of questions when a lithe pale cream she-cat rushed into the den. He half mewed a greeting to the medicine cat but Feathermist was already giving out orders to the surrounding cats. "Of course, Feathermist", he responded when she told him to alert the clan leader. "I'll leave right away." He stole a sideways glance at the injured she-cat, her soft black fur melting into the dark shadows of the den. Willing her to recover, he tore his gaze away and slipped out of camp in search of Lilystar.
