kestrelthorn
under the slab of rock and the canopy of a bush, kestrelthorn grumbled as she organized
the herb piles for the twentieth time in that moon. her neat collection of leaves and berries were
her pride and joy, besides her duty as a medicine cat. yet some obnoxious apprentices would not
respect the tidied piles and would start playing a game with them like it was leaf-fall. if the she-cat's
nose was better, she would have been able to identify the suspects, but her growing age was beginning
to take a toll on her senses. it seems to run in kestrelthorn's kin; her mother too had lost her sense of smell
before even reaching her sixtieth moon.
upon hearing the sound of breezestar's yowl, kestrelthorn hurriedly swept the remaining herbs into
a corner. there weren't many left to organize, to her relief. turning away, the medicine cat emerges from
the den to hear the announcements of waveclan's leader.
finchpaw
finchpaw had still been curled up tightly in his nest when breezestar yowled to the clan. his
ears twitched at the sound, then the cat woke up. the apprentice let out a loud yawn, blinking away sleep
from his pale blue eyes. one of the other apprentices- tigerpaw, finchpaw realized- had already left the den.
the latter could almost smell the excitement left behind by the former.
almost a moon into his training already, finchpaw couldn't understand how tigerpaw would be so joyful at the
thought of it. in his opinion, his mentor deerpelt never gave the apprentice a break. he would be training and
learning the newest ways to catch from from dusk till dawn. practically no time to fool around with russetpaw!
finchpaw stretched his legs, kicking another apprentice's nest into another's on accident, and padded lazily out of
the den. he squinted at the sunlight. oh how he wishes to be back in the nest.
the brown-and-gray tabby skirted around a large gathering of warriors, sneaking his way past kestrelthorn
(she must know he was one of the apprentices who kicked up her den!), and settled a few paws away from
tigerpaw.
