Ebonyfire had been hovering outside the medicine cat den, he had wanted to talk to Doeleap, but she was upset now, about poor Illuminatedkit, "Doeleap, may I come in?" he called out, he didn't want to intrude on her.

Doeleap forced a smile and said, "Of course, Ebonyfire."

Ebonyfire padded into the den, "Oh Doeleap, it's not your fault, you're an amazing medicine cat, I love you," he said, nuzzling his mate and licking her on the cheek.

Doeleap's forced smile faded. "If I had noticed earlier..." she whispered, choking back more tears.

"No, it's not your fault, do not blame yourself," Ebonyfire said, he put his paws around Doeleaps neck, kind of hugging her.

Doeleap's sad gaze moved from the ground to meet Ebonyfire's eyes. "Illuminatedkit could've had a life. A mate, kits, a rank. Because I was too blind to see she was sick, she won't ever have any of that."

"No, Doeleap, stop blaming yourself! None of this is your fault, you couldn't have known she was sick, you did all you could, but obviously it was her time to go join Starclan. You have saved so many lives, Doeleap, does that not count for anything?" Ebonyfire asked.
