Ivykit listened to Poppycloud closely trying to catch it all. "Why can't I just keep getting milk from you?" Ivykit asked tilting her head. "Is that why daddy is always out? Is he hunting all the time? Who is going to be my mentor? Do I have to get one? Can't I just stay a kit forever?"

"You will become an apprentice when you are six moons old, you can train to be a warrior, or, if your mother doesn't have an apprentice you could train to be a medicine cat," Ebonyfire said.

Poppycloud laughed, "No, my milk won't last forever, you will like prey, trust me, and yes, thats what your father does, and he patrols our territory to see if any cats come into the territory that shouldn't be here, and I don't know who your mentor will be, that's up to Nightstar, and yes you can't go out of camp on your own until you are a warrior, and no the clan needs every cat it can to help out," she said.

"You can't be a warrior now, you're too young, I don't want you to get hurt, and the prey we catch is so much bigger than you. Do you want me to teach you how to hunt? I can go get a dead mouse for you to practice on," Ebonyfire said, nuzzling his daughter.

Tinykit frowned as Ebonyfire told her she was too young, but then visibly brightened when he suggested getting a dead mouse for her to practice on. "Yeah!"
