You open your eyes and find yourself standing in a misty forest, shimmering specks of dusk floating through the air around you. There are four massive oaks circling the large clearing you stand in and even in the dark you can tell that it is all very green. You could have sworn that it was leafall, and yet... "Wh-where am I...?" you murmur, looking around.
"Hello." You turn to see a beautiful silver tabby with glowing blue eyes and bright specks like stars in her pelt. The grass seems to glitter like frost behind her and her paws leave starry prints on the ground. As she moves closer to you, her scent wafts over your nose, bringing you the smell of the seasons: the tang of leaf-bare, the green scent of greenleaf, the musk of leafall, and the sweet blossom of newleaf. "My name is Lilystorm," she says, her voice smooth and graceful, echoing almost majestically in the large clearing. "I've come to welcome you to Starclan."
"Starclan?" you repeat, surprised. You died? But how? You think back and suddenly it all comes back to you and you step back, startled that it's true. She frowns sympathetically, placing her tail comforting on your shoulder.
"Come, there is much for you to learn," she says, guiding you from the clearing and into the forest. As you walk you leave behind a trail of starry footprints...
Where are you? You look around to see dark, tall, bleak trees so high that no light can shine through. The ground beneath your paws is bare and sticky and a thick mist surrounds everything. No sound reaches your ears and as you raise your nose to smell the air you find there to be no distinguishable scents. Shivering, you fluff up your coat against the chilly air, feeling the dampness begin to form droplets on your pelt. Everything about this place was awful and kind of creepy. Yet somehow, you felt it was familiar as well.
Hearing a slight movement nearby, you whip around, staring into the deep shadows of the Forest. From the dark a pair of glowing, amber eyes appear, narrowing as they stare you down. A shiver of fear runs along your spine as you gaze into those eyes, your body stiffening in terror.
"Welcome," a deep voice rumbles as a figure steps from the trees. The lithe, dark brown tabby smirks, standing in front of you with a dangerous air. "Welcome to the Dark Forest."
When you awoke you were here, in this strange unfamiliar forest. Everything was green and bright, filled with wonderful scents. As you watch, a beautiful butterfly flitters past your nose, its colorful wings flashing like a twinkling star. Golden sunlight warms your pelt and spreads comfort throughout your body, sending pleasant chills along your spine. It was so... relaxing.
Starting into the treeline, you began to pad into the forest, taking in your surroundings. As you went along, though, you found that the trees grew thicker and the forest became darker. Even the air seemed colder further you went.
"I wouldn't go any farther if I were you." Surprised, you look up to see a she-cat with soft brown and white fur standing before you. Her eyes are warm and the color of bark, glinting and glimmering in the dim light of the deep forest. She smiles kindly at you, showing she means no harm. "That's where the bad cats go," she says, nodding into the deeper part of the forest.
"What is this place? Who are you?" you ask, confused.
Smiling again, the she-cat replies, "My name is Lucy, and this is the Midplane. It's where you go when you die. The good cats prefer to stay in the lighter parts of the forest. The bad," she looked again into the deeper part of the woods, "tend to prefer the darker." Returning her gaze to you, she smiled kindly, walking past you and flicking her tail for you to follow. "Come, I'll show you around."
