"I think that she understnads life much better than a lot of us, actually," Duskfur finally said. "She's wiser than a lot of cats, but she's just pretty solitary."

[Cloudsong]

In an exaggeratedly graceful way, Dawn trotted ahead, and sat down at the gate of the school. "Yes," she agreed. "We have arrived."

[Chaosin]

"She has to stop living in the past.I'll talk to her later," she said.

Mint wasn't listening. Without staying along with Dawn, she ran along towards a mouse. Without making a noise, she dropped in a crouch and followed it defiantly, making sure her tail didn't ruffle the leaves on the ground. After a while of stalking it, she jumped in the air, and with a graceful twist, she landed on the mouse, and killed it with two swipes. Mint trotted back to Dawn, and dropped the mouse at her feet. Then, she went back to the prey, and continued to search for prey.

"Oh no, don't." Duskfur said, "It won't help. Look, she isn't living in the past, she's living our future. Her mind is rarely set on the past, but she does sometimes think of her family."

[Chaosin]

"She's not the only one who's lost her family," said Petalheart.The wind blew and her pelt was ruffled.A shiver ran down her spine as she remembered herself calling for her father.She shook her head.Maybe she was the one living in the past.

"Have you lost your family too? Oh, your father." Duskfur said, hanging his head, "But she has lost her whole family and practically all her friends. You understand, don't you?"

"I lost everything.Not just my father.My mom died and my sister.I lost my closest friend too," she bent her head, tears ran down her face."I always thought one of them would come back.But when I became a warrior, and heard the clan cheering my name, I realized that none of them were coming back," she whispered.She looked at him."My father seemed to know he was going to vanish.When I became an apprentice he gave me my mother's most prized posession.He told me 'Keep this in memory of your mother and me.I won't be around forever, and something might happen to me.' ," she turned her gaze away.

Duskfur eyes blazed, "My mother died at my birth. I was named Duskkit because night engulfed her as she died. She only managed to whisper my name as she disappeared. My father was the closest to me, since I had no siblings. He died when I was just made an apprentice, and when RockClan attacked DuskClan. My two best friends, Angelpaw and Cherrypaw, were killed in the process, while my cousin, Rockpelt, died of greencough two years later. I had no family, and Ravenpaw lost even more. Her three siblings, her best friend named Leafkit, oh, I remembered Leafkit, she was a very gentle cat. Anyway, she also lost her parents, and now Rainpaw is her only friend. You have friends, you are respected in the Clan, but many despise Ravenpaw." Duskfur finished, almost out of breath.

She turned away.Inside she was blazing.He didn't understand what this was.Her mother wasn't even a clan cat!She was a kittypet.Her father had begged them because of the stupid Warrior Code.Her mother wasn't cut out for the forest.It was her father's fault.She closed her eyes."It's his fault," she whispered.She had gone to her mother's Twolegs nest.Her kin lived nearby.They all hated her.They died too.
