the she-cat lay in the warriors' den, her ears flattened against her head. she was attempting to avoid what was going on and decided to remain in her nest and take a brief nap before being called onto a hunting patrol later on.

he observed the scene from a tree branch, his light amber gaze glittering with amusement. foolish she-cat, he thought before shaking his head. a sparrow alighted next to him, his claws retracting as dispatched the helpless animal.

sorrelcloud turned to the stubborn she-cat. her eyes softened, yet a stern hint was carved in it's green light. "purpleflower, please," she mewed, "your time will come, just please wait outside. i promise that if we need help, you will be the first one to be called." the calico medicine cat gave her a reassuring look before turning back to the pained queen.

kestralpaw shook his head, starring off to the leader's den. as their was silence between them, he realized that skygaze could not see him. the dappled apprentice's ears grew hot. "n-no, not yet skygaze," he mewed, "i do hope that vixenleap and the kits will be fine."

vixenleap hissed. "purpleflower get out! lies, all lies! i do not wish to have you in here, nor do i want to speak with you now!" she growled, pain surging through her like a coursing river flowing through rapids.

fernpaw pushed purpleflower out. "you heard her, you're upsetting her... again! you're going to hurt her and her kits, not to mention the entire clan! we're desperate for cats after the war, you upsetting the only pregnant cat in the clan is going to cost us dearly!"

Purpleflower's head droops. "But I made a promise to myself that I would be there for her during labor." she said silently. "I havent told her my vow yet."

"purpleflower!" she cried sternly, "wait outside now please! i appreciate your eagerness to help, but you aren't doing so at this moment. if it was a regular kitting of course i would let you help, but this is urgent!" the calico she-cat sighed, looking away from purpleflower. gently, she ran her tail over vixenleap's swollen belly. "you see how her stomach is rippling," she asked her apprentice, "it's the contractions helping her with the kits."

vixenleap snarled. "get out!" she shrieked. "you're going to cause my kits to die, you fool! you might as well kill me now, i'm not going to deal with this!" she hissed.

fernpaw shoved the queen outside of the den, giving vixenleap herbs to calm her. after a few minutes the queen was calm again with the two kits suckling at her belly, but something was wrong with the last one. vixenleap was pushing as hard as she could but the kit wouldn't budge. fernpaw tried everything she knew, but nothing worked. she needed sorrelcloud, and fast.

Purpleflower just droops her head outside of the den, seeing its hopeless to gain Vixenleap's trust back.

fernpaw listened to her mentor as she tried to get the third kitten out. she did after about twenty minutes, but her entire body drooped. "sorrelcloud... i-it's... she's... stillborn..." fernpaw said softly, grief showing on the small apprentice's face in it's purest form. the tiny silver kitten wasn't moving nor breathing... it was thought to be dead.

Skygaze nodded sfter the belated answer. "Well, Its all up to starclan..." he muttered, knowing sometimes the past clan and leaders had a funny sense of humor. "but... I wish her good bearings" he added with a slight smile. nearly flinching when he heard yowls and hissing coming from the den the kitting what in "wow, uh... Sounds like someone's angry" he muttered, his ear turned towards the den, "something up with purpleflower?" he asked questionly, a confused appearance setting on his face.

sorrelcloud crouch beside fernpaw with intent and desperate eyes. during the next time, she helped fernpaw deliver the kitten. she sniffed the small silver kitten on the moss nest. sorrelcloud shook her head, and began to roughly lick the small kit's fur backward in attempt to make it breathe. she paused after a few heartbeats. very faintly, she caught the kit's flank rise up and down. "it's alive!" she mewed with a smile.

kestralpaw perked his ears as the warrior spoke. his words were wise, and the apprentice decided to keep quiet. the dappled tom hump when the commotion sounded from the den. his eyebrows furrowed. "purpleflower's feelings got rejected from sandstar," he mewed.
