xxxEaglefeather's next stop was the elder's den. He had been prepared to offer to organize patrols for Hollowedstar- he understood only too well the pain of losing someone close to you, but he hadn't wanted to interrupt his conversation with Purpleflower, so he simply went in search of the tom who was already an elder. His story was a sad one, and Eaglefeather felt sorry that such talent had been burned out- quite literally- so young. He paused at the entrance to the elder's den, and called tentatively; "Burntpelt? Are you in there?" Of course, he would not hassle the young tom, but he supposed that one whose life had just been snatched away could use a friend.

xxxAdderpelt finallydragged himself out of the warrior's den and settled his aching haunches in the snow, breathing a long sigh of relief at the cooling sensation that it provided. Closing his eyes, he gritted his teeth and hauled himself to his feet again, beginning his determined half-march, half-limp to the medicine cat den. He ducked inside and shook out his pelt, letting his eyes adjust, before calling out; "Songwing? Redpaw? I could use some stuff for my legs again... they're aching." When he received no response, he sighed irritably and added to the gloom in a rather snappish tone; "I would like to get back on patrol in this lifetime, if that's alright with you two."

xxx"Lynxheart," Sandpaw mewed coolly, tilting her pale head back to blink up at her mentor with a soft smile. "Good morning. I trust you slept well, if you were up this early. Is it not exciting that a new deputy will be announced soon?" It was an unnerving quirk of Sandpaw's- the way she spoke so articulately for her age, with those pale green wide, unblinking eyes that never missed a single beat. "I wonder if perhaps it will be someone that you or I am personally acquainted with. I should think that a great honour, to be friends with the deputy." She blinked, and then nodded to affirm her speech, before settling her tail over her paws and waiting for her mentor's response.

xxx Brightpaw purred happily in response to Dappledpaw's agreement of her statement. Her tail raised happily as she bumped his shoulder again in a rather companionable manner, and she began to speak; "Aren't you excited, Dappledpaw? A new deputy is going to be chosen today! I know I am excited. I feel very sorry for Hollowedstar though, losing Hawkstar couldn't have been easy. May he find good hunting and relaxing days in Starclan." She mewed, her tone turning solemn toward the end of her sentence as she ducked her head in respect for their deceased leader that she now mentioned, ears flattening against her head a little, before they perked. "Hey! Maybe we should do something nice for Hollowedstar! We could catch him the biggest, best piece of prey we possibly can!"

burntpelt was curled up into a tight ball of missing fur patches and scars. he looked up and over to see eaglefeather. "i-i'm here..." he said softly, in the back of the den hidden in the darkness. burntpelt was remembering his days as blazefire, before the accident happened, ironic as his name described his fate. he had been daydreaming about faintbreeze for a long time before he snapped back into the reality that she had faded away from him. he knew that faintbreeze would never love him, which made him hurt even more, but ferncreek told him to never give up hope, so he never did. he just stayed quiet.

xxxEaglefeather took that as a cue to move deeper into the den, settling himself just beside the entrance, not close enough to make Burntpelt feel like he was invading his space. "Good morning," he mewed calmly, offering a kind smile, although it may have been lost on the other in the dim light. "I came to see how you were doing today. The camp is a little excited, I thought perhaps you wouldn't want to miss out on that." He settled carefully, pulling his paws up and under his body, curling his tail around him tightly. His ears flicked a little to dislodge dust, the sawed-off tip of his right ear stark and obvious. "Of course, the question of your well-being may be a silly one to ask, though I think it's important that your clan shows you support in a difficult time like this. You have been very brave." He shook his head a little, tutting to himself. "I apologize, it is inappropriate of me to be asking these questions, and staying on this topic for such a long time. How have you been?"

burntpelt looked up to meet eaglefeather's gaze {i forgot to mention his eye T-T}, his one silvery-blue blind eye looking upwards with hope. "thank you. i am fine, and i heard that the deputy is to be chosen today." burntpelt said, a sad look crossing his face. when he was younger, he dreamed of being the deputy, but after attempting to save two kits in a fire and later being deemed as useless for a warrior or anything else and having to retire resulting in severe burns, he knew that his fantasies could wait. burntpelt had always been a dreamer, but the weight of reality was crushing him, rather quickly too.

Ruinpaw yawned loudly, waking up from his nap. He silently scolded himself for over sleeping, and licked the soft grey fur on his chest down silently. He got up, slinking out of the den quietly. He stretched, yawning again and hoping noone noticed he had overslept. The clan seemed to be in quite a stir. Probably about the next deputy. His ears flicked, and the stump where his tail should be wiaggled a bit curiously.

The she-cat slinked back into camp, returning after doing a bit of hunting. She could never do enough for her clan. She bounded across the camp, eager to drop the kills into the pile, as her jaw was getting a bit tired. She stared down at the two scrawny mice she had caught, feeling upset with herself for not catching more. Darkblossom flicked her tail almost angrily, promising herself to do better next time. She rolled belly up on the rocky floor, feeling a bit exhausted and not wanting to be bothered.

xxxEaglefeather smiled and nodded to confirm the young tom was correct. "That's right, Hollowedstar is going to be picking his deputy today." He said, with no further elaboration. When asked who he thought was the best bet, he would simply shrug and flick his ears indifferently. He was not one to gauge these things. "Perhaps you'll come to the ceremony?" He asked, phrasing it more as a question that a statement, tilting his head to accentuate the question even more. "I'm sure Ferncreek would be happy to see you out of the den. I can tell she worries for you. And I'm sure your friends would like to see you, too. You were apprenticed with my sister, Swallowfoot, weren't you? Honestly, I think you and the others kept her on the right track, Starclan knows Finchfur and Falconwing didn't exactly do the best job." He saddened momentarily at the mention of his lost siblings, but shook it away. This was not the time for him to mourn his own losses.

burntpelt nodded, remembering his apprenticeship. "of course, she was an excellent mentor. i will be at the deputy ceremony, however, it will be a surprise for me, i do not have an opinion as to who should be deputy and who shouldn't be."
