Suddenly, Glass Gaze stiffened. "There are cats up ahead."

Moonember stood talking to Dustypaw. "Nobody lives on the other side. It's probably too cold, anyway."

Dustypaw meowed, "How can you be sure? When was this last explored?"

Lynx Heart froze. He scented the air. A faint scent of cats hit him. "Where is it coming from?"

[C a s]

Glass Gaze padded off, following her nose. "This way."

Moonember shrugged. "No idea. I mean, it may have a few outsiders living somewhere, but it doesn't really matter."

[horrorfiilms]

Dustypaw exclaimed, "There could be a rogue pack here or something, right under our noses!"

Lynx Heart followed. As they got closer, he could hear two cats talking.

[C a s]

"They would mark the border, rogues are defensive," Moonember pointed out.

Glass Gaze began to bristle. "Can you see them?"

[horrorfiilms]

Lynx Heart whispered," I sure can." He watched the two cats. One was a black tom with a white paw. And an orange tabby, though it looked smaller.

Dustypaw shrugged. "Loners, maybe?" He paused. "Wait. Do you smell that?" He scented the slightest hint of blood.

[C a s]

"Let's approach them," Glass Gaze said.

"Sh." Moonember's ears angled forward.

Dustypaw listened, not making a sound.

Lynx Heart nodded. "Let's try to be calm. We don't know what we're getting ourselves into.& The dark tabby slowly stepped forward to show himself.

Glass Gaze followed, stepping slowly out beside him. "Do they look dangerous?"

Moonember's fur rose as he saw the cats. "Who are you?"

Lynx Heart whispered, "Not really." He took a step forward. "I am Lynx Heart. And this is Glass Glaze."


Dustypaw stayed behind his mentor, and he scanned the cats curiously.
