Wolfheart jolted back as the tom came from nowhere, her pelt stood on end as she flattened her ears but she stood tall. "I am sorry... I didn't know this was your kit. She was alone and I didn't see her mother anywhere..." she paused for a moment then continued, "You must be her father. Oh, may I ask where her mother is?" she mewed in a calm voice, her attention drew to the tom then down to the kit as she spoke.

Russetpelt looked up seeing Shatterstar, "Oh! Hello Shatterstar!" he replied in a happy tone. "Would you like the rest of the mouse?" he asked sitting up waiting for her reply.

Shatterstar smiled, but shook her head. "Thank you, but I have to say no. You need it more than I do," she meowed. Instead she say down where she was and curled her tail neatly over her paws.

Flowerstorm nodded. "He really looks up to you. Maybe you're right. They are best friends, so maybe he can get something out of her," she meowed, drawing her paw over her ear again.

Sandpaw trotted out of the apprentices den happily. Perhaps she would go see Gem today. She hated to leave the cat who cared for her, but maybe a visit would cheer her up. She padded towards the camp entrance, her tail held high.

Jack's face twisted in consternation. "You know what I did to the last cat who asked about her?" he muttered, mostly to himself.

Pricklenose smiled. "Let's see if I can find him." He trotted to the apprentices' den. "Puddlepaw?"

I could take you to my clan and we all can take good care of you and maybe you two could stay" Wolfheart mewed, her ears perked up hopefully they would come to camp with her. She worried for the kit, she studied the two felines carefully for any aggressive signs.

Shatterstar hesitated, waiting. When it seemed that Russetpelt wouldn't give in, she sighed. "Thank you," she murmured and swillowed the rest of the prey in a few bites.

Shatterstar shrugged. "A little, but usually I prefer to wait until the rest of the clan has eaten before I eat," she meowed. She sat down where she was and licked her paw before drawing it over her ear.

Dawnpelt threw out the last bit of rotten horsetail, and then she set some burnet down under a rock. She popped her head out of the den and padded into the clearing. Maybe I should go eat. She thought, and then padded to the fresh kill pile. Dawnpelt picked out a mouse and started chewing.
